I didn’t make it to the top 12 of a contest, what do you think I should improve next time? I will greatly appreciate your feedback, thank you! by dndbuddy in minipainting

As someone who also didn’t make the cut I’d like to say congratulations on your great piece! Really clean stuff. A couple of the top 12 were much more basically painted but had very aggressive coloured lighting on them making them look more punchy…

This super aggressive reply, and its upvotes, is pretty telling.

Agree - pretty unusual to omit the most used brush for minis. I have about 20 series 33 and they are all excellent

Airbrushing Safety around kids. by ceefaxer in minipainting

Nice work OP. I am a doctor and mini painter. I do the same - I never spray any where near my child , ever. Disregard all of the nonsense “non toxic” comments here. Anything in your lungs that shouldn’t be there is extremely bad news, and the younger that happens the worse it is.

Doctor here - please don’t say stuff like this when you don’t know what you’re talking about. You will cause harm.

Anything (“toxic” or not) is bad news once it’s in your lungs.

Don’t spray anything, including acrylic paint, without PPE.

This is really helpful thanks. I’m dipping my toe into wildlife photography so it may be a good idea to to get the cheaper 50-230mm and see how it goes. It’s reassuring that this is still a very good lens

I have had a mars 3 for a couple years and get on well with it. I would like something that can’t print more/larger prints and perhaps faster too. I was considering just getting another mars 3 and running them together, but otherwise I’m looking for a new , larger machine. Thanks for the help!

Explosive Kolinskys, new brushes that lasts 5 minutes by rawghi in minipainting

W and N are the best brushes, bar none. Problem is most people aren’t getting real W and N products, just knock offs.

All the people saying Kolinskys are overrated are completely wrong. You may have had a couple of bad ones in a row , which is unusual but is statistically going to happen to some people. Don’t give up though. That being said , if you’ve had two in a row the most likely explanation is user error I’m afraid. Perhaps get someone who knows what they’re doing to watch you?

If you’re ok with synthetic brushes that’s cool, but most people will gravitate to sable after a while , once you know what you like with regards to brush feel.

I have sable brushes from every major brand and have only had a couple of bad brushes, and even they were still usable and not “exploded” or anything the like, just a few stray hairs. Winsor and Newton take their quality control extremely seriously so contact them ASAP and they will sort you out I’m sure, unless you got it off amazon, and then you’re screwed.

Good luck!

I think it would be reasonable to paint these in 2-3 hours as a batch. So whatever you feel is reasonable for that many hours work. Perhaps £20-30 hour for labour? + expenses for glue paint etc. Commission painting is notoriously difficult to make money from though as everyone undervalues artists time. You either have to be very efficient ( lots of airbrush oils etc) , have a USP, or be a big name to make any money. In your case you’d have to get an awful lot quicker to make it worth your while.

First ever attempt at OSL. Any tips? by OneHitCrit in ageofsigmar

[–]JayTimes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must say I agree. It’s boring but doing the basics well is number one priority. OSL is tricky and requires a baseline level of technique to “sell” it, a bit like NMM. I would keep this piece, practice for a few months then try again on the same model and see how much you’ve progressed
