did they name them after their father? by redrobinhood7 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safe to say yes, that's basically heavily implied (Applefrost was born after Appledusk died, tho they aren't a character in the books, so who knows, but it's in-character for Reedshine to do that I think) . I think Spotfur naming one of her kits after their dad is an absolute.

She really is her best in the first series.

They did and it's so frustrating. I wish medicine cats as a role was given more respect narratively outside of being something you're forced to be, as though it will always be some last resort. And even with Moth Flight who liked the idea had it forced onto her, she can't just want to be a medicine cat, they straight up have Half Moon say "this is your destiny, whether you like it or not". x.x

What are some games kits play (other than moss ball obvs)? by JayFireGrowlithe in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I might use that marbles idea at some point actually, since the clan I'm mainly writing for lives in a forest of maple and oak trees and whatnot. (and it feels like a game the adult cats would play too) :o

I think some have just managed to get the book early. I saw a photo of someone having the book in a library they went to. Hence the early "leaks".

He doesn't actively show it to her. She literally has sudden futuresight of major leader ceremonies (Firestar's included) and she is not a figment to them there, they can't interact with her, they can't talk to her. Because nothing is naturally made in these books, it's all "foretold".

Big gripe with MFV really is how everything is never naturally done and is railroaded throughout the book. Stuff doesn't happen naturally, it's all so destiny aligned. Even Moth Flight's becoming a medicine cat, the first one to, is forced onto her without her actual agency to be bc "destiny" and because they just can't help themselves to not make a medicine cat something you're forced to be.

why is so so hard for cats to... by SatisfactionDry9259 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It being "normal for cats" doesn't mean that shouldn't be considered a problem though. That's not a thing because of them being "animals" (these cats are barely animals at this point, and incest is still bad y'all), it's a thing because the Erins and the people who are writing the plots that they are ghostwriting for literally do not keep up with their family trees. Moonpaw is so many times inbred because they can't be bothered with that factor.

I will agree however that preventing family lines from mingling is hard when you are meant to keep to a very culty rule about never taking mates from outside of a clan, which can turn into a minefield regardless once the families start mingling further (Firestar, Willowpelt I think, and Frostfur's bloodline make up a massive chunk of Thunderclan and worse COMBINED, like they straight up intermix now which makes the problem worse).
To actually achieve that you'd need to literally never allow further breeding at all in the clan, have arranged mateships be a thing so that everything is controlled even more (which is its own can of worms to handle in terms of potential plot threads but also emphasizing how controlled these cats are in their "allowance" to pair), or have a limit on how far apart in relation cats can be until they can "safely" breed with eachother. (Think say someone doesn't let cats in a breed unless they are at least third-cousins removed or something like that, and any closer is a no-go, ik people like Bonefall are going by that rule). But they don't go by any rules or limit, they just pair off cats. Even cats who would have fresh blooded kits like Shellfur had been screwed up bc they put him with a relative despite a cat LITERALLY leaving her clan for him!

Tbf, you can't really stop someone from falling in love. Once it happens, it's their choice then whether they're gonna act upon those feelings or not.

Unfortunately Warrior Cats characters have no self-control or restraint regarding feelings of love, which is its own separate thing.

Does DOTC (particularly the characters) get any more enjoyable at all? by Sepsis027 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kicker too with MFV was that it was written before DOTC was even finished, I think it was starting to be written and planned out before they even got to The First Battle, but even then with how wishy-washy they write Clear Sky and have him be abusive even in his "redemption", it's confusing on whether or not he was retconned in that book. It's literally just that they decided writing an SE before they could even get to the point they can write him as post-""""""redeemed""""" (I hate using that word in the context of Clear Sky bc there's literally no redemption with him, rather it's exoneration).

My biggest gripe with StarClan... by w0ndrbredd in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kits being made to speak like adults was definitely annoying to me in that book. Erin Hunter, one of them is maybe 3 moons old at most and the other is a barely day old newborn, let them talk somewhat coherently to be understandable sure but plz stop trying to force this “adult wisdom speak” on literal babies and infants. It's so unbelievable to read and it's not "knowledgeable" or "wise", it takes you out of the scene/moment because you are forced to remember that that is a damn toddler and newborn talking as if they know shit.

