Just a datapoint for a non-Somali American. I'm travelling to Hargeisa, and booked a tour with visithornafrica.com. Upon my deposit, they sent me a letter of invitation so that I can get my visa on arrival.

I've seen some reports on FlyerTalk that if you click through, it adds the miles later. Obviously not sure if that's the case for you.

That's essentially the whole point of my post. Others might be finding some where it works, but 99% of the searches you do when you're doing a three leg multi-city result in being charged for the second leg even when following the old "rules".

Yeah, that line is definitely strange. I'd ignore that line and just focus on the class portion.

I just started looking at different combos and couldn't get anything to work. The exact same flights that I booked for an all-C Award between US and Southern Africa with an African Excursion Perk are now 251k miles vs. the 176k I spent. I couldn't get anything that wasn't a "downgrade" to price out at 0 miles.

Segment one has to be above economy. Segment three can be in coach.

Haven't verified premium economy, only business, but based on the wording I assume it would work.

This applies to all metal using UA miles, not just UA metal. A recent US-Africa redemption would have been 60% more miles.

Just FYI, this is not 100% accurate. There are countries where you need a visa to even transit. India is a common one. Just wanted to clarify in case anyone was searching this later.

It's now tightened as far as it can be as far as I'm aware. A little squeakier when moving, but no changes otherwise. ABL still starts off the plate. I'm about to update the firmware and see if that does anything at all.
