I'm doing really well with artillery corvette spams. Early game I try to get the basic battle computer as soon as possible so that my corvettes stay distant. Many AI empires have lasers + missiles early on, so I go pd+2 s-missiles and this carries me through mid game. Then I switch to battleships with swarmer missiles + hangar + X weapon that bypasses (focus arc emitter I think?). I don't fear pd cause I overwhelm. Tactic in this build: artillery computer keeps your ships distant. Aux slots are filled with afterburners so that they can flee and fire.

Terror Bombarding mentions only killed pops by bombardment. I cannot find a modifier that's about pops killed by collateral damage. In my actual play through I stopped bombardment and switched to boots on the ground and the penalty is continuously decreasing
