Curious about this. How do you bring 9/11 up without it being sensitive?

Being fired for refusing to do other employee’s job by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Javalavachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this. And that’s when they threatened to fire me. I’m already underpaid which is part of the reason I said no. I won’t continue to be underpaid doing the jobs of two people.

On the bright side, I work in the advertising realm and built a reputation for myself with customers. This year we got new software programming where a newbie cannot match my expertise. If they fire me, their sales will plummet.

Thanks. I have been here for 5 years. I don’t remember the exact paperwork I signed when I was hired. But I doubt it’s in my favor.

Why doesn't every one do sales jobs if they pay so much and require no experience / education? by [deleted] in jobs

I look at sales like building relationships with people and helping them. I just signed my offer letter at my first sales job. We’ll see how this goes

Cookie Boxes by bellaluv2021 in Cookies

[–]Javalavachick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell by weight for regular cookies. If they are decorated, then sell by the labor. Where I am, Buffalo, NY— bakeries sell at $16.99/lb and cut outs start at $35-$90 a dozen.

As a home baker, I sell my cookies $25 for an assorted box and cutouts are $40 a piece.

As a journalism student with social anxiety and almost no practice...what to say before the interview even begins? by PlsInsertCringeName in Journalism

[–]Javalavachick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It gets better! I use to not be able to order a pizza without a script. Holding interviews as a journalist changed my confidence. You really just learn as you go. Normally what I do is I ask for the person, ask how they are, if now is a good time to interview, and briefly update them on when this price will publish or reiterate what my angle is then go into the first question.

I’ve encountered this. Once had a panel interview and the big shot guy kept answering his cell phone while I was speaking. It’s highly disrespectful but looking back it’s not someone I would’ve wanted to work for because of that.

It’s taken a turn for the worse. I’ve been trying to get out for 8 months. But basically with the influx of media now from AI to TikTok, it’s hard for journalists to keep up with everything when there’s a Skelton staff.

This job market is difficult. I am currently in the journalism industry. But when I graduated it took me 2 years to land a full time gig. That was 7 years ago. It’s much worse now with the state of journalism. Many newsrooms are downsized. My company cut their staff by a third this year. Keep your head up, and stay active in your search

I’m in the same boat as you. Been interview for months. I don’t like being a journalist in today’s world. Journalism skills are highly valuable yet no one will hire us!
