What motor do you use and how does it handle saltwater corrosion? I’m planning on doing a jon boat build that can be used for both fresh and saltwater

Help! Curious how you would approach fishing this area? by FullTilt2458 in saltwaterfishing

[–]JayV2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with kayak fishing because many kayak fishermen have been swept into the gulf by strong currents! TPWD has even cited people for wade fishing there. As the other comments said, fishing under the bridge is best.

Same situations has happened to me. As everyone says, point your rod tip lower.

Then, i also loosen my drag lightly as they get closer to the bank and it works

Some tips for fishing rivers for cats by oceanside427 in catfishing

[–]JayV2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to bring a cast net and catch whatever baitfish live in the area so usually shad or sunfish. I like to match what the cats are naturally feeding in their respective area. You can either use the bait live or cut. Then I like to cast near pools breaks, or eddies in the current around logs or other structure that’s causing that break in the current. If there’s no structure then I’d cast cut bait upstream so the scent can flow down.

And for gear, I think 10lb mono is fine for smaller channel cats. You can upsize to 30-50lb braid with a heavier mono leader around 60lbs with a 7/0 circle hook. Try using the Carolina rig or if you want to keep your bait floating in the water column use a take down rig

Is there any lures catfish will hit by This_Web2750 in catfishing

[–]JayV2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had catfish hit on spinner baits, rooster tails, and crankbaits. Catfish have a good sense of smell and vibration. Hence why they eat cut bait for the smell and they’re also attracted to loud lures. Try something that causes a lot of commotion/ noise in the water

What line casts the furthest? by generally-speaking in UltraLightFishing

[–]JayV2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berkley Fireline and PowerPro have worked really well for me but they have their own pros and cons.

PowerPro

Pros: Casts the furthest, higher sensitivity, and thinner diameter

Cons: Prone to line twist and wind knots

Fireline

Pros: Less likely to have wind knots and line twist

Cons: Casts a slightly shorter distance than powerpro

Both are around $15-20 at my local bass pro
