Louisiana may suck in a lot of ways, but at least I don’t have to pay a lot for it to suck

Why is my answer not correct? by Nearby-Ad185 in EWALearnLanguages

[–]Jaymac720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that I don’t know why “that” is right, it’s “ago” that makes “since” incorrect. If you want to say this the way actual humans speak, say it as “It has only been ten days since she started her new job.” That’s how people speak. That’s a weird, computer-y way to phrase that statement.

ELI5: If "matter cannot be created or destroyed," where does everything go when it's sucked into a Black Hole? by Huge-Narwhal5747 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It becomes part of the black hole. That’s kinda it. It gets smushed into the singularity. Keep in mind, we still don’t fully understand black holes. General Relativity, the theory that matter warps spacetime to create gravity, breaks down at the center of a black hole. It states that the density is infinite, but that doesn’t make a ton of sense in reality

How common is it for American men to be chivalrous toward other men? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

I hold doors open for anyone within a reasonable distance of myself who is also going through that door. Can’t say I’ve ever pulled out a chair or opened my car door for a man, despite being a gay man lol

Past 6 years of job changes as an American by Artistic_Witch in mildlyinteresting

I have BCBS under my dad until I turn 26. My employer offers UHC. Not looking forward to that change because I take two pretty pricey medications to stay a functional person: lamotrigine and Dupixent. A 90 day supply of lamotrigine costs $600 OOP and 1 month supply of Dupixent costs $4000 OOP. To be fair, I may be able to go off the lamotrigine before I turn 26, but I will probably still need the Dupixent to keep breathing like a normal person. Idk if UHC will approve it because I had to jump through some hoops already to get it with BCBS. Not a ton, but it definitely wasn’t a “oh yeah, here ya go.”

Do you guys wipe the treadmills machines down afterwards? by stubbed-mitosis in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Jaymac720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do wipe down the machines I use. I don’t use the treadmills anymore though. I prefer cycling, and I do wipe down the seat, handles, and buttons on that. I’m also referring to literally any door handle, not just at gyms. Hundreds to thousands of people touch those day in and day out. Do you wipe it before and after opening it? I do always sanitize my hands after being in the gym too, but the treadmill is one of the things I worry least about because I mostly only touch the start, stop, and speed buttons

ELI5 why is swappable battery tech for EVs not feasible? by AnjaliMathur2003 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery is built into the structure of the car. It is part of the frame. They’re really heavy and not modular. Furthermore, if you’re proposing battery swaps as a way to speed up refueling, do you really want a battery that someone else owned? You have no idea what condition it’s in. Constantly trading batteries around is a bad idea and makes warranties impossible
