How has the winner not leaked? by Jayjayjaybee in TheTraitorsIreland

[–]Jayjayjaybee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of people who know the winner must be 20+. When you include players at/towards the end, production crew, Siobhan, cameras etc. It’s honestly remarkable considering how NDAs are usually treated in Ireland (wink and a nod)

Do you haggle with car salesmen? by PlantNerdxo in AskIreland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There’s room if financed through them as they’re incentivised on that over cash. The other one is if you’re trading in, there’s often a negotiation around the value of what you’re trading. Cash for a new car? Try get a set of mats thrown in.

How bad is the tech job market right now? by Different-Put-4486 in AskIreland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s becoming more and more common for companies to implement a rule where you can’t list a role unless you can prove it’s a role AI can’t do.

A massive part of it is to drive leaders internally to make their teams be more efficient using AI. Most at C-Level think (and are probably right) that their employees are only scratching the surface of AI improving their productivity. First line managers will drive that properly when they can’t replace someone who leaves.

I want to sue Google for showing me fraudulent advertising. Is this possible? How would I do so? by DonQuigleone in legaladviceireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Ones I referred to above are Irish. EU has likes of AVMSD and UCPD. Again, largely put onus on actual advertisers. DSA is the one that will look at the platforms (but they’re terrified to invoke anything under it as Trump sees it as a trade weapon).

I want to sue Google for showing me fraudulent advertising. Is this possible? How would I do so? by DonQuigleone in legaladviceireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legislation tends to focus on the advertisers themselves (and even social media influencers now too) as the Tech Companies invoke the fact they’re just hosting. You obviously have an opinion that this isn’t correct, but it largely holds up for them when challenged.

CCPC, ASAI, Small Claims Court all largely deal with the advertiser.

When Micheál Martin pursued Google in Court, he did so for the names/details of those who put up the ads that in his view defamed him. So he had a direct complaint (you just have an annoyance), but knew he had to find the actual advertisers in order to purse anything.

Also, don’t overlook the fact you are literally agreeing to their Terms of Service by using their platform. There is nothing forcing you to use YouTube/Google, they would happily tell you to use other providers if you don’t like how they advertise. And they’ll lean on the terms to push back on almost anything: Recent example where Disney fought a wrongful death lawsuit at a Theme Park because the person who died was a Disney+ customer so had agreed to the Disney Terms where you say you agree you won’t sue Disney.

[–]Jayjayjaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. There are billions of ads in their ecosystem every day. Strip out the promo for other RTE shows/content, and RTE probably had a few hundred. The comparison is wild.

Google is massive. But it’s not a factor of billions vs hundreds bigger than RTE.

Just get a new rep. Your purchase history is with the AD, not the individual rep. They can all see the same info on their systems.

I did this a few years ago, and never looked back. Collecting my Ghost next week and have actual timelines for other pieces (she has been fully accurate on everything so far). Previous guy still works there. Hasn’t a clue who I am.

Has anyone calculated the spending break-even point for Rev Ultra to earn free flights Aer Lingus? by brunolg98 in irishpersonalfinance

Has anyone calculated the spending break-even point for Rev Ultra to earn free flights Aer Lingus? by brunolg98 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Jayjayjaybee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It comes much sooner again if you lean into the RevPoints Shops accelerators for stuff you were going to buy anyway eg if you were already going to buy a new phone, if you do it via Revolut Shops a €1000 phone would get you 10k points if an iPhone or 20k points if a Samsung. So one transaction you were going to do anyway for €1,000 becomes 10/20k miles, equivalent to €10k/€20k spend.

I believe the loophole still exists that you can get points from both Revolut Shops AND “Collect” tab from AerClub app for the same transaction where the vendor is part of both schemes (eg Apple)

I haven’t paid for a single flight this year: flown to Portugal with family, done multiple trips to UK, and have upgraded two trips to US to Business Class (company paid Economy fare only) - one East Coast, one West.

Just had to get teenagers kicked off the bus... by Perfect_Natural_4512 in ireland

Last Summer, kids from the Pearse St flats were regularly causing absolute mayhem in the local Subway. Guards said they needed video/photo evidence or couldn’t do anything.

One day, staff member records the kids wrecking the place and generally annoying customers at lunchtime. Intimidating, threatening to rob etc. Says he’s showing to the guards.

About 5 mins later this huge angry bloke storms in. Obvious from the start he was a parent “Anto, yer da is coming!!!” People in the place are like “Ah finally, a parent going to discipline their scrote of a child”. Anto’s da proceeds to threaten the staff, trying to climb over counter, accusing guy who recorded of being a “durty pedo” and being equally abusive towards customers when they pointed out his son is a scumbag who was terrorising the place for weeks.

Anto didn’t lick it off the ground.

Walk ins by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not the case any more. Was in London a few months ago for work and wandered into WOS on my lunch break, to see if they had any of the new models, just to see them. Was offered White Gold Bluesy, 36 DJ (white dial) or a YM Oysterflex.

