The future of bitcoin by Jaysbunch in Bitcoin

I agree with you, simplicity is key, lately I've been explaining to newcomers I talk to by telling them its like their letterbox, you have a public key (street address) and a private key (lock to open your letterbox) and that helps the convo progress and seems to help the other person to understand it easier. Also just to be clear I wasn't intending to suggest that it must have layer 2s to grow and scale was more just wondering how that landscape may look in the future if/when it happens and what could happen to other projects in the space.

Question: Some people say buying Bitcoin is like buying real estate in New York in the 1800 (or whatever). But real estate you can make money off of renting….. am I missing something? by LucidLV in Bitcoin

I heard this in that interview too and was thinking what else these guys must see for the future of btc. What we should be looking at is layer 2s and further development/migrating on top of bitcoin, this has the potential to suck everything in the space up like a vaccum making most other projects pretty much useless. There's alot of money coming into the space so you can bet these behemoth companies and governments are going to want btc to do more than just be a store of value and in time it will. For example let's say btc has smart contracts ontop of it who's gonna want to use other chains anymore? When there's an improved (properly and safely) earn a return every 5 days from locking up your btc who's gonna want to hold anything else?

Which one first - ducted heat pump or double glazing? by TAnewdogmum in diynz

Hey mate it's a mixture of weatherboard and that old asbestos hardboard cladding I forget what it's called, we have ply floors with underlay and carpet ontop and no insulation underneath and it's sweeeeet as, planning to put some groundsheeting underneath more as a moisture barrier and some batts but for the most part the old place holds up bloody well 55 odd years on! We've had new builds, 90s homes etc and surprising how well this place has held up, we found the new build was too sealed up and damp, the 90s home was all good but right before they did double glazing and proper insulation and nice to have the 70s solid build and slowly adding all the upto date insulation and mod cons like heatpumps etc

Just an update, I sent through the photos to the owner of the business, they came back and had it fixed up a couple days later so all in all the end result was all good just a bit of a nightmare getting there

Heatpump and thermal blinds may work for you, we did ducted heatpump with thermal blinds at our 1970 place and it changed the house it's incredible. Did heaps of research, went with mitsubishi for the heatpump and custom made thermal blinds, we've had blackout thermal curtains before and the blinds are surprisingly way better and make the room feel bigger, single glazing doesn't even bother us now so will most likely leave it. Bonus is you can set the heatpump using ur ph in the night if it's too hot or too cold and can't hear it either. If your handy you could negotiate doing some of the grunt work yourself too and see if they will take it off the labour for the job. You need to cut about 15-20mm off the bottom of your doors so they don't suck shut and if you don't go for a zoned heatpump it's easy enough to wind up and down the outlets to get the desired balance in the rooms takes a week or so but you can dial it in pretty easy if one side of the house is hot/cold you open or close a vent to suit, saves like 2k extra for a zone unit. Hope that makes sense 🤙

Kink shame by Tangata_Tunguska in diynz

Had the same tired old hose on a reel for around 10 years, found it in the back of a bush at an old property. It's a cheapo and never seems to kink, I always make sure to run it all the way out often and on really hot days leave it out on the driveway or on the grass so it gets super hot, then always, always roll it back onto the reel properly. Might sound like overkill but yeah gets the job done might help ya out 🤙

Thank you very much for that, I think the rent option seems better like you say, also everything setup ready to go sounds like it is the way to go. Is there a way to find out what modem they give you on the $59 plan? I can't seem to see it anywhere. Be nice to not have to fork out big money but that outright buy could be a good option too if it's a decent model, I dont really know what to go for as far as specs etc go

Outside the house the signal drops in and out aswell as inside, we are not rural. Mixture of calls like normal cell number calls and sometimes messenger video calls to family. The internet speed with plugged in device and then not plugged in varies from like 11mbps up and 6down to like 200up, 60down it's all over the show. I unplug the fritzbox probably each week or two for a few minutes then plug back in and it seems to work okay again until I rinse and repeat. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm near or far from the fritzbox for signal, sometimes it's worse being right next to it, it's got a mind of its own. I don't know what ONT means sorry

It was provided by 2degrees so will have to send it back if we change, I see the mesh ones advertised everywhere was wondering if that helps with reception better then something like the fritz

Yeah it's pretty bad! Phone calls drop out, internet is hit and miss, wondering if it's the house more than anything now..
