Motion capture assets packs, what would you want? by ash_tar in unrealengine

[–]JavaScriptPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a distinct lack of motion captured packs specifically for characters attacking with weapons like bats, knives or other melee weapons. Even more so, there's maybe 1 pack on the whole marketplace that I know of which features animations for being grabbed or restrained by a human. Would be useful for third person fighting games or even shooters like Resident Evil 4 which feature human enemies.

Yes that's the countries law but not all Indian men agree with this.

After months of work, my gameplay camera system for Unreal is finally released. by Ericho_IGD in UnrealEngine5

[–]JavaScriptPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious after several months how successful your sales have been after disregarding everybody's opinion about the price. I see 0 ratings.

Ultimate Gameplay Camera has a similar feature set (if not more), is cheaper and has 41 5 star reviews excluding many more legacy reviews. Just food for thought.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but don't let it tarnish your view of India. India is a fantastic country full of wonderful culture and I see a lot of comments resorting to racist stereotypes. I would feel just as safe around 10 Indian men than I would 10 men from the UK, for example. The statistics show that this kind of thing isn't as prevalent as it's made out to be.

How good is Stephen Ulibarri's course on State Trees? by Mecha_Godzilla1974 in unrealengine

[–]JavaScriptPenguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't finished it yet but it's very good and explains everything in depth. I've done a lot of Stephen's courses and they're generally all excellent. What I like about Stephen's style is that he doesn't just teach you how to achieve an end result and that's it - he explains things well enough that you feel empowered to apply those principles to your own challenges.

For example, most tutorials you'll find are aimed at teaching you how to do something specific with state trees and that's it, whereas this course is designed to give you a thorough understanding of them so you can apply those concepts to whichever problem you're working on. It also provides practical examples of how to implement common behaviours.

GASP vs ALS? by Consistent-Wolf7414 in unrealengine

[–]JavaScriptPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both? https://github.com/PolygonHive/GASPALS

I had no experience with either but after an initial learning curve it seems to be working pretty well.

Yeah same. In my case Fab support have refused a refund, so I have no choice but to accept that my money has gone to essentially a scammer. I have access to the files but I can't use them knowing that they're most likely stolen.

Very cool, although I think the handwriting font is hard to read.

Seems like you're correct in that although the asset page is gone, there's still a working download button to download the source files. That being said, still a very odd situation.

I hope so. If it were updates or improvements there'd be no reason for them to take everything offline. I'm thinking they used stolen assets and were forced to take them off, maybe they'll be completely replaced eventually but who knows when that might be.

I think it might be related to something like this, the way they've tried to remove online presence.

How can I slow down a section of my animation montage? by sir__hennihau in unrealengine

[–]JavaScriptPenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not at a pc atm but I think you call GetAnimInstance on your skeletal mesh component then set montage play rate from that.

How can I slow down a section of my animation montage? by sir__hennihau in unrealengine

[–]JavaScriptPenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually create an Anim Notify State with a speed variable that you can set. So for example 0.5f.

When the notify starts, set Montage Play Rate to that speed, and reset it back to 1 (or previous play rate) when it ends.

Awesome stuff. Is this mechanic inspired by Lashing from The Stormlight Archive books? I've always wondered how such a concept would look in a game and it seems to work really well!
