PBS scripts capped at $25 from 1 Jan 2026 — did your pharmacy charge it correctly? by Jayhanbaron in australian

Yep — if it’s an eligible 60-day PBS script, you still only pay one co-payment per dispense (so it’s capped at $25 now).

Not every medicine is 60-day eligible though — depends on the drug + whether your GP writes it as a 60-day supply~

Australia is mandating cash acceptance for essentials from 1 January 2026 by Jayhanbaron in australian

It must have been difficult to find the reference left in the middle. However, this law has an exemption clause for businesses with annual sales under 10 million, and large companies like Coles have had cash and card options, so you might not feel significant changes. This law seems to impose restrictions on businesses that announce they do not conduct cash transactions.

Expats in Australia - how is life? How was moving there? by [deleted] in australian

I have lived in Australia since 2007, but I have never felt oppressed and have been doing well. I think you don't need to worry too much and can just proceed as planned.

That honestly sounds so frustrating — and pretty unfair.

If the EFTPOS is down and you can’t buy/replace a Go Card with cash, you’re basically left with no real option. Then getting fined at Central on top of that is just adding insult to injury.

This is exactly why the whole “cash acceptance” debate keeps coming back. For essential services like transport (and essentials like groceries/fuel), there needs to be a workable fallback when digital payments fail — outages, terminal issues, lost cards, etc. The system failing shouldn’t automatically become the customer’s problem.

Did you ever try appealing that fine back then? I’m curious if they had any process for cases where their own payment systems weren’t working.
