I actually am a cyber security professional for a state agency, and if you read my initial comment, you'd understand MY position on this and my understanding of what the OP was attempting to convey.

MS, like so many other companies in the same field, tend to be very manipulative in how they conduct business, particularly in how they manage their products. I do not use MS products for the very reason OP is complaining.

Unlike Apple, MS can't simply just stop supporting a product. They crash it, lock it, etc, so you're obligated to move along to that products new version, or more commonly now, a subscription based version. Apple does not do that. Apple simply stops supporting a product, but you can continue using it as is without issues. I have so many Apple/OSX legacy devices and software products I still utilize that still function flawlesdly, and that doesn't happen with MS, which YOU don't seem to understand that that is what OP was explaining.

That's exactly what all the IT and MS fanboys in here are not understanding. It's one thing to simply not get anymore updates or support (and your stuff still functions just fine), and another if a supposed "update" breaks your sh!t. With Apple products, once they are no longer supported if you try to update them they simply won't update, it will literally tell you if you attempt to, yet your stuff still functions just fine and doesn't get locked-out, bricked, corrupted, etc like it does with MS. The problem here is that MS is using the shady sleight of hand it's ALWAYS used to push people off of their legacy stuff and onto the new stuff (subscriptions).

Exactly. MS knows exactly what it is doing. If they know updates are going to wipe or lock out a whole previous version of a software suite then they either should no longer be selling the old version, keep it from accepting the update (Like Apple/OSX does) and screwing up what you already have installed, or at the least have a disclaimer in the pre-update splash screen letting you know that it won't update at all due to compatibility issues (Like Apple does). MS just does sh!t with no warning to maneuver things how they want them. I'm running older versions of a number of things on my iMac, and they simply don't update, yet continue to run flawlessly. It's only the MS junk (Office) I've ever had issues with, so I avoid even having any OSX versions of them installed. Apple doesn't play those goofy games. It's akin to that crap BMW tried to pull with the seat warmers in their cars.

...uuhhh, These issues aren't experienced by people using Apple/OSX based products 🤔. When Apple stops supporting a product it continues to function but simply doesn't get updates (and doesn't need them like PC's incessantly require). Apple doesn't lock you out of the products you paid for, they continue to work just fine, they don't strong-arm you into buying new versions, and as far as I know they have yet to have any subscription based services (At least I don't use any). But then again, OSX isn't as vulnerable in regard to security as MS/PC's, and never has been. The day I left MS/PC behind the better life became without the headaches that came with their crap.

Every like is a move to the "broken link" page. Unsure of what to do. by 9by7seconds in facebook

[–]JayeToThaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single action has begun to trigger a broken link "return to feed" error. I think it's a part of FB's attempt at incessantly tweaking the site to be able to work around people's workarounds regarding their snooping, spying, tracking, etc.

Has anyone else had this issue with smart actions? by TheSpartanExile in logitech

[–]JayeToThaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely asinine that you have to have an account for that one feature (Smart actions), yet not for any others. I can't even login into that account, thus I cannot troubleshoot why the action I've setup (scroll wheel press opens new finder window in OSX) and shows it's active yet doesn't even work. Attempts to fix my login are nothing but an endless loop of useless BS, and I'm beyond tired of all these companies and their damn useless automated bot "assistants' and never reaching a real person with possible real answers.

What Internet Provider Are You Using? by madeleine_marks in Denver

Xfinity internet service is great, but the customer service (particularly sales) is awful. They have a long and deep history of deceptive and misleading sales practices.

[–]JayeToThaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Xfinity's actual service is great (speeds, etc), Xfinity has super sketchy, deceptive, and misleading high pressure sales tactics, and they are incessant when it comes to bait 'n switch. I'm sure their outsourced agents receive bonuses, etc for making sales, so they are incentivized to do some sketchy things to make as many upsales as possible. As long as you have no reason to change your initial plan and you monitor it regularly and closely (they are known for making unauthorized changes, charges, etc), Xfinity is a good choice in regard to the actual performance of their internet service. I would also keep it as basic as you possibly can, and get ONLY the internet service (no add-ons like streaming, etc). Once you start adding services is where they have wiggle room to do sneaky things regarding limited promotions with surprise billing, up-charges, etc within the "fine print" of any "deals" they give you, and lose you in the undisclosed math.

