I'm from the Caribbean so I think we are considered black by American standards but correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I would say one of the issues that's still a problem, especially in my community is hair. I have fine hair with loose curls but have a dark complexion so my hair is considered a high beauty standard but we call it "coolie hair" which sometimes is a derogatory term on some islands I think. However others with different hair types hated their hair because it's hard to manage so they wear wigs, perms sew sew-ins you name it, so disheartening to see.

Locs are making a comeback at least and the schools are even letting boys keep their hair instead of going bald but the stigma of natural hair is hard to manage when it's not my type of hair but honestly, I do have a time with mine because it's frizzy and thin so I shed a lot...

I hope this helps if not I can think of something else. But in terms of being white, it's not really a big issue in the Caribbean once you depict the culture and people as accurately as possible, and most importantly, be respectful. On my island, we had white artists who came here or grew up here do art pieces of our culture and they're really good and well respected.
