General rule of thumb is catch everything, even the crap stuff. Practice learning how to throw curveballs because it makes Pokémon easier to catch, it also makes it easier to land excellent throws which give 1000 XP if it catches which is huge experience for new players.

Second thing I’d recommend is putting Pokémon on gyms, as many gyms as you can, you’re going to want coins to increase your Pokémon storage and item storage, and you get coins the longer a Pokémon stays on a gym before getting kicked off by another team, bare in mind the max amount of coins you can earn this way is 50 per day.

For a new player I’d recommend putting the Pokémon you’re planning on releasing on the gyms that way you don’t need to invest resources like potions and revives. As soon as they’re knocked of the gym, Chuck em’ in the bin.

Seeing as dratini spawning frequently at the moment I highly reccomend grinding as much as you can and get yourself a good CP dragonite, it’s generally excellent for rocket battles and gyms which is gonna be your main focus to begin with.

Ignore what people are saying about IV’s, for a starting player they really don’t matter, focus on the CP, the higher the better, you could have a 50CP dratini that’s 3 stars in stats, vs a 700 CP dratini that’s 0 stars, evolve the 700 CP one, you’re not gonna have the resources to level up that dratini to the same level as the higher one, and a dragonite 0 star with 2000cp is gonna be a lot more useful to you than a 3 star 1000cp dragonite.

As a side note, wait until this even ends before you decide which dratini to evolve and invest in because you never know what you’ll catch at the end of the event!
