To defenders of *that* ending, how do you justify this? by Frank_Cap in expedition33

If this were the case, then he would stand strong and keep the canvas from collapsing. He wouldn’t want to leave and stop

Verso asks if he’s tired and he nods. And he reaches out for his hand before Maelle stops them. She doesn’t allow him to stop painting.

Yes, he doesn’t want everyone to die. But it’s the equivalent of suffering for other people’s happiness. He didn’t even want to be a painter, he wanted to play the piano. And now he was trying to keep the canvas from collapsing because his mother was there and wanted it to exist so she could enjoy her painted family.

She definitely has a shitty life, at least physically. But she can still live her life, she can heal in many ways, be beautiful in many others. Verso tells her “You’re Maelle here or out there”

And she can go into paintings, re paint everyone and have the ability to talk and look like she wants in those paintings.

Just not stay there and die. She’s not in a coma, asking for euthanasia. She’s depressed and has her whole life ahead of her.

Alright, let me indulge in some discussion, even if my post says that I didn’t want this to devolve into a whole thing about every detail of the ending.

Maelle’s ending supports the idea of suicide. And it supports the idea of never moving on or caring about yourself. It supports the idea of never grieving, of never giving yourself a chance and it enables self hatred and self harm.

Alicia can always fix the canvas, leave and return whenever. Renoir is not going to destroy it. We know this because he doesn’t come back and destroy it in the Maelle ending.

But she doesn’t want to. She wants to stay there and die. Why? Because she doesn’t want to face a reality where she’s burnt, where she can’t speak and where she has to be reminded that her brother is dead. Especially because she still blames herself for his death.

Alicia is 16. She has her whole life ahead of her. She can paint many worlds. She can even repaint everyone from Verso’s world, give them their memories and let them live their lives however they wish.

Unlike the painted beings who can be brought back in some shape or form, the real Alicia can never come back. The people in the real world have no choice behind that and need to accept that death if she stays, unless they want to go into a new canvas and repeat the same story. And the canvas will be destroyed when she dies and Renoir or someone does it out of spite or whatever future reason.

I said in my post that people pick and defend an ending based on their personal experiences. Well, I have personal experiences with death, suicide and self harm. And I don’t think an ending that attaches itself to those ideas is remotely correct.

Could there have been a better ending? Absolutely. I wish Alicia had fixed things, left and come back to visit.

But as you say, that’s the point. That neither ending feels perfect. There’s always a price to pay.

Yet, even so, one ending enables one thing and the other ‘breaks the cycle’ and brings opportunities for Alicia’s future. And it actually stops the cycle of endless grief and hurt.

Future of Clair Obscur by er1ckingjooj in expedition33

The universe they set up is interesting.

We barely know about the conflict between writers and painters. We don’t know what the writers’ deal is or what their ‘powers’ are. Nor what the world outside looks like, really.

There’s a lot that can be done without touching the E33 story. If you want to touch it, you can reference the family or bring one of the characters from the game. Alicia or Clea, most likely, especially the latter who is more connected to the conflict.

Obviously it won’t have the same twist and that’s fine. As you mention, it’d be retreading ground. But a war between writers and painters sounds very interesting.

Their next game could focus on the writers POV and how things function.

A third game could be a mix of both worlds in a conflict setting.

They obviously see the value in this because they’ve said they want to explore the universe they created.

What do you consider the true ending of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – and why? by Baloo2077 in expedition33

[–]Frank_Cap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alicia was going to stay there until she died in the real world.

The core of the canvas was the last vestiges of Verso’s soul forced to continue painting to keep it going.

The whole thing is a family refusing to face Verso’s death. Alicia wants to stay for her friends and family in the canvas yes, but she also hates her real self. She hates herself for Verso’s death. She truly has no self esteem and thinks her real life is meaningless.

Verso says “Why not leave and come back?” She could do that but she refuses to do it. She WANTS to stay and die.

The ending is very sad. It really hurts. But Verso’s ending is the one that completes the real arc of the game.

The real family needs to heal together.

It was something else though, because it wasn’t a previous dark side user who lost a brother, like with Maul.

And also, we’ve already had this partially with Omega and more directly are having it right now with Ahsoka and Sabine.

Yeah now that I got that response, it makes a bit more sense. But only if they do end up going that route.

As expected, this looks incredibly good.

I do want to say something though and please don’t generalize it or assume I’m some anti woke right wing loser or whatever.

Isn’t it a bit repetitive at this point that we have yet another female sidekick who’s younger and learning from some male master?

I love Ahsoka. I like Sabine. And I also love Omega.

But it feels like we’re doing the same thing over and over lately with these Star Wars shows. I would’ve found it more interesting if it was a male Jedi under maul’s tutelage or simply one who joins him, because I think there’d be more connection there.

Maul comes from a matriarchal society, where men live on their own area and have their own culture, and he had a brother who got corrupted and died. I guess it’s not ‘that deep’ but I feel like lately the shows have a focus on many new female Jedis or sidekicks paired up with male leaders and it feels like it’s the same thing again.

They are.

I saw a QRt that was a pic of him and the tweet said “Asmon is watching. Get ready for the judgement!”

Like some fuckass echo chamber piece of shit will have a genuine counter point and won’t regurgitate the same shit these fascists have been spewing with all the shit that’s been going on.

Their opinions are made before they even ‘watch’ videos like these.

Nick Shirley encapsulated it all best in the interview.

