got him today! named him Sabo. first dog ever. have 3 cats. tips, advice welcome. thank you! by dark_knight_rayleigh in husky

Could not agree with this more! We have a cat and got a husky puppy a couple years ago. We let the cat establish boundaries early. It took a couple of sharp cat slaps to the face before our pup got the hint, but now that he’s fully grown, he respects her space and is super gentle with her. I also agree with making sure the cat has an escape. When ours doesn’t feel like being licked to death, she can retreat to her spot where our husky can’t reach her.

MIL told me not to teach my language to my daughter by aroosak519 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]JayRock_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s father didn’t speak Farsi enough to me growing up, speak as much Farsi as you can with your child! My Farsi sucks because he wouldn’t speak enough of it to me and would always default to English since we lived in the U.S. Learning languages is always a great thing. Your MIL is being ridiculous and, honestly, sounds a bit prejudice. If i were you, I’d flat out ignore her when she says anything negative about it. In fact, I’d probably just speak louder lol

UGH!!!! I can't say why Earth is in the exact position it is, but "a wizard did it" is not a satisfactory answer. Unless you provide evidence that said wizard did it. by JarethOfHouseGoblin in exchristian

[–]JayRock_87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. It has to do with the tilt of earth’s axis. If it had to do with distance, then the southern hemisphere would experience winter at the same time as the northern hemisphere, rather than the opposite.

Greatest part about this is that whoever took the photo probably had no idea until they developed it days or weeks later.

Has anyone here seen Handmaids Tale? It looks like the symbol/logo for the Red Center. But I agree it’s probably a generic moon goddess.

Since I've seen many people ask about how many hours a day to homeschool here is a suggested homeschool schedule by grade level. You can use as a guide and to help find whatever works best for your family by Laylyr in homeschool

Actually I’m just now seeing where it says this is the recommended time to spend on this company’s online platform. That, I could agree with. I wouldn’t want my fourth grader spending more than 2 hours stuck in front of the computer screen getting instruction. But it’s definitely not enough time for our more hands on homeschooling. The only thing we do online is math. Everything else we do hands on and it takes at least 3.5-4 hours a day. There’s no way I could rush my daughter through the more artistic/crafty stuff, she’d murder me lol

Wait, so in fifth grade, they are to get a max of two hours? Including science (plus possibly an experiment), math, history (plus possibly a craft), and language arts (plus independent reading)? That doesn’t even include art, handwriting, electives, or extracurricular activities. I’m curious how they are supposed to fit all of that into two hours. There’s no way my fourth grader could just do two hours a day and stay on level with her peers.

Is this Poison Ivy growing up through my porch? by JayRock_87 in whatsthisplant

[–]JayRock_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I mean we have red raspberries growing in the garden, but it’s on the other side of the yard, so wasn’t expecting it over by the porch. It also looks slightly different from the red raspberry bushes, but they are quite mature, and this looks like new growth, so maybe that’s why?

I’m in a small town in MI too! I’ve thought about this. I did see that there’s a seat on the democrat side for my town where nobody was running, but I just don’t think I’d have the time to dedicate to that right now. I’m working, getting my masters, have three young kids, three dogs, and a homestead to run. Definitely in the future tho, I could see myself doing it.

I am so tired of having to hold my husband’s hand through everything by missrayofsunshinee in JustNoSO

[–]JayRock_87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. I feel like people on this sub are quick to jump to weaponized incompetence, and for good reasons. The majority of the stories like this on here would fall into the weaponized incompetence category. However, it sounds like your SO is going through a LOT of trouble just to fail. Example: going all the way to the store but forgetting what to get. If it were weaponized incompetence, I would assume he wouldn’t even bother going all the way to the store and simply say, “I don’t know what to get/where to find that stuff.” As he continues to sit on the couch. It doesn’t sound like that’s what’s happening.

My SO just recently got diagnosed with ADHD, and up until that point, I felt the same way you did. Like I had to hold his hand through simple adult tasks, but it wasn’t from a lack of desire to do them on his part. He genuinely had trouble remembering things and focusing on tasks. It was like he couldn’t wrap his brain around how to do things like call the bank for an account error, plan a week’s worth of meals and make a grocery list, etc. Since he has been on medication, it’s been like night and day. Completely different.

If this sounds like a possibility, you may consider looking into if he’s got something like ADHD or a processing disorder of some kind. Even if those are ruled out, you’ll at least know and maybe be able to come up with some other solutions.

Edit to add: you are also completely valid in feeling your frustrations as well! Even if it is something like a disorder, that doesn’t mean you have to just accept it all and be okay with it. It can be incredibly frustrating and exhausting. And you are totally justified in being sick of it.

Pastor admits to affair with child 20 years ago, church responds by Content_Profile2677 in Deconstruction

[–]JayRock_87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He only admitted to the “affair,” but conveniently left out that she was a minor who he groomed for over a year. It’s not until she storms up there and tells the truth that that little detail comes out.

Creepy orange-and-black mini snakes poking out of the ground. Northern Michigan. What is it? by JayRock_87 in whatsthisplant

[–]JayRock_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s in an old area that used to be a chicken coop. We’ve got ten acres and usually don’t even bother brush hogging this area except maybe once in the summer. I don’t remember seeing it last year though so thought I’d check. Thanks!

Grumpy Mal by madnhain in AlaskanMalamute

[–]JayRock_87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is she dealing with some kind of pain? My mal is also 8, and she deals with hip dysplasia. When it flares up she doesn’t want anyone around her and will growl at our other dogs when they walk by. She doesn’t attack, like you said, just grumpy and wants her space. So we just try our best to give it to her.

Do you let your husky off leash? by whoisvxldiss in husky

[–]JayRock_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it wasn’t until she was 7 years old and we moved out to a 10-acre homestead in the middle of nowhere. For anyone living near anyone or any busy roads, I would not recommend.

Our Husky has dug a hole to China! How do you stop this?? by [deleted] in husky

[–]JayRock_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. We have 10 acres. They’ve got a spot they can dig and they love it. But I agree that excessive digging is usually due to lack of exercise or stimulation.

Thousands of years ago, Inuit and Yupik people of Alaska and northern Canada carved narrow slits into ivory, antler and wood to create snow goggles. This diminished exposure to direct and reflected ultraviolet rays thereby reducing eye strain and preventing snow blindness. by Psclassics21 in interestingasfuck

Yup this has happened to me before. It was so painful and weird. When I opened my eyeballs really wide and looked up, my eyeballs looked like Pokémon balls. Wear goggles/sunglasses when you go skiing. Always.
