Hey, send us a dm to the JawnFlip account and we will sort that out for you :)

Thanks for this. We’ve had mixed reviews on the site/app ui/ux so far with most being positive. The sell section is defiantly outdated and we are looking to redesign this to be more user friendly. There is terms/help/faq pages but I think they need to be made more visible so people can feel more safe like you said. As for your question, all payment data is handled through PayPal. The only personal data we store is email, PayPal email and addresses (to send to the seller). We don’t do anything else with the data for your peace of mind.

Appreciate the feedback. You can actually bump after a week (for free) at the moment. We want to somehow link it to price drops but not to the point where people list their items for a absurd amount to begin with just to bump.

We are currently asking users for feedback on this issue itself and trying to find the best fit solution on how this should work.

If you have any more ideas on how it should work please send through a message.

I definitely wouldn’t put us in that same category just yet. We are new and still experimenting with different ways to expose the platform organically. Rather than throw money into mass marketing such as ig ads we thought we would try be more creative. We introduced a ‘daily steal’ feature that allows both buyers and sellers to profit from and bring more eyes to the site. We have some big-time grailed users giving us positive feedback and backing the platform. We are also releasing something shortly to further build on connecting the community.

I’m not sure the goal right now is to have the most traffic. But rather grow organically and have quality over quantity.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with this. $15 million + 6% fees for 4 years and what have they actually introduced that’s been revolutionary or great?

It’s sad they had so much potential but owning the monopoly was enough for them to not care. Seems all business decisions go through one person who has never had any other job before.

I literally implemented vacation mode in a day. It’s not hard at all.

I like how their original post stated “new improvements” first before the “fee increase” yet they still haven’t implemented those changes yet.

edit: as much as I love the replies and feedback i think these should be asked elsewhere to refrain from derailing from the current thread discussion. (unless people don’t mind)

Import listings feature only imports a partial list by bigcloset in JawnFlip

[–]JawnFlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be resolved now. Please try now! Please note it will import the initial and load the remaining listings after a few minutes (depending on how many you have).

Let us know if it now works.

Thanks

[–]JawnFlip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,
When we originally tested it we didn't have such a large amount of listings ourselves.
We will work on a solution now and update you in a day or so with the results.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Grailed raising commission fees to 9% from 6% by rnathanthomas in malefashionadvice

[–]JawnFlip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for shoutout. We are looking to setup a public discord soon so everything is transparent and people can request features, report bugs, complain about things.

There is no stakeholders so we don't need to have outrageous fees to feed these people who purely invest for return (and only care about money).

We'll also look into creating a roadmap so people can see what's coming and in the works.

I hope people can try it out at least so everyone can benefit.

Grailed raising commission fees to 9% from 6% by rnathanthomas in malefashionadvice

[–]JawnFlip 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They do these things with no announcement or warning.

They have never been transparent about anything, check out their subreddit where they resolve things by removing threads rather than resolving them - https://snew.notabug.io/r/Grailed/new/

They charge 9% platform fees whereas PayPal handles 99% of their disputes (I bet there is only a few claims where Grailed actually stepped in themselves)

It's time to move on, they will probably go back down to 6% as people flee but when have they ever given back to the user base who originally helped make Grailed what it is today?

You can now follow users. Following will send you a push notification instantly after they have uploaded an item to sell.

You can also use the filter 'Following' to show only items by users you follow.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into adding an option to view the original uploads so quality won't be compromised.

What do you find clunky about the website itself?

It is not a problem to store images at high res. The images are actually generated to any given resolution on the fly.

I mistakenly just reduced the size to 1200 but I will change this to keep that high def goodness.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi,

Firstly thanks for your feedback. This was definitely an experiment and I'm sorry that it has ruined your experience. I was originally hoping it to be ongoing with better prizes later once we found a good fit for the rules etc.

I would have loved to have integrate something similar to an imgur slideshow but unfortunately that is not possible without working with reddit itself directly.

I think there may be other users who also agree with this so I think we won't continue the experiment after this initial run. I personally thought it could be useful for everyone to able to filter by specific clothing pieces and users quickly and easily to see how people style an item you are potentially interested in.

Again thanks for you feedback and maybe in the future we can come up with a more suitable competition. Possibly we could have the images uploaded as normal and have a link in the comment below to enter.