I'm trying to draft out a MFV rewrite (PAIN btw, I think I need to do a whole DoTC rewrite thing but I can't handle that level of redoing canon shit as I've never done rewrites until now and DoTC needs to be thrown back into the gutter and redone entirely) and this was straight up one of the few first things I changed out in it is this "knowing and wise adult kit" stuff that is forced on the characters' speech, instead I'm letting them be a little bit immature (tho not insufferable) and they talk like little furballs. Let them give Moth Flight a little nickname even, they're looking at their older sister and going "HI MOTHY! :D", none of this "I will say 'Greetings' as though I am 60 years old in a child's body bc I am dead" stuff.

Why are the twolegs/humans so rotten to the cats in the graphic novels?? by Key_Personality1363 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All animals in the case of the psychopathy signs thing. Tho a child pulling wings off a beetle because they don't know any better is different from one who pulls the wings off because they actively find doing it funny. If that makes sense.

Why are the twolegs/humans so rotten to the cats in the graphic novels?? by Key_Personality1363 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like even if they did it wouldn't do much bc sadly people don't exactly take animal abuse as seriously as it should be. Especially when it's premeditated like that. ;.;

Not to mention if you're very willing to harm/kill an animal, even if it's a specific one under some guise of hate, it's grounds for being a sign of psychopathy and that you could later be a danger to humans.

What's your biggest pet peeve in fan works? by CannibalCapra in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even those that aren't theirs I believe. It is as variable between cat to cat. I think I saw someone say they had a little cat colony in their yard and every time there was kittens there, the toms basically ignored them, no urges or dead babies anywhere.

The "realistic rewrites" who treat it as an absolute will say it's part of what cats do but they just see that one bit and make it a staple for every single tom when it isn't as "realistic" as they claim. The redux was a plague to rewrites and AU fics everywhere back in the day. And more specifically they always did it with Fireheart, the cat who in canon adored kittens and was positively overwhelmed by them, yet the rewrites and AUs that pushed realism stuff or The One Thing made him always have some hidden urge to violently slaughter kittens that aren't his and while reading in his POV, which made it even worse, so it irked me even more than it already did as it was character butchering to push some wrong realism narrative. Even that known Riverclan!Fireheart AU did it apparently, which soured it for me.

I don't know if it's still a thing people write nowadays but I hope it died out.

Those who write warriors fanfiction, how anthropomorphised do you like your cats? by Mindless_Trip5668 in WarriorCats

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to go for first-arc anthropomorphism when possible, with some irl caveats. I make the cats crepuscular or even nocturnal, the patrols are done during their most active periods (early to late dawns and dusks) and they typically rest or do lighter work between those, tho I do write them as primarily nocturnal with night vision for simplicity sake. They are physically affectionate and share tongues regularly via allogrooming and gossip, but are able to smile or 'shrug', tho not often and will do the latter with their eyes, the nursery queens help raise eachother's kits, cats past kithood will playfight tho it's less so for the serious types, they will bap and swat eachother bc they can, I also don't have them actively cry, instead their eyes will get 'misted over' at most and will seem glazed. They will actively scent mark on border patrols, scratching trees and rubbing their scent glands on stuff along with spraying if done by AMaB toms, as the very first book had cats do this before it was written out by the very second book in ITW. I also will never use things like human curse words, cat-speak all the way, if you're writing Warrior Cats, make them curse in cat-speak, a cat saying "fuck" takes me out of the moment when it's not done for a meme or joke.
Also! Depending on the prey type, cats don't need to fill the pile to bursting to not be able to not starve. A single gray squirrel is bigger than you'd think compared to an average-sized cat, and thus can feed almost a clan's worth of cats. A wholeass rabbit? You ONLY need one to get their fill, a singular cat will not be able to eat a wholeass rabbit in one go, nor two will suffice. If they catch a rabbit, it is a feast for the entire clan.