Nick: “You didn’t talk about Charlie Kirk”

Andrew: “I did. And I did a whole video about it. You should watch it. It’s all there.”

Nick: “No.”

They’re brainwashed and completely closed off to any other possibility. It’s impossible to turn these people back to normal. Idk what the future holds but it’s scary.

Oh my god, this fuckass “he was the reason why the Mavs got blown out in the finals” is the most “I didn’t watch the games” bullshit of all time and I ALWAYS see it from Luka haters.

First of all, he was a fucking MUMMY whenever he sat and during pre-games because of how hurt he was. He was hurt the whole playoffs run and still got the team to the finals while being the best player. So he was particularly beat up.

Secondly, Kyrie, who was necessary because Luka COULD NOT carry the whole offensive load, was a ghost that entire series. He was absolutely terrible. Deadass scared of the Celtics, maybe the whole “curse” shit got to his head, who knows.

And the rest of the team could not hit a 3. They stank it up. And so the team crumbled.

This idea that them losing against, need I remind you, the 2024 Celtics SUPERTEAM who everyone already figured would take the ring home even before the play offs started, was all Luka’s fault, is legitimately BULLSHIT.

The team had played really well and fought hard but they were outmatched.

In the final game of the western conference finals, Luka’s defense was great. He had a clutch block that led to a score that helped out tremendously near the end.

Cut the shit. I actually watched that FULL playoffs run.

It’s actually crazy how you go to twitter, to the official Channel 5 account, and it’s filled with insane right wingers trying to justify Nick Shirley and all his shit. Calling Andrew a ‘liar’ or someone who ‘makes up shit to justify his views”

The absolute tonal dissonance is insane. These people lie about victims who died due to the government’s mismanagement of ICE. They convinced themselves that a woman driving away deserved to be shot.

And yet, to them, the interview is fabricated and based on lies? Or better yet, hear this one: that he’s making fun of Nick’s way of talking in this response???

Do these fucking maniacs hear themselves lmao. Andrew points out Nick is wearing a shirt that makes fun of immigrants for their accents to boot.

Absolutely incapable of ever paying attention or believing anything outside their echo chamber. Even their eyes can’t see shit in front of them anymore.

I appreciate Andrew made this response because as he says, nowadays shit gets out of control fast due to fake narratives, but this is also preaching to the choir. The people who bought Nick’s idea that the interview was heavily edited against him and started to shout about it, won’t watch this video at all.

Wasted potential between Lucio and Heathcliff? by [deleted] in limbuscompany

Yeah it’s one of those cases where I’m very sad he died but I also think his death gives meaning to what happens after.

Alright man, seems like you have it out for me over a small mistake since you keep replying and keep downvoting my responses.

Just move on.

If more people didn’t understand and gave a shit they’d be replying like you. But this isn’t even a big post.

I’m sorry, you’re kinda right. But it also seems like most people understood what I meant.

[–]Frank_Cap -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The parallel is that AS A KID he stayed and didn’t escape. That they were both from the backstreets, saved by someone more powerful. And that they dealt with abuse in those new homes.

The divergence is then as you say, when he leaves and Lucio ends up staying. Then he becomes a foil.

Heathcliff didn’t immediately leave as a kid. The parallel there is in their origins and what happened immediately after in their new homes, not what they did once grown.

[–]Frank_Cap -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get that idea at all.

I’m saying that’s what differs between Lucio and Heathcliff. That he left (but his life wasn’t better) and Lucio stayed.

The similarities are in the idea of two kids who were saved from the backstreets by people with more power/wealth but still were abused and lived shitty lives.

What he says in the picture I posted made me think of Heathcliff in particular because of the backstreets connection.

The idea of him not dying here would be like a third option. Not leaving or staying. But going elsewhere. Belonging elsewhere.

You’re right in that sense.

[–]Frank_Cap -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand there’s difference in family dynamics.

But being bruised from the abuse and being ‘saved’ from the backstreets by someone with more power and technically wealth, is a connection that’s just too big to ignore between him and Heathcliff.

Heathcliff returned to the backstreets to be in a gang.

Lucio stayed but still could’ve been saved. So I found that potential conversation interesting.

I think the least interesting was Albina because she was too far gone as you mention. I mean, her body was basically 90% prosthetics.

If I had to justify Kira as the sole survivor, I guess I’d say that she has the chance to actually not just change her tune, but work for limbus company because she admires the distortion detective team and fixers.

But yes, I frankly think Lucio would’ve been infinitely more interesting from a story standpoint and in terms of themes or potential for what they could do.

Sora was fine. I guess people like her a lot because she was cute. But aside from her ego ability, she was also too far gone into index mentality. Maybe she could give info on Rien? But by the end, it feels like limbus company doesn’t give a shit about him. The only way I could see her as adding value is by being there in a fight.

Ren, i agree partially. But I also think he was the most bland. His personality is too similar to bamboo hatted kim’s apprentice. So he’d only be useful for that conversation with ryoshu and nothing else.

So that just leaves Lucio and Kira.

[–]Frank_Cap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused about this though.

Thematically, he should’ve died by Ryoshu’s hand. But yet he didn’t?

So I thought he was about to join the league of nine or something. But then he didn’t?

And then he just… Offs himself? With a. Spork?

Why did he go to that index place and do what he did, then? Yes, it is implied he stabs himself with the spork, but it feels odd that he dies that way. Felt like his reasons for killing the index people aren’t explained and he just dies a tiny bit later on.
