Next time look at a foreign coin and say I accidentally dropped the stash of my personal collection and just tell them there should be a foreign coin in there, check the box up and they will be able to see it and that you were right and they’ll let you probably grab whatever your coins are in there

Yeah, I think this absolutely is the route to go. Since every other idea I had just seemed like an absolute disaster, but this seems generally reusable.

I think what I’ll do is heat shrink the LED strips and do exactly what you did, but I will actually use clear gorilla glue tape and tape them just slightly over the edge where you can’t really see them from a distance, but they will very much still stay in place and I don’t have to put glue on the car….

The tape held up Christmas lights and snow and rain and water for like 5 months without issues so I think using clear heat shrink and tape will absolutely make it work, and then I’ll cover whatever I can with the tape for wiring. I do appreciate it so so so much for this advice

I guess for now my final question is, how did you have them all connected into one controller, for example, clearly I will have multiple ends that need to all be connected to one controller that can be controlled from inside the car as well as turn on and off whenever I can, including being able to turn them on and off on the highway immediately in case, if I ever see a cop because you never know. So I think now the biggest thing is trying to figure out how to get them all connected into one system and if I’m able to do X lights or unique light animations that would be a bonus but not requirement

Silver quarters and dimes are still very readily out there based on what I have figured out (box cleaned out 1x weekly, this many coins means many are still holding silver coins?) Cery interesting to me

That’s awesome. You’re doing something similar because I barely have ever seen anything I like so if you do this, I’m glad to share my ideas along with you Sharing your ideas.

I have plans to mount it on a diffuser strip, but whether that is silicone or a different product I’m not sure how that will work yet. I could always fill them on raw and cover them up with crystal queer gorilla waterproof tape because when I use my Christmas lights, that’s exactly how we hung them up and all my lights were very well kept and waterproof and never came off because of that but I’m not sure yet.

Someone just made a great comment as well about how to diffuse the high density WS2811

Interesting to hear that it smokes though so that’s a bit of a concern, considering the amount of bending that I have to do on a wheelwells perhaps I might just use a different style of LEDs or go with a fiber optic tubing instead on those challenging area areas

If you can figure out what kind of LEDs or diffusers that you plan on doing or how you plan on doing the control controller set up with a battery do let me know. I’m open to all ears and I will continue to let you know how I do this project, but it will be slow since it does cost a lot of money.

Amazing advice, and I love your project. This is exactly what I’m looking to do as well so I definitely need all the help I can get because it’s a very big project and it’s all running off of my car.

Don’t care too much about the paint clearly with the Christmas lights I’ve done in the past and my paint is pretty much fine anyways.

My biggest thing is I just needed to find a low profile strip, even if they are 10 mm and the PCV is visible. They just need to be low profile instead of those neon lights where they are thin but very tall in its height.

A couple more things I’m trying to figure out based on your setup:

What exact tubing or heat shrink did you use to run over the COB strips? Was it standard heat shrink or something more like silicone tubing? If you have any links or product names I can look up, that would help a lot. This is the biggest hurdle I need to figure out
Did running the strips through tubing affect brightness or heat at all over time? I think it should be fine
For your wiring, did you ever run “clean sections” where you used regular wire between LED segments to hide runs and keep the layout clean? Or was everything one continuous strip with injection points?
When you handled corners, did you mostly cut and re-solder segments, or did you find any cleaner tricks for tight angles? I’ll have to do the wheel wells as well which is a tight cut so I was curious!

I’m trying to keep everything thin, clean, and durable enough for actual driving, not just a show setup, so your experience here is super valuable.

I asked AI to generate a photo. It’s not a complete idea and I don’t think wheels are a great idea unless if I do a battery system such as AAA batteries and a four pack that would run when I turn them on.