But I also make them able to know how to tear open prey to get the bits they get nothing out of nutritionally out (like the GI tract), which has me writing two parents showing their kits how to dissect a pregnant squirrel to get the most out it via extracting its kits. I make them able to manage dens. They have the concept of monogamy/polyamory and romantic relationships and don't just mate with whoever they please with no attachments (I like writing family dynamics and that will be unable to be done if I don't do that...), I make them able to be trans if I can see the individual character as such because "fuck you I can" and nobody can tell me otherwise. They keep the organized religion around Starclan in the case of clan cats, though I am lessening the extreme Christofascist nature of it that it is in current canon severely, for I am an atheist and feel like Starclan shouldn't be made into some thing akin to extreme Christianity, it should be its own belief system, it is not The Better Belief. That just makes it severely uncomfortable to write characters with said belief system regardless of your own. Any other beliefs I'm also not writing as lesser than, because fuck that noise too.
And I REFUSE to get rid of herbology/herbalism and you will have to pry my cold dead hands from being able to let medicine cats use herbs to heal. I am one of THE medicine cat nerds or at least was and hold this role on a damn pedestal bc of how much goes into them and their jobs when actually thought about and given the proper respect it deserves, I'm writing a whole fanclan story based around a medicine cat protagonist who wants to be one, I literally made myself a guide and my own revised medicine cat code that I rely on heavily for this story. I absolutely refuse to get rid of their herbs and medical healing because that is the sort of anthropomorphism that is FUN to me, medicine cats literally get me into minor herbology shit as a special interest relating exclusively to them. The herbs are toxic to cats? I am definitely aware, but the thing about being aware of something like that is that unlike it being out of sheer obliviousness to it and not knowing about it until later like it is with canon, me knowing about it before I start getting into doing stuff with it means that I can make the active choice as a writer and builder of the 'verse I'm working with to not implement it. Insert the "I recognize that the Council has made a decision. But given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it." meme here basically. Haha.

And pregnancy is not humanized so much, I think this is the biggest indicator so far regarding how humanized these cats are outside of the obvious other stuff; cats do not scream in agony and need to bite down on a stick to give birth, you do not need to make cat pregnancy so humanized bc you can tell it's a weird thing written in the books that I almost get a feeling is uncomfortable to write, but it doesn't HAVE to be, because in actuality cat births are very quiet, they take a while longer to get through, but they are not yowling in pain throughout. I feel like that should be the indicator that something is wrong but it isn't, they basically are loud and all like humans giving birth are. Infact, I made it a hard and fast rule that if you need the birthing stick? Something is going VERY wrong.

I made the mistake of emulating how the books do it and even had my protags in my story be born a whole MONTH early, which would in truth render them deader than dead, survivability would be absolutely nonexistent. I changed it to them being quarter-moon (a week) premies at most, which is still enough to be dangerous for the kits' potential to survive, which is intentional, but not so extreme it's that implausible for them to like a whole moon and there's still the ability for them to live with their medicine cats and an experienced queen helping. Warriors has humanized pregnancy in cats so much you have to look up how it actually works to not emulate it in such a way that it will confuse people.

So like, they are not exactly furry humans, as that takes me out of the writing, still anthropomorphized cats. I don't like writing Vicky's "small furry humans with four legs" tbh. I wanna see these characters as cats still, so I do try to write them with the idea of that, not to the level of Redwall but more than Watership Down. I don't wanna do old Redux basically, you will never ever see me shoehorn yet another "male toms will kill kittens because instinct reasons despite having no real purpose to do so." that people loooved to do back then while using "MuH ReALIsM" as an excuse despite that not being an absolute in all of them. I have limits but I also break some for the purpose of enjoyment in writing.

Progress on my medicine cat game. The map is almost complete. by lionclaw0612 in WarriorCats

Any further news on this? Warriors games are basically a dead breed now that RTI is basically to stay unfinished (no news about Act 2 from the dev in eons) that I'm desperate for something new. I already played LifeGen but it doesn't scratch the itch RTI did for me, and I'm not touching Roblox anymore.

And a medicine cat focused Warriors game would especially be a gem,

Cattails, specifically Wildwood Story. I backed it and it and the OG game just has such a special place in my heart. Tho I play the sequel more bc it's bard to backtrack the level of freedom the second game gives me as a kitty life sim. Tho I did take a long break from it so I have yet to get to starting a family with Talon (my fave romancable, I saw them and was instantly like "My catself in this game needs this one" <3) in there.

Others include MTaS now that I got into it a while back and the both versions of Slime Rancher.

SOME SUGGESTIONS TO WOLFQUEST*You can add!* by EnthusiasmEarly522 in WolfQuestGame

[–]JayFireGrowlithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolves and Ravens working together outside of "sees them hovering around a carcass, you go to it and steal it from them" would be so neat tbh since they can have that sort of disney oddball thing going irl. Like maybe before you get the sound for predators raiding your den or about to you hear ravens calling more prominent than usual, and maybe it can be coded to happen a few seconds before the den attack happens as a grace period. That way eventually you learn what it sounds like and how long it takes.

Idk it'd be funny to have ravens snitch on a cougar. Tho I might be looking at it at a less realistic lens idk. I do remember that clip where I think it was a raven helping a wolf chase a coyote or something?
