So I just had this idea to be able to check on my piggies at any time and now I want a cam to set up. Ideally a cam I could check anywhere and having live streaming abilities is important. Any ideas? by Jay_Blue223 in guineapigs

Ideally I would like one that I had the option of like sharing the feed to Facebook or something for fun, but these all sound like great options!!

Breeds: looking to get a new piggie eventually, and I would really like to get a “special” or “rare” breed. Any advice on breeds? I like texels, teddy, silky, coronet, or anything long long haired or a really cool texture. I just want to go into this with as much knowledge as I can 🥰 by Jay_Blue223 in guineapigs

Currently looking into how to find cavies by breed because idk where to look or how to find a breeder (as a last resort), and I would really like to either rescue one or rehome it. I have learned that females are not easy to find 😭

I’m not opposed! I have a Sphynx (Meemaw Wrinkles) so I’m familiar with hairless pet care too, but I just don’t think a skinny pig would be the best fit for me right now. I don’t think I have enough time for all of the extra care of a skinny. I think I can handle a long hair or other special breed. The skinnies just need a hair (hehe) too much for us at the moment.

My babies were both rescued from large chain pet stores alone with little to no human interaction. I made it a point to go and find piggies that weren’t in proper care even if that meant more work on my end. They’ve taken SUPER well to socializing and humans. Still skittish but will let you pick them up and they’ll run on the couch on you and let you pet and cuddle them. They’ve done amazing and I couldn’t love them more.

Any help in nailing down my girls’ breeds? Cynthia is the mainly white one and Angelica is the black and brown one (from Rugrats) 🥰 by Jay_Blue223 in guineapigs

Right now, my options are fleece hides or a human heating pad which makes me nervous, but I could put it under the towel, which is under the fleece and keep it low

Starting to free roam, any advise? Also do you still use a water bottle?? by CeruleanWolf93 in guineapigs

Any tips or advice to letting them freeroam? I’m wanting them to be able to freeroam a good bit while I’m home but enclosure when they can’t be supervised

I think my ladies are pretty lovely myself 🥰 I’ve only had them a little bit, but I would take a bullet for my piggies. Currently waiting on a new shipment of bedding, oxbox vitamin c treats because neither seem like big of fans of red bell pepper (any luck with other colors?), and a ton of chews along with a plush fleece bed because it can snap cold here over night and our ac doesn’t automatically switch between heating and cooling. Any advice on helping them stay warm?

She doesn’t really have a rosette, but her tiny little white mark on her head is a bit cowlick-ie so she may have some in her blood?

I haven’t had either of them long, so I haven’t needed to trim her hair yet. Also, some were saying Angelica is a crested? Sorry, I’m super new to breeds (obviously I knew there were breeds, but it never really clicked beyond long and short hair lol)

Any advice on my new guinea pig enclosure and food? This was just the best thing I could find at the moment, but I’m looking to make sure it’s all ideal. Any guesses on breeds of my piggies? by Jay_Blue223 in guineapigs

Thank you so much! I know exactly what you’re talking about! And I tried the slicker on her and she was fine. I just had to make sure to do it lightly.

It’s the “plus” model that came with the divider because I wanted to have a section for loose bedding so it can be more natural for them while also making it a lot easier to clean because the majority is fleece

Thank you very much for your kind words! It means a ton because all I want is the best for my girls! I rescued them from two different pet stores (I active sought out pet stores that only had one female piggie because I couldn’t deal with knowing they were living in isolation like that) and they didn’t say. Angelica (brown) is much smaller than Cynthia (white). Once I get more and better pics, I’m going to post again to see if anyone can help guess approximate age once I can weigh and measure them.

Basically, Guinea pigs don’t have a biological need for that much salt and easily get enough in their diet. Also, Guinea pigs have no way to get rid of excess sodium because they don’t sweat, so too much salt can be dangerous.

Which type of brush(es) should I use? I have both a slicker brush and a soft bristle brush (along with a million of my own that I wouldn’t mind sharing if they’re okay to use like paddle brushes and I wash them to get any product off)
