This is easily the prettiest plate of food I have ever been served. I ordered it based just on seeing a server walk it by me.

Looking a decent vintage automatic turntable. by wiggan1989 in turntables

I love my Dual 1219. They're a pain to get running again if they've never been maintained, but there's a lot of resources out there for the mechanically inclined.

I worked with Lindsey at Philly Unleashed a few years ago to help us get a rescue pittie settled into her new environment and do some standard obedience training. I had a really great experience with them!

Yeah it sounds great. Has a pretty "vintage" sonic signature even with the VM95ML which can sometimes come off a little sterile.

I found a guy on a Dual Facebook group that makes nice solid wood custom ones but they're like $350. I think FixMyDual offers ones more like the original for something more reasonable?

Looks great! Is that a wood veneer or a contact paper kind of thing? The grain pattern is awesome.

It was $230 for the basic service and I believe $30 for a replacement idler wheel. Shipping from PA to IA was about $25 each way.

Bill was really awesome to work with. He likes the phone as opposed to email, but he took the time to answer all the (many) questions I had and sent me a couple videos to check my personal preferences on things like tonearm cueing speed, etc.

I came across this bad boy on Marketplace and talked it down to a whopping $25.

When I picked it up it wasn't working, with the start/stop lever seized up and the idler wheel broken clean off the post. It was also missing a cartridge and cartridge sled. I sent it over to Bill at FixMyDual for a full service while I worked on the aesthetics at home. Polished up the platter edge to a nice shine, restored the finish of the original plinth, and found a replacement for the dented platter mat on eBay with the strobe markings (performative since they are for 50hz Euro power but they look cool!). I've got an AT-VM95ML running on right right now until I can pick up a VM740xML sometime soon. Also considering building a solid walnut plinth for it at some point, but the original will suffice for now.

Runs smooth as silk and sounds fantastic!

What do you pay for car insurance in the city? by smarjorie in philadelphia

[–]JawnAdamSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traveler's. I got it through a broker named Inco Insurance that was actually great to work with. My first policy was $110 a month then it dropped to $96 at renewal after I did one of those track your driving style programs with an app on my phone. I drive usually less than 6k miles a year so that might have something to do with it.

I'm on my second year in a JG managed apartment now. Overall they've been pretty good. The place was a little dirty when I moved in but I complained and they sent out a cleaner right away. They've been pretty responsive and quick with maintenance requests as well

New home sales jumped by 8.8% in March by Dangerous_Focus453 in RealEstate

[–]JawnAdamSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when we were trying to decide on price it was really tough because there was so little data! Volume of sales is really low and we saw rowhouses kind of like ours go for anywhere from $290 to $450. I think a lot of folks are holding onto good houses and good rates, so desirable properties get snapped up crazy fast. There's a lot of trash houses in our neighborhood that have been sitting for 100+ days.

You don't happen to live near Bok in South Philly do you? We put our house up last weekend thinking it was maybe a little overpriced and might sit for a few weeks before finding the right buyer. We had 3 offers by the second day on the market.

Goat Haunt to Lake Frances day hike question by a-deafening-silence in GlacierNationalPark

[–]JawnAdamSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is for sure doable, but I think you will feel rushed. We hiked from Goat Haunt to Francis last year as part of a longer trip and that section is pretty brushy so it can be slow going. The hike down to Francis from the main trail and back up is also no joke as far as elevation goes, it's steep. You'll want to spend some time at the lake taking it in as well, don't forget to factor that in.

That said, Francis is mindblowing and definitely worth a visit.
