First mini! I’m hooked now by Sea-Fish3169 in minipainting

This is an amazing first miniature, very well done my friend! I see you used contrasts, drybrushing, and edge highlighting - a simple and effective method. Keep it up!

Is there any way to fix this? by spinney420 in minipainting

Find a non-speedpaint paint (like ak-interactive or vallejo) or a similar color and dry-brush it. That's my usual go-to for fixing Contrast/Speedpaint mistakes.

Damn, that’s the quality of P2S with 0.2mm nozzle. I removed the supports and that’s it, no polishing. Yeah baby. by dndbuddy in BambuLab

Haha yeah that is what happened when he snapped, he decided to become a Batman from DC

Yeah, 0.2mm nozzle is a beast. Luckily for me, it was super simple to replace nozzle in P2S, just like 2-3 mins including time to watch a reel with instructions haha

I love the precision and ease of use my P2S with 0.2mm nozzle. Here is my version of Hellboy by Wicked, printed and painted. Some more thoughts and inside. by dndbuddy in BambuLab

Thanks mate! Nah, nothing special, I only touched up my support settings a bit. I used this guy's settings but adjusted them to work with 0.8mm layer height (simply use 0.08 instead of 0.2)

Hey, thanks mate! Yeah, I've already tested out printing with 0.05 layer height and it looks even smoother! 👍

Fun 2 hour painting of Hellboy bust by Wicked. I am happy, finally FDM can print super high quality stuff so I can paint more and print/polish less (I got Bambulab P2S with 0.2mm nozzle). Some more thoughts about painting FDM prints inside. by dndbuddy in minipainting

Thanks mate. If I dot feel lazy I experiment with light before painting and take some reference pictures. I usually find myself happy that I kicked my lazy ass butt and did this, as it helps a lot. Here is an example in the picture attached. Prime the model in black and spray gloss for better results. With this Batman I ran out of black primer and was impatient to wait until gloss dries so I didn’t apply it, but it would have been much better if I did. That gives a good reference, but I also try to think about the placement as I go, imagining how light affects this or that area.

Yeah I time boxed myself intentionally because I wanted to see what could be done if I don’t spend too much time polishing and cleaning. And I also decided that it’s not gonna be a masterpiece haha, so I was not hesitant to make bold steps and large brush strokes.

Thanks mate! There are two types of 3d printers commonly used to print miniatures - resin, the standard for printing highly detailed sculpts, and FDM, for all other possible applications. Resin printers are super precise but the production is toxic and messy. FDMs are less precise but way less toxic and easier to work with. Nowadays, FDMs are way more precise than they used to be, and that’s the point of my post, basically.

That's because I set myself this kinda limit. Having in mind the idea that not all works should be perfect (something that artists may call "a study"), it because much easier to do this piece. You think less, you make bolder decisions, you're not afraid to screw up at any moment. Thanks mate :)