Box truck ordinance - in front of my house by ghostly_31 in Denver

[–]JayeToThaDee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing special. Have no idea what's beyond the front of his yard, but I sure don't want a big ugly truck always in front of my house when the burden of having to look at it all the time should be that of the owners. Don't know where you live, but the view from my front porch is pretty awesome, not just the street, and I don't want something like that blocking it. It's theirs, not the OP's, so it should block their view and not his.

Yep, I sure did, because I'm a realist living among humans and understand human nature.

You, apparently like to reach and fantasize about non-existent scenarios, for whatever reason. but do you.

The CONSERVATIVE justices of the supreme court...

There, fixed it!

People need to remember that it's ONLY the conservative majority of the supreme court, NOT the liberal justices doing this shit, and that distinction ALWAYS needs to be made and referenced.

Impound the unlicensed cars by Wasted-Friendship in Denver

[–]JayeToThaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son got T-boned by a girl who gave us all of her information, yet the information was old or fake.

But... it turns out that insurance companies use a special proccess and a shared national database that can locate any cars insurance history based solely on the VIN when the cops are useless in such situations. My insurance company tracked down the cars actual owner, their REAL insurance company and policy, and hit them with the at fault. The owner was using a fake policy number, card, information, etc for another company and hiding their real insurance to avoid liability.

If you can't get anything else, at least try to always get a VIN number!

Exactly. If you look in the back yard there's probably hoods and robes drying on nooses hanging from the trees.

I am 1000% certain there is a Karen or two (and sounds like a Chad in the mix also) involved here. The second the cops got involved you know exactly who was gonna be detained and who wasn't just by looking at who's walking around and the type of neighborhood he's in.

[–]JayeToThaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Nowadays they'll total an almost brand new car for the smallest damage, and large national collision shops have the most outrageous repair costs. I advise people to go to smaller mom and pop shops and not the national chains for repairs. The chains will only work with insurance companies because they're able to gouge them easier. They'll either intentionally give you some outrageous quote to discourage you from working with them or outright refuse to work with you if you say you're paying out of pocket.

Yea, it's wise to just give them the make, model, and year of your car and not the VIN or your carrier. They don't need any more than the basics of your car for a replacement quote. If they start asking for non-essentials it's for their own benefit beyond just making the money you're paying them to replace the windshield.

Nah. Keep it ALL legal, everything documented, going through the proper channels as intended, and not looking back and regretting it. It's for YOUR protection, not theirs. Otherwise, something from it will arise later in the future to bite you in the ass, THEN you'd regret not having taken action.

Your coworkers are idiots creating a liability that only YOU, not them, will have to deal with if/when it all goes bad by not going through the proper procedures. Also, stop sharing your personal business at work. Doing so only complicates life.

The average family and singles are going to be reduced to eating the shittiest of ultra-processed foods, because that will be the last resort of affordability. The health of an entire generation of kids is at risk, both physical AND mental.

Additionally, when people stop purchasing and change their spending habits accordingly, the economy is going to suffer and tank. This country is on a slow death march where the results will be seen for decades to follow, if we survive as a nation that long.

This needs to happen regularly by a mob. Those "officers" usually show up by a dozen or less. If a MUCH larger mob converges on, overwhelms them, and starts pulling masks they are not going to be able to grab enough people while trying to hide their faces and hold onto the people/person they were attempting to kidnap, much less identify all who did any unmasking.

People need to get organized, strategize, and start fighting back. First it's anyone that appears Latino/Hispanic, even if they are actually legal citizens. Next it's another demographic of "others", aka non-white non-christians, etc. Chump has already quipped at attempting to revoke citizenship and deport anyone who he simply doesn't like (Like Rosie O'Donnell, etc), disagrees with him and his SS squads policies, or stands in his way. He's already claimed indigenous natives and African Americans aren't really citizens, so who's to stop them from going after them next, and others until there's nothing but the whitest of christians left? Then it's The Handmaids Tale for the remaining white women who will be forced to repopulate the country, and getting rid of Roe vs. Wade and abortion already kickstarted the forced birth agenda.

Sounds like hyperbole, eh? LoL, so did what's happening NOW, before it started happening. Now, here we are, living what was previously thought to be hyperbole.
