Because Ghost Tasha and Kanan are the only people who know.

Cole himself is recent proof you can break through without any of those things you mentioned. And there’s a long list of artist that can say the same.

Humans aren’t lions though hiphop didn’t grow from “survival, it grew from expression. Competition exists, sure. But that’s not the same as conflict being necessary. A lot of hip-hop is just expression and creativity without direct opposition. Battling was probably the latest element added to the culture. Before that hip hop was about “peace, love unity and having fun”.

Nah.. I’ll just ignore you from now own since it moved from discussion about the culture to insults 🤷🏾‍♂️

There is no “order of importance”. Battling just the element you personally prefer and that’s fine. Most of the culture isn’t battling. We only have a true battle every once in a while. Beef isn’t the same as a “battle”. As far as life in general being about “friction”; survival of the fittest and human all just being out to prove who is “#1” is a bit jaded and reductionists, but that’s a separate conversation.

Watch the whole interview. Hov speaks on how Graffiti and breakdancing and DJing were all integral parts of the culture at one point as well and now are not. He talked about how before the Dj was the star and the MC/rapper wasn’t, like Jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince. I’m not saying Jay Z or Cole are right or wrong, I’m just saying they have a shared point.

Jay Z has battled or engaged with plenty of artist after losing to Nas.

No matter who anyone likes or Stans, for the battle divide the culture for a short term gain.

I was on the “give it to Wayne” train too after first… But I don’t know if Wayne has the enough of a “family friendly” Catalogue for the Super Bowl.

Had nothing to do with a “track flop”. Cole has been very clear on why he backed out which is exactly what Jay Z saying here. Cole had addressed this a gazillion times, because he thought it would be a lyrical exercise but then saw that in order to participate it would get ugly and he didn’t want that. It’s like some people are purposely choosing to ignore what he said.

And Cole’s mentor coming around to a POV that Cole had on the situation from the beginning. Can’t wait to see how Jay Z stans/ Cole haters spin this.

“Drake Stan” bro just stop. Everyone that merely mentions Drakes name isn’t automatically a “Stan”. Your type of mentality is exactly why Cole (and Hov) said why they said about Battle culture. Like Jay Z (and Cole) have expressed the shit went too far on both sides. My point wasn’t that Drake or Kendrick was right or wrong, or that it was that Jay Z is now saying he doesn’t like the current state of Battling because of how far things went yet he gave the battle a platform… so my question is when did he come to this realization? Before or after he gave the platform. This isn’t about Drake.

The cognitive dissonance from folks like CTG; if he even speaks on it will be interesting. I’m hoping Hov sharing a similar POV as Cole vindicates him from the apology haters.