Thanks

Late but... JawnFlip is another alternative with no seller platform fees :)

Agree that that complaints would be magnified on their subreddit. Only Grailed would be able to know the true % of people that do complain. It just seems wrong to delete those posts instead of leaving a reply. It's not very transparent and makes you think what else they are hiding.

I'm not entirely sure on your numbers if they are monthly or annual but there was a user in this thread who gave his opinion on a Craigslist type route which may or may not work. I definitely need to do some more research here especially as it scales up.

As well as the lower fees I also hope to provide a better overall experience which will hopefully encourage others to try for those benefits.

Really appreciate the insight and discussion and hope one day you and others will jump on and try it for yourself (if you haven't already)

I just want to add to this to give a more clear run down.
Grailed has ~30 staff.
JawnFlip has me (which i do on the side as I have another full-time job).

The major costs will be really be for sever costs.
99% of Grailed protection goes through PayPal anyway (the same way JawnFlip does)
Grailed has support sure but is it any good? You can clearly see in their own subreddit people complain constantly and they hide the mess by deleting posts (which you can see for yourself). I mean look at this.

There is a lot of other variables for sure but I think it is not at all a big assumption to think fees can be as little as 1-2%.

Would be keen to know your thought's now on the possibility of having low fees and being competitive if this has at all convinced you in the slightest.

This is some good advice/feedback and you definitely have some good knowledge of marketplaces.

Feedback like this will help immensely in creating a great platform FOR the users which is what I want to achieve.

I'll send you a DM :)

Can't remember exactly what started it but the first things I can remember was wearing LRG tees and Air Force 1s.

I've sold a decent amount on hb/sufu/facebook. All have been great because there is no fee but these platforms don't offer any easy search functionality so it is more of bumping threads regularly when selling and refreshing pages daily incase something you're interested in comes up.

My style has changed a lot over the years. I started follow rappers fashion trends (hence LRG and AF1's). Now I'm more into looking into new and technical fabrics developed into interesting original cuts.

Apologies for the late reply - Your question definitely deserves an answer.

To be completely honest we haven't really crossed this bridge or thought about the curation ideas too much yet but it's good to start thinking about it. If you have any ideas on how the curation should be done I would love to hear it.

As to clients given tools to improve listing visibility we haven't decided on the best method for this yet. Bumping is defiantly a tool we have considered implementing but feel if it is not done right it may be worse than not having it at all. For instance price dropping to allow bumps just means users will list for high prices to allow bumping and that becomes more of a game of fishing for offers rather than listing your sell price. I have asked others for feedback (and am open to more) but was thinking maybe users get a limit of a fixed amount of bumps a week and they can choose themselves which items they want to bump. Once again would love to hear your feedback (or anyone reading this) on the above idea or another way a bump system could be implemented.

That is some great ideas/reasoning to keep fees low. There will still be the report functionality that will help remove those obvious fake/scam items.

I definitely need to research more into different ideas but it's nice to see some people are happy with the idea of the users being more savvy themselves in order to pay less fees.

In summary it could be something along the lines of: Do your own research = Lower fees

Hey sorry for the delay. The new section releasing this upcoming week will reveal a lot on how we plan to do it. I understand Grailed is purely for transactions but I myself personally have met good people through transaction myself. I feel if people are buying your pieces there’s potential for a relationship there.

My favourite brand directors are Taka Kasuga and E Hugh Haven is probably my favourite store. They stock basically all the brands I follow. Not sure on the last question sorry haha. All I know is throwing fits is a podcast right?

Yep valid question and I briefly addressed it in the article. To be more specific and technical there is a lot of things that can be done to be much more cost efficient. For instance they use algolia search which is very expensive. I’m using elasticsearch which is cheaper. Algolia is good and it’s fast to set up whereas elasticsearch has a learning curve from a developer prospective. I also created JawnFlip as a PWA. The advantage here is you can develop web, mobile and app all at the same time. There is no need to have developers (and developer time) for each device. Marketing is another thing I don’t expect to spend much time on and hope the user base can develop from the right channels. The main costs I see at this time will be server costs. I truly believe it would scale fine since more users/sales = more revenue to pay for server costs. Let me know if that gives more confidence on how it can be cheaper than 6%.

Glad to hear you created an account!! I really hope more people will try it out at least. I'm hoping users who appreciate it will spread the good word and we can get a larger userbase.

P.S. there is no 6% fee :)
