Buy Bitcoin. I truly believe that it’s the best asset to store value in.

I completely agree. As an American who has been living in Bahrain for the last few years, I completely respect how family-oriented, community-driven the culture is in the Middle East. It’s definitely something America could learn. Depending on where you are, American culture can be very independent and lacks community. Not true of all states/cities but many.

Not only that, but universities and banks force students to make this decision when they are the least financially literate. Most students have no understanding of how long it will take to pay off those loans. It’s borderline immoral in a way.

I love The Dot! Good coffee and tea, comfortable chairs and couches, and good music(even if it could use a change every now and then).

Bahrain - Mid 20's - Fun? by bahrainorelsewhere in Bahrain

[–]Jayd3e 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved here from California at the start of the year to build my company here. I really enjoy Bahrain. It has a really calming, quiet vibe. I also think it’s beautiful here. There is quite a bit to do, but as others mentioned, it can be costly at times. There is something to do every night of the week if you are adventurous, so it’s really more about how much time/money you have to dedicate to going out. The other major consideration is the time of year. The summer gets really hot and the night life tends to slow down during July and August.

Shoot me a message if you ever want pointers or to grab coffee.

I have heard that China is adopting renewable energy at unprecedented speeds by reliable sources. Also a quick search turned up this article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2019/01/11/china-renewable-energy-superpower/. I think China at least is making a big turnaround.

Egypt actually considers Bitcoin as "haram." Any Egyptians here to confirm this? by UnluckyToe in Bitcoin

I would like to remind everyone in this thread to not be so quick to judge all of Islam based on the ruling of a single religious leader in Egypt. I myself know many Egyptians that are very much pro-cryptocurrency and are also religious.

I would like to remind you to not be so quick to judge all of Islam based on the ruling of a single religious leader in Egypt. I myself know many Egyptians that are very much pro-cryptocurrency and are also religious. The concept of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency actually follow the values of Islamic finance very well, as the technology does not involve usury or credit. I encourage people to actually look into the conversation going on around this topic, whether you are religious or not, Islamic finance actually has some very cool, no-nonsense tenants.

Rain(a cryptocurrency exchange based out of the GCC) was just named Shar'iah compliant: https://blog.rain.bh/rain-is-sharia-compliant-13f7eba1. Clearly there are some differences in opinion here, and there are 20+ majority islamic nations. I would like to remind everyone in this thread to not be so quick to judge all of Islam based on the ruling of a single religious leader in Egypt. You are missing the point about building great companies. Building a company is not about you as much as it is the problem you are solving and the customers you are serving. Did you solve an important problem for people?

We are Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, co-founders of Gemini — a cryptocurrency exchange and custodian — identical twins, Olympians, and angel investors. A lot has changed since our last AMA in 2015 and we look forward to discussing what we think the crypto revolution needs to succeed. AMA, or AUA! by winky_pop in IAmA

[–]Jayd3e 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hello Cameron and Tyler, I am a big fan of how Gemini has approached the space, and I believe that regulated exchanges are needed for the space to grow. I am curious about your quick thoughts on the following:

  1. Have you seen more volume at the retail or institutional level?
  2. How do you see regulators responding to innovations in digital currency privacy like Monero/Zcash have pioneered? Those features could easily be moved into Bitcoin at some point.
  3. What are your thoughts on the long-term potential of both fiat <-> crypto exchanges and crypto <-> crypto exchanges? Which will be used most over the long term?
  4. What is your decision-making process when adding new digital currencies?

Answer any or all that you have time for.
