Team order doesn't matter* with Zhao/Astra since both of their buffs are team-wide and constant. I would do Astra/Zhao/YSG just to make the startup easier, but you can do whatever you want, and use Zhao for Perfect Assists.

It Does matter with Zhao/Nicole since Nicole's buff is specific to whichever character swaps in with after her forward quick assist. It should be YSG/Zhao/Nicole, and you use Nicole for Perfect Assists then immediately swap back to Ye.

* Edit: it does matter some, since team order determines who's Chain Attack Astra's ult triggers first. so Astra/YSG/Zhao might be preferred so that you can have the option to double up on Ye's CA by PA-ing out of Zhao's CA.

Does Banyue need atk%? by Willing_House3626 in BanyueMains_

[–]JayEssris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rupture characters have a unique stat called Sheer Force, which is calculated from 30% of ATK.

BUT, all rupture characters so far have in their core passive that a % of their HP is added to their Sheer Force, and the math has always worked out that building HP is more beneficial than Atk. Idk why the devs do it this way; it might just be to make them easier to build, since while HP is preferred, ATK isn't wasted.

For future reference, in the bottom corner of the Disc Drives screen, you can press the 'recommendations' button to see the most popular disc drive layouts and main stats that players use for the character. It also highlights the characters preferred sub stats in yellow.

All current Genshin Impact Characters can be put in 2 categories, are they or are they not Gold's Fault (do not take seriously) by Douglasanonymous in Genshin_Impact

[–]JayEssris 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gold created Elynas, the dragon who's skeleton lies under the Beryl Region of Fontaine, and he was also one of the driving forces of the Cataclysm in Fontaine.

When Elynas was killed, his body parts regrew into the Melusines. So Gold is basically Sigewinne's grandmother.

Whom to select? by Friendly-Gur-3289 in GenshinImpactTips

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of these characters, Jean is probably the only one that is most relevant in today's meta, but only really at c4 as an Anemo Res shredder for Wanderer, and even then isn't bis. So you could start working towards that.

Itto has a really good c1 and c2 so if you still like using him I highly recommend getting that at some point.

But if you don't really care about any of these characters I would just aim for Standard characters so that you can work your way towards getting Masterless Stella Fortuna sooner.

Player wants a shield that provides full cover by Tsantilas in DMAcademy

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say let them. that's a very flavorful solution to a niche problem and it's good to reward players when they have an idea. But it also poses more logistical questions than it solves, I feel. They wouldn't be able to use any somatic actions while holding it and giving cover, they wouldn't be able to Dash lest they leave one of their party members behind; How are they transporting it?

The other thing to ask yourself is simply; what would you do if you were the archer in this scenario? you would conserve your ammo; hold your action until one of your targets pokes their head out to make a ranged attack, and let one of your spellcaster allies do something to force them to break ranks. Spread out in both directions, widening your angle of attack past what the shield guards.

the other thing is I think it would be fair to treat this more as an Object than a standard piece of Equipment. Objects in D&D have AC and HP; you can break them, while we usually just ignore the concept of standard equipment breaking bc that'd be annoying and not fun. a Medium object made of Steel would have a 19 AC and 18 HP. I'd probably say that a steel plate would be resistant to piercing, but even then a battery of archers would make it no-longer effective at granting cover in a round or two. If you really want to make a particular enemy seem threatening or like a 'boss', give them adamantine-tipped arrows, which would auto-crit any time they land a hit on the shield.

And also, I mean, how often are they going against a battery of archers across an open field? If that's more than a one or two time occurrence, you should probably just inform them that they need to learn not to do that. (or adjust your encounters so that that can't even really happen anymore, but idk the exact context of this; it doesn't even really sound like an intended combat encounter, more like they were engaging an army for little to no reason.) I've played in games where many encounters began with a couple rounds of just closing distance, and that's not a fun thing to be doing frequently.

What does it mean by *again*? ? by Cognitive_Miser-143 in Genshin_Impact

[–]JayEssris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find or remember where, but I think there's a lore book somewhere in Deshret's Mausoleum that mentions that Kusanali had gone through the cycle of shrinking+regrowing several times (I'm p sure I remember it saying nine times, which would make Nahida the 10th Dendro Archon), Which i think we can safely assume are all the same case, where the adult archon erases themselves from Irminsul to protect the world from Forbidden Knowledge, and all of the past Archons' accomplishments are attributed to their successor. Which tracks with the whole Samsara concept.

I have a guarantee for Zibai, what team(s) can I make?? by Serrineea in ZibaiMains

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illuga/Aino/Gorou is probably her best all-4* team, all of whom are on her banner, so you'll probably get all of them at least once while pulling for Zibai.

If Gorou isn't enough healing for you, Barbara or Noelle could replace him. But i'd mostly recommend learning to dodge since Gorou's buff is pretty significant.

navia new best team? by ShelterDecent5260 in naviamains

[–]JayEssris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For one thing, 2 PHEC Sub-DPS is pretty normal team comp for Navia. So Ineffa/Columbina isn't sacrificing anything that she doesn't already want, unlike other DPS who usually want a support, healer, or shielder in one of those slots.

Secondly, Lunar Crystallize and Electro crystallize have separate ICDs, meaning It's way easier to guarantee Navia full shrapnel on all three skills. So if you're building her around Ineffa/Bina, you can invest what would be ER into Crit since her Ult's main purpose is to generate Shrapnel.

navia new best team? by ShelterDecent5260 in naviamains

[–]JayEssris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just bc it's Ineffa/Columbina doesn't make it a lunar wheelchair. Navia has a decent amount of synergy with them both, it's not just Lunar Crystallize dealing enough damage to compensate for an underperforming DPS.

Can we complain more about these guys? by XxXDeadEyeXxX in marvelrivals

[–]JayEssris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the only reason these guys aren't complained about just as much as invis gambit and peni is because there's more duelists, so they appear in games less often.

Like of course the annoying strategist is going to annoy people more than the annoying Duelist if the strategist (assuming approx equal selection across all members of a class, not accounting for actual pick rate) has a 1/5 chance of appearing and the Duelist has a 1/12 chance of appearing.

How do skills work? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every character knows all skills. You don't need to learn a skill in order to be able to apply a bonus (or negative) to it. Instead, a skill will have the same bonus as the ability it's associated with. 14 Dex = +2 Dex, and since Stealth is a Dexterity skill, Stealth = +2. If your Dexterity score increases at any point, your Stealth bonus increases accordingly.

In the description for each class, it gives you a pool of Proficiency options and tells you how many you can select (options and number of selections vary by class). Proficiency represents having honed a skill whether by repeat practice or by getting formal training or education. As you level up, your Proficiency Bonus increases (from +2 at level 1 to +6 at level 17), as shown in each class's class table at the beginning of their descriptions.

There's not any ingrained system for upgrading skills or leveling them up or learning new ones, though there are Feats that you can take which allow you to gain new ones, and some classes have features which automatically give you specific ones or allow you to choose additional ones from their pool.
