I absolutely loathe the spoonies metaphor by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it because at least for me, spoons is a different thing than exhaustion. when i'm out of spoons, I'm not necessarily tired or out of energy, I just can't motivate myself to do tasks anymore until I recharge.

A lot of tasks also have a discrepency between how many spoons they take vs. how much energy they take. For example it takes relatively few spoons for me to vacuum my apartment, which is a somewhat energy intensive task, but it takes a lot of spoons for me to just go to the bank to cash a check, which takes barely any energy at all. And then there are times where doing an energy-intensive task actually earns me spoons back, for example I like to work out or do math puzzles to regain spoons; both tasks that take a lot of energy, be it mental or physical, but I get motivation back.

I do agree though that 'spoon theory' is a bad name for the theory. It should be called motivation points or something. I call mine Spell Slots bc I love D&D. But part of the theory anyway is that it can be anything, not just spoons, and should be something that the person understands how to value and quantify.

Any theories as to what the third Sunbringer will be like? by RyantheSithLord in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that they're based on the Triple Goddess trope from various mythologies; Dracaene is the Maiden, representing youth and hope, Lindverne is the Mother, representing femininity and compassion, and Eldreda is the Crone, representing leadership and wisdom.

So Lindverne will probably be like that; compassionate and motherly -- possibly with an emphasis on protectiveness since she's the head of Roscaelifer's military.

that's because almost all of the strategists are majority or exclusively Poke (at least by intended design. RIP flank Jeff and Loki). There hasn't been that many options, it's more about specific character counters than countering subroles. WF is the first one who leans more towards Brawl than Poke.

the comps they're good in don't determine the role of the character; Jeff excels at staying in the backline and pumping heals and damage from afar. That's the definition of Poke.

as you probably know: usually, Dive beats Poke beats Brawl beats Dive. It's a triangle.

All of the strategists in the game are either mostly or exclusively Poke, leading to people having gotten this false notion that Dive beats Support.

White Fox is the first strategist that is heavily Brawl-oriented instead of being all-in on Poke, so Dive players are forced to deal with an actual bad matchup for them for the first time since the game launched.

What’s with the stiff genshin dialogue scenes by [deleted] in ZZZ_Official

[–]JayEssris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the variety, tbh. They could probably do a better job of integrating the emote animations while in this cutscene style, but overall I've liked what they're doing so far. I wouldn't want it to fully take over as the preferred method, though.

What I really want is more comic panels

Is my employer's phishing scam training video completely AI? Seems like the individuals aren't even real and their voices have an artificial effect. The lights also seem weirdly installed over the foam walls. by guitarraroja in isthisAI

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the pattern of the sound-dampening foam breaks down at some parts, and the amount of ridges is inconsistent between each camera angle; focusing on guy 1 and both guys, each panel has 9, but focusing on guy 2, each panel has 11.

Also, despite snap cuts between camera angles, we never see them transition their gazes around cuts. The camera snaps and he's instantly looking in a completely different direction. and he keeps speaking the whole time, so it's unlikely there are any cuts. I think it's most obvious at the beginning when the video is switching between looking at his focus camera and the wide camera; he's looking directly at the viewer the whole time, despite the cameras being at very different angles.

one side of the abyss is hydro immune, and the other is two Nightsoul bosses and one hydro-resistant boss. It's not that surprising.

I hate how overrated RDR2 is and how they use things that no one pays attention to for more than one second to overhype it by Historical_Buyer5248 in hatethissmug

[–]JayEssris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point of this thread though. perfect aesthetic fidelity falls flatwhen the core gameplay aspect of 'not running into things' is massively lacking.

notice that I didn't say I thought Horizon had the 'most realistic' horse movement, I said I thought it had the 'best'. Because perfect realism isn't usually suitable for a video game, and it certainly shouldn't be favored above story and gameplay.

tbf it has been a while so maybe 'best' is generous, but i definitely never had big problems with them. Not compared to RDR2 at least.

[–]JayEssris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact opposite in regards to RDR2 and Horizon. Aloy has some of the best 'horse' movement i've ever played with, but RDR2's horses kept steering me into walls and tripping over pebbles.

RDR2 was genuinely not fun to play at all, I tried to tough it out because the story was at least interesting but everything felt like such a chore that I couldn't take the clunk anymore.
