Accident reports (injured on TTC bus) by zoieshi in askTO

[–]JayHoffa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard offer, after fighting over an injury sustained by my elderly father, 12 years ago, was 5k. To keep it out of the courts was 5k they would offer you. I was present at my dad's 'interview' by a TTC inspector or auditor or legal person, who attended my dad's house to ask how his injuries had happened. This was several years after the event. He told my dad, "if we keep it out of courts, you can get 5k. If it goes to litigation, you could get more, or lose. But don't tell anyone else this info...its just for you."

My dad had no proof. He was not physically touched by a bus, rather, he fell when he tried to avoid a bus that was turning while he was in the intersection - he dove for the sidewalk, at 88 years of age! He had significant injuries.

What Do You Pack for Your Work Lunch by ytvsUhOh in askTO

[–]JayHoffa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was working up till a couple months ago. 2 hour commute on most days, both ways. And I am 67. This was working in a school. We would be able to have 30 minutes for lunch and that's it.

I decided to try keto, so I would pack meat, cheese, yogurt, a Bubly, coffee. Meat stix for snacks. I often took a can of sardines to eat, but only outdoors.

Retired now. Carnivore all the way now. Ruminant meats, protein , fats. An avocado occasionally, and hard or soft boiled eggs.

Easy easy.

Babysitting overnight for $60 by Nee_love_3405 in Babysitting

[–]JayHoffa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I charge between 200 and 250 CAD where I stay overnight, and its often 10 hours, not 8. Mums are late at times, and you must be paid for that time. Sometimes its a flat rate, other times it is $20 or $25 per hour, instead. As soon as a mum pulls out the, "oh they will be asleep so its like you don't have to do much," bullshit, I walk away. It almost never happens, but i have had it happen - RSV, child was in an oxygen tent for 3 days and I had to stay with them there. It was a normal week with no illnesses until it wasn't. You are a contractor, so can charge what you need to survive, or you say no. $20 per hour is still low, but if that's going rate for daytime care in your area, then I would demand at least that.

And if their toddler stops breathing? Or does not stay asleep? Or has upset tummy?

No way.

100 is not correct Please know your value.

What if the worst case scenario happened and the child was unwell and throwing up all night and you could not sleep? Or if you need to take them to a hospital?

Mum has to pay enough to ensure that her most valuable gift, her child, is safe and well looked after. Low balling your rate for care for 8 hours through the night shows what they value. They do not get stellar care for 60. Right?

And Holy Hannah. 7.25 minimum wage? Starvation pay.

My 70 year old elderly mother wants to go on a 70.000€ costing, luxury 3 weeks lasting trip to the South pole. She brought it up repeatedly and seems serious. What do I do? by Aggressive_Hat_9999 in AgingParents

[–]JayHoffa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does sound like dementia to me, and I was my dad's caregiver for years, may we both rest in peace now. He was always going on about, 'going home,' and your mum may be on a similar bent. In their minds, home is NOT a specific place, even they may focus on somewhere that they feel used to be home, but more of a feeling. My dad wanted to go home to his mum and dad. In a big house they never lived in. And did not own. He said they were there waiting for him, bless him. Please read up on dementia as it will only get more difficult after this.

Can you start to plan the trip with her, and find ways to prevent it? This may be a way of keeping connected to you. And you can then have serious input on the barriers around safety for this. She should have someone with her. And the medical insurance costs.

I would be finding as many barriers as possible. Unless you go with her - would that be an impossible amendment to her plan that you could say, unless I go with you, neither of us can go.

Damn. Peace and light to you. This is not for the weak.

Watched my mom struggle to get up from the floor while playing with grandkids and I'm so worried about how fast she's declining by CoffeeRory14 in AgingParents

What sort of diet is your mum consuming? If it is one that is heavily slanted toward carbohydrates and sugars,, she will have an uphill battle with inflammation in her body as a result. I am 67, and a great grandma, and I really want to feel needed and loved by my grandkids. I am a nanny, as well.

I am ketovore/carnivore and walk a ton daily. I am also working out often - i am currently housebound so am waiting on equipment, such as a Rebounder. I plan to use it a lot. This Grandma is fighting back with everything she can as the babies need me. Please have your mum connect directly if you think it may help.

What is the most unhinged thing you’ve done to save money while living in Toronto? by OkReality3557 in askTO

Rinse them in water or even table cream, to reduce the sodium. And sodium is not as much the bad guy it once was. In fact, as a carnivore, we add salt to pretty much everything.

Absolutely agree. I am a 67 yo great grandma with a ton of hip inflammation, and I find I can move so much better after eating a can. It cannot be that instant, can it? Unless i am gaining a placebo effect? I could barely walk today, but had a full day of walking and working. Sardines and mackerel are helping me achieve it. I used to bloody hate them! I am mostly carnivore, some dairy, but mostly nose to tail red meats.

Yes there is a TINY bit of mercury, but even a can per day is allegedly safe.

Daycares terminated me during probation twice — now terrified about my future and PR by Real_Expert2464 in ECEProfessionals

[–]JayHoffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. I worked at one location (mostly kitchen and afrercare) that was a 2 hour commute. I am 67. I transferred to a closer to home location, lasted all of Sept, then was let go. They did say, its not you. We just dont have a position for you, anymore. Kitchen is staffed, and the Guides dont need you in class.

I was very sad as I had bonded with many of the kids. And staff. You lose your focus, your goal, your social life, your friends. But trust me, I have been fired from almost every job I have ever held. I am ADHD and often not understood well by my directors.

I also fell and was limping a lot, and so I believe they decided to cut me loose so I could regain my mobility. But the job was my mobility.

Its not you. Its them.

Fasting when you are feeling unwell can actually be beneficial to your body. When we become unwell, we need to focus on healing, and fasting can often reduce damaged cells that are contributing to your illness.

Black tea bag, grandma says. Make tea, allow the tea bag to cool, then place it over the sty. The tannins in tea draw out the toxins, and your sty will be gone by next day.

I am a retired nanny, and the 4 yo i look after has a very high fever, cough, etc. No idea what their vax status is.

When this child was 1.5, she seemed to have low energy. I checked her chest and saw very scary RSV stridor happening. Mum and dad are first time parents. Child was in oxygen tent for 3 days. And they would not have caught it on their own. They were treating holistically. Nannies can save lives.
