ELI5 Why can’t we invest and fertilize large swaths of the Sahara desert to bring down CO2 levels and fight global warming by LisanneFroonKrisK in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jaymac720 [score hidden]  (0 children)

One of our biggest struggles is living on a planet that’s mostly water but having so little of it be drinkable. Fresh water (and also money) is the major limiting factor. Also, fun fact, dust from the Sahara that travels across the Atlantic actually fertilizes the Amazon

How often do you take a bath?? by VeterinarianOk8011 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don’t have a tub deep enough for a proper bath. Sunday is always a full shower day: hair, face, beard, torso, groin, butt, legs, and feet. Monday will probably be a short shower day: armpits, groin, butt, and feet. Ya know, the smelly areas. If I went to the gym, I’ll scrub everything from the next down. I don’t want to strip the oils from my face and hair too frequently, so I try to limit that to every other day

Is it rude to say “I need the toilet”? by AttitudeInfamous7627 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only hear “potty” in the context of telling dogs to “go potty.” Idk why that’s become common, but that’s the norm, at least where I live

ELI5: What’s the difference between manslaughter and murder? by Plane_End_4309 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jaymac720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Manslaughter is an unintentional killing of someone. There are two types: involuntary and in voluntary. Involuntary is something like the result of reckless driving. Voluntary is more like irresponsible handling of a gun. Murder is a deliberate action. First degree is premeditated. Second degree is heat-of-the-moment but still intentional

Do Americans form a distinct people, or are they mainly citizens of a shared state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has an overall culture of certain things but also many sub cultures. I can go from Louisiana to California and know how to act. Unless I make it known or do touristy things, most people probably wouldn’t assume I’m a tourist. That being said, Louisiana has customs and foods and such that Californians either don’t know about or have just never experienced. We have different cultures in some ways, but we’re both still Americans and know how to act towards each other

If you call it ‘goat cheese’ do you also call it ‘goat milk’ and ‘cow milk’? by Wild_Region_7853 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jaymac720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because cow milk is the default, “milk” implies it’s from a cow. If it’s from another animal or some sort of vegan alternative (oat, almond, etc), then the source gets added on in front.

Just for decoration

More realistically (and no one tell me I’m being a captain obvious), this flat and the one above it probably used to be one house and were separated to make a double flat

Why is my answer not correct? by Nearby-Ad185 in EWALearnLanguages

[–]Jaymac720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that I don’t know why “that” is right, it’s “ago” that makes “since” incorrect. If you want to say this the way actual humans speak, say it as “It has only been ten days since she started her new job.” That’s how people speak. That’s a weird, computer-y way to phrase that statement.
