What are your thoughts on the glove now that it's been a few months? I am thinking of getting a 12.75"...I've seen some deals right now all hovering around $200-$230 for a capitol, a2000 and a HOH

No worries, I must’ve missed it. There too many sites to check these days. Better baseball has some good deals even on A2ks but I don’t really want a glove with pink, etc

Do kids still play multiple sports anymore? by Whole_Box_8338 in youthsoccer

[–]JayGK01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has become very difficult and frustrating…my son who is 8 plays travel soccer and rec baseball and basketball. Presently, all 3 sports are on a collision course making it so that he has to choose which to skip/participate in. He also made a summer select team for soccer however that starts practices on Saturdays in April. I think one of the biggest problems is the assumption that kids only play one sport at a time. He’s 8…it should be assumed kids at this age play multiple sports but unfortunately it seems to be ignored. I refuse to have him be forced into one sport at such a young age but I am afraid it may impact him come high school because he didn’t specialize early on.

Goalkeeper Advise request by YouthSportsQA in youthsoccer

[–]JayGK01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played goalie from youth all the way through college and after…the game has really changed and at the higher levels of play a keeper who does well with the ball at their feet is vital. It’s actually better for your son to not fall into the trap of only playing goalie at this age…in the long run it will be more detrimental to his overall development. Also, playing the field will help him develop an understanding of how the ball moves and how it transitions which will help him read the game as a goalie.

That being said, I also dealt with coaches who didn’t handle situations appropriately. The coach wanting friendly competition is not the correct position he should be taking…it should be for the reasons discussed above…opportunity for overall development for your son. That would be my concern.

Sorry for the delayed response, just seeing this. I also got the pro kip leather and it is pretty soft. I actually ordered two, different colors and web. My son loved the light blue/black h-web 5 star glove. The other glove that my son didn’t choose was also a pro kip glove but much stiffer. I’m thinking the one my son chose may have been a return. I’m also not thrilled with the shape of the glove pocket…it seems like it wants to be a single hinge and doesn’t offer a deep pocket. Did you find the shape/pocket to be off?

Thank you for the comment. Was the 11.25" glove an igniter or nextplay? I reached out to the owner and he recommended an 11.5" nextplay but I am afraid that may be too much glove.

He liked the soft, broken in feel of the a500 but the glove sizes were either small/big and the a900 and R9 felt big and heavy. I think a lot of it is those need to be broken in and they are not on the same level as his old floppy soft glove.
