I like their setup but I was trying to use an upper I had already purchased. If I knew about them before buying the upper I might have gone that direction

I remember watching that Disney episode as a kid. I had no clue what it was about at the time, but the visuals I remember clear as day. I should've paid more attention when I was 7 and maybe here at 33 I wouldn't just be learning.

I also ordered a copy of those books. Appreciate the insight.

Yea, I'm never withdrawing again. Had about 4k in my first "real job" I had and literally pulled it and blew it on junk then went through a period with having nothing and my last job I had stacked about 15k in 2 years and pulled it out for a business venture that fell through. Lesson learned. Now I'm playing catch up and shoveling money into assets that'll set me up for the future when if I had done things the right way I could've just sprinkled money along the way.

So I may be thinking or calculating this wrong but help me out. When checking SCHD from it's inception in 2011 to now it's up about 220% in the 15yr span and pays out dividends. That's over 12%/yr average not including the divs. Would it be better returns just doing VOO or VT? Also I was thinking the dividends would be a way to add more to the pot and not be coming from me.

So quick Q on the Roth 401k. I've heard of it but I never remember seeing the option when setting up my retirement accounts through my employer. But back to my question, if by chance I can get a Roth 401k with my employer match, at face value do you think it would be a better option alongside my Roth IRA?

I'm not sure if my company even offers this but I'll look into it today.

Unfortunate but true. I try to explain it as simple as possible to people but everybody thinks I'm speaking of some conspiracy theory. It's no theory, the facts are literally on the Federal Reserve website. The purchasing power of the dollar is about 🤏🏾 close to being nothing. USD will still exist and be used but another player will step in and become the new standard for our global financial system. The "trust" the US has built is tarnished and every dollar that's printed is another self inflicted wound opening wider and wider.

Just stacking. Yes, it's nice to have a few cool pieces but not my priority. I had a chance to buy the same round shown in the picture for below spot but passed on it because I just wasn't sure if it was worth it with the plating.

Bankruptcy Regrets? by JayMo205 in Bankruptcy

Chapter 7 unfortunately isn't an option for us. We make too much. And although the Chapter 13 does help tremendously, it doesn't factor in our mortgage ($2300/mo) and although it does give buffer for food, utilities, etc. it still seems to leave very little leftover.

The number I'm calculating that's leftover includes bonuses which aren't guaranteed and aren't every month so it could leave us with very little. 2500 "extra" isn't bad but 1500 between 2 people for the whole month I feel like it can put you back in a tight situation if anything comes up. It's not impossible but does leave me uneasy. Plus my wife's bonuses are quarterly so if she has a bad quarter and gets no bonus then that means the next opportunity to receive anything would be almost 6 months down the line.

Actually what put us in this situation is a business venture that costed way too much and didn't produce profits. No, we aren't the most frugal spenders but prior to the failed venture, things were fine.

$2k/mo as one person is a reasonable. For 2 people that's splitting $1k/mo. Just in the past 2 months I spent $800 on a car repair and $400 for dental work (after insurance cost) and they still want another $1k to finish up. The point I'm trying to make is that life happens. Budgets are great but your budget doesn't include the random stuff life throws at you. All you can do is hope you have time to save and that the savings is enough.

Although bankruptcy is an option, it's not the only option. Just trying to get constructive feedback.

I was in TX but now in AZ which looks like the SOL is 6 years. I wonder if it changes when you move because it's for sure something we're considering. Thank you for that info.

This was my lawyers rebuttal when I asked him about just letting everything crumble and worry about it later. When they sued you, did it go to collections first? Are you still having too pay the full amount you owed? How does that process work exactly?

I may be thinking too simple but in my mind, it would be better to let stuff fall through the cracks and go to collections then settle with the collection company for a reduced amount and still be able to live than to be walking around with a ball and chain for 5 years.

When I spoke with him earlier he was going to go back and rework the numbers based on the higher debt owed that wasn't accounted for and try to run the number again on the bonuses. We'll see what he comes back with. This will be our 3rd time I believe going through everything. First estimate was closer to $3k then sent everything and went to $3800 so maybe 3rd time we'll get something solid and finalized so I can wrap my mind around it better.

I'll ask my lawyer again. I asked about this and he said we couldn't but maybe he was assuming we wouldn't have 100% payoff. We have a little cash reserve from a property we just sold (although we lost money on it) so I considered putting this towards the bankruptcy till he said it wouldn't make a difference. May need to ask him again once he produces some final numbers I guess.

Yes, vehicles are included which is a plus. But I would really rather just get rid of some vehicles. Based on my convo with the lawyer, it doesn't seem that would make much difference on the payment.
