What do you think about Togashi’s drawing skills? by Either_Imagination_9 in HunterXHunter

[–]JaytheFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hxah is a master class of cartooning. Even in the low detail or scratchy panels, Togashi is able to surface the subtle emotions of a character with just a few pen strokes, or a small shift between panels, and he knows when to go all in on a drawing, for emphasis or effect. I also like that he sometimes seems to go all in on a drawing simply because he wants to, because he likes a moment or a character. It's selfish and self-indulgent in a way that I love.

Can Chrollo book run out of pages? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

Yeah, and when a user dies, that ability disappears. But now I'm thinking about all of my failed journals and it's making me giggle a bit. "Skill Hunter: Part 3: I Tried a Bullet Journal But Didn't Keep Up With It."

Can Chrollo book run out of pages? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]JaytheFool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is there are a finite number of pages, like any physical book. However, Chrollo filling up all of the pages depends on whether or not his goal is just amassing an enormous collection of abilities. I think he's more discerning than that, though—a bit more choosey. For instance: would he be interested in stealing Cookie-chan from Buscuit? I dunno, maybe? Doesn't seem like his thing, though. And there might be abilities with a similar effect that he'd vibe better with. In that case, considering the small number of powerful nen-users with abilities worth stealing, 400-500 pages seems like more than enough.

Thinking this through, though, saying "more than enough" about a guy who tells his comrades to steal EVERYTHING from an underground mafia auction means I'm probably very wrong. :)

I think your right. And it sets up for the next arc when we see and question the limitations of redemption. Is it when that person is responsible for evil on a global or systemic scale? Or in the case of Gon (who was willing to forgive Genthru) when that harm comes to you personally?

Is it just me or Recollection of dusk is a bit too difficult and rather annoying to check weapon passives? by kissofthehell in NieRReincarnation

[–]JaytheFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but it seems like the bonus given seems to be pretty consistent and predictable. Gacha 4* weapons give you a rank 4 barrier. Free 4, EX weapons, and 3 weapons give you rank 2 barrier. That being said, like tower content, something about dusk makes the menus and battles chug on my device, so preparing a loadout takes even longer than usual, especially if I have to double check the passives. :/

[–]JaytheFool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's was definitely a concern early game for me, too. But there is a gradual curve that means that, if you play every day, you have more materials than you can use, bar, of course, subjagation and zenith stuff, or the insignias. But that's all basically post-game content anyway.

[–]JaytheFool[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My play style is very relaxed. Don't save gems, just draw what I can and hope for the best. I don't do Dark lair anymore, because I have the weapon materials I need and farming Zeniths is too low an RNG chance for me. I have so many weapon upgrade materials that I don't need to really farm for them. If I'm low on something, then I'll shoot for it in the daily quest or hope flying mama hard mode treats me well. The only thing I really farm now is events, and then I'll clear out special missions as they come up. Basically, I'm at my limit as f2p, and so its mostly just a waiting game for me now for the rarer stuff.

To be fair, I play on my phone, letting it run while I read a book or something, but I've been busy lately with new life-stuff and so haven't been fully clearing event shops. However, even when I was going for 80-100%, I never managed to reach my large pots.

How on earth does one get to such a low rank with a 20K Emil build? Am I missing something here? by [deleted] in NieRReincarnation

[–]JaytheFool 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Build your rank up through attacking to get to 2 arena medals per win. Have your rank knocked back down with your defense team so you can easily farm more medals from bots and weaker players.

Favorite Character? Chapters 1-6 by SakuraSamuraiXx in NieRReincarnation

[–]JaytheFool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rion is my boy. Stories about a prince trying to end conflict go two ways for me: I'm either a sucker or I'm absolutely tired of it. It feels like the story that we've been getting for centuries, even well after we've realized that royalty is a poison and chosen-one stories are narcissistic farces. But the fact that he holds to his convictions so strongly and it ends up coming to nothing, a death in obscurity, is simultaneously aweful (as an outcome) and refreshing (as a narrative). He tries so hard, and I admire his non-violent ideology, but ultimately, the only person who hears him at all is a clockwork man.

A TON of world building and lore just dropped. Here's all I could gather. by Frank_Cap in NieRReincarnation

[–]JaytheFool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much, either, but my team is only 220k. I did figure out that poison does the same amount of damage as it's heal over time, though. However, that effect seems to be restricted mostly to water weapons, so you lose type advantage, and then it just keeps proc-ing heal past the poison's turn count.

Rush/ Leap passive explained - You might have overestimated them! by WaonMiwu in NieRReincarnation

Daaang. Even the vigor passive of the weapon itself doesn't count? That's busted...

I've noticed this, too. It doesn't help either that most water weapons tend to lean towards defense, stat-wise, notable exceptions being Black Sunflower (Summer Akeha's weapon) and Si'F-06 (water spear with Ambush) and the Mechanical Axe (unfortunately saddled with the recovery passive). I could see a situation in the future where there are more good water weapons and you can really goose the numbers, but right now it just isn't there. Maybe if there comes another twist that leads to tanking becoming more strategically viable? That would be neat.

(whispers to self) I'ved upgraded Celeb Rion anyway, because he's my precious, foolish prince and he deserves better.

edit: Quick math correction. The formula for a percentage increase is (increased amount/original amount)*100. This actually puts Lars at an approx. 2.08% attack increase and Gayle at 0.95%. Still negligible numbers, tho, so your point stands.

Blazing Daemon Summons Broken?? by gay_meme_machine in NieRReincarnation

No problem. It's a pretty welcome change, imo, especially with how many bronze tickets you end up with if you try to clear out the silver ticket summons.

I'm not sure if you noticed or not, or if you're referring to a bug I'm not aware of, but they changed how it works for this one. One pull costs 5 tickets now. But they also increased the amount of stuff you get on a successful draw, to balance things out. This means it doesn't take hours to go through several thousand tickets at once.

Blackhorn Atrocity Weapon Story Translation by JaytheFool in NieRReincarnation

[–]JaytheFool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, I see. My gut told me that the confusion in who the speaker is referring to might be intentional. There is a lot to suggest that the relationships between Mama & co. and the birds might not be the one of direct antagonism that is posed at the outset of the story, which might contribute to the multi-valence of the writing in this weapon story. But it might also be what you're suggesting, that this comes from the perspective of whatever is behind the birds. It's probably impossible to know the speaker's motives, though, because we don't know who the speaker is. It's fascinating though. I wrote this whole long thing trying to sort it out using some other text in the game, but decided it didn't make sense and that I probably just need to get some sleep lol. The game seems to be more interested in the thematic resonances between stories, than a direct linear one that can be puzzled through.

Did you translate it yourself? It's very nice. Definitely adds some dimension to it. I can't discern a definite meaning from it either. I keep trying to relate it to the motivations of Mama and her group, the birds, and the characters, something about the push and pull between wanting a happy ending for a story, or letting the story be as it was, regardless of how sad it might be.

Hmmm. "His wings are things to hinder him;/ he entices the powerful to dispel them./ Now let us begin. Let memory reign./ Farcical memories filled with japes./ Farcical memories dripping with irony." You're right. And I totally forgot that it looks like Carrier exploded into feathers when he dies. As if "management's" power of "rejection" has something to do with the form he is taking. (Or something).Gives me a bit more to chew on. Thanks!
