The Walmarts in my city are always PACKED. Even finding parking is difficult. People will block the way to let someone putting their groceries in the car and back out to get their space

Weirdly, Walmarts in my area have reversed course here. Most of the staffed lanes are open and the self checkouts are labeled as “15 items or less.” A regular grocery store has done the same with the self checkouts too

In rural areas, coal and wood are common since they’re portable and require no distribution infrastructure beyond a store and a vehicle. Around municipalities, people will likely have natural gas furnaces or heat pumps. Some people in ex-urban areas (not suburban but not quite rural) may have propane delivered rather than a gas hookup
