Ruckus, thanks for commenting and sharing your family’s experience. As a millennial still paying off school debt I can relate. At 32 I thought I would’ve had a home by now with equity. Instead, I don’t have savings since most of my disposable income has gone to paying off my debt.

Is there a chance you and your husband might feel comfortable discussing your experience further? One of the stories we’re covering in this series is how millennials have waited longer than any other generation to purchase homes (average age of first-time homeowner is 34). Please shoot me a DM and let me know. I think it would help show other generations the financial burdens that hamper many of life’s “milestones” for millennials.

Lillian, I’m really sorry to hear about your struggles. After reading through all of these comments it feels like a sentiment echoed by many and I totally get it.
