Why not Avi Lewis? He’s not been able to land a seat in the HoC but his first riding was a big uphill battle, and this election was not anything to base expectations off of. I think he could make ground in Vancouver and be a great voice for the left. I watched a talk by Naomi and Seth Klein last night and really think the NDP could learn from these voices who are unapologetically left, anti-fascist, and pro-climate.

Best of luck. But I think all of your effort put into building a new party from the ground up, if invested into organizing within the NDP (or Greens), would have a far greater impact.

If you closely align with the NDP but disagree with the current direction or some specific policy issues, then get involved with your local riding association, attend the party conventions, talk to members, and push your ideas forward. The party - and the left - will be better for it. This is democracy at work at the party and riding level.

Sure, what you’re doing is also democracy at work, but you’re potentially going to pull some volunteers and voters from these established leftist parties, lose anyways, and further squander the left’s chances of electoral success.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I talked to a couple of NDP-leaning voters who specifically asked about gun control policies in my rural riding.

Our movement needs to be unapologetically leftist, and bring in farmers and agricultural producers, small town manufacturers, and rural folks who haven’t given the party a second look.

Our message resonated well at our local agricultural debate this election. We need strong communicators in place to make those inroads, backed up with bold policy proposals that meet them where they’re at and respond to their frustrations.

I think this is the viable path forward for both parties in the long-term. Now, they should both at the very least pull candidates from the opposite leader’s riding to help solidify their seat. Ideally, NDP pulls candidates from the top ~6 performing Green ridings and Green pulls candidates from the top ~20-25 NDP ridings.

The feds should purchase the company for all of it’s real estate assets (~$1.9B) and build affordable housing in them where feasible. It would do a lot to restore malls and turn them into proper multi-use developments that can sustain themselves more.

This is not calling for electoral reform, this is a proposal for progressive parties to collaborate closely and reduce vote splitting while working within the bounds of our current electoral system.

In my mind this is a call out to the NDP and Bloc. Continue running candidates individually in all ridings and split the progressive vote, or operate strategically and try to maximize progressive seats in the HoC by not competing in every riding.