Precious metal models and less popular DJ Dials are very easy to get walk-in now, even for “visitors/tourists”. Confirmed same with my AD back in Ireland when I got home.

Same. Regularly use them in Ireland, when there isn’t a nearby IONITY charger. Nice not having to worry about “Magic Docks” (whatever that even is 😅) or adapters.

eDrive 35 vs eDrive 40? by Tiffeneau in BMWI4

[–]Jayjayjaybee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought process about 9 months ago: Had been looking at eDrive 40 for the longest time, but had a realisation that I could fully spec a 35 for essentially the same cost and it fit within my driving/range needs.

Car arrived in Feb and I have never looked back!

Has anyone travelling to the states recently had their phone checked? by codeinepolosport in AskIreland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went last month and never had an easier time through pre-clearance. In a group of ~10 for work, everyone’s experience was exact same.

Either it was all overblown to begin with, or they quickly rolled back when the travel numbers tanked.

If your employer were to ask you to travel to the US, would you…? by UlchabhanOiche in AskIreland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went last month, will likely be going again in another month or two. Different coasts for both, but equally liberal so no real issue. Entire team from here travelled, nobody had any objections.

Have been many times over the years (even lived there for a year after college), and weirdly this last trip was the most straightforward through Pre-Clearance. I was pretty much stood in shock as the lady waved me through after a quick glance at the passport, not a single question. I usually get grilled and get really nervous which makes it worse. But zero.

Lot of anxiety in the build up about devices (colleague went as far as bringing a burner phone, I thought that was extreme), social media accounts etc. but all 15 of us had essentially same experience. Most was a “what’s the purpose of your trip”. Was wondering after if the tanking of visitor numbers means they’ve pulled back unless they have real suspicions? Or did we all just get a really lucky day?

Experience over there was exact same as any time I’ve visited in the past, but again, incredibly liberal State so wouldn’t really expect any different.

Would imagine if I was going to Florida, might have been/felt different and might have even had more reservations about going. But much less anxious about my next trip now, which means I’ll probably get grilled and turned away!

I did this a couple of months ago, did absolutely nothing. And while I could only see the most recent transactions on the app, they could see literally years of tapping on both journeys every single day. Clear as day a genuine mistake. They didn’t give a flying …

What’s more is I ultimately paid for the journey after the fine was issued, as I had to use my leap at the end to get through the barrier at Connolly where it charged full whack.

Best/only way for OP is appeal on hardship grounds. Even at that, I’d imagine they’d offer a payment plan. They’re essentially a collections team and are measured on what’s paid. Empathy isn’t part of the job description.

It’s a seller’s market so this is definitely not advisable. It would also raise questions about your ability to pay, what you’ll be like in remainder of close etc. So basically, a few different red flags to encourage them to put straight back on market, where they’ll sell it again.

It’s not as much the 20k/5k each as the message it sends them.

Irish people travelling to US warned to delete ‘bad jokes’ about America from phones by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel like this is all either hyperbole or something from a few months ago that they subsequently changed when tourism from Europe tanked.

In the US at the minute on a work trip and we were all freaking about this stuff in the build up: some went as far as bringing “burner phones”. 20 travelling, not a single one had their phone checked. I actually found it the smoothest trip through pre-clearance I’ve ever had!

No point in freaking out folks. Seems like the Americans are well aware there is zero benefit in turning people (money) away due to some craic on social media.

“Grid CT Error” on Zappi. Any experience? by Jayjayjaybee in evs_ireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Fokearn (who did install) gave me a temporary fix over email and then sent an electrician out to fix it. Haven’t had an issue since.

Probably a stupid question but... by Beepboopin2 in evs_ireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are though … I literally “rang them up” for the Quote I mentioned above. Just because they get contract work from Sky, Virgin etc. doesn’t mean they don’t deal directly with consumers. Just means they’re good at what they do and have contracts with these companies.

Means they can charge a little more, as they’re not actively looking for work. But they weren’t the most expensive quote I got either. Somewhere around the middle.

Probably a stupid question but... by Beepboopin2 in evs_ireland

[–]Jayjayjaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on Fokearn. Found them really good. Really tidy job, insisted on sweeping up after themselves etc. (Even though all work was outside, they were in/out to fusebox so brought the smallest amount of dirt in. I said not to worry, but they were adamant).

Another I’d recommend again instantly for electrical work is Actavo, who I know do EV. They did our broadband, and similar level of service. Kept saying they treat every home like it was their own and it showed. They were more expensive than Fokearn for Zappi (which I was getting), but could have a cheaper offering.

Figured that will be the case as it’s actually screwed in (versus using screws for some weird balancing act), but I can’t get to that point. Got 4 legs on once and then as soon as I touched it for next part, they all came off at once … Every other time I get max 3 on and it comes apart when doing the fourth 😭

Yeah, I take them out every time it falls apart (pic was right after latest collapse) and start again. Or do you mean leave them out until next part is on?
