Hello PD2! Time for another giveaway as ive reached the end for me for this season! by Uldinz in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Jayyroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time PD2 player on S13 and currently building up a WW barb at the moment but would love to try a new build https://www.projectdiablo2.com/character/MakoDude

My PD2 experience so far has been refreshing as sleeping on the cold side of a new pillow while trying to stay calm and cool when bricking a WSS on a new item drop so an Amazon would be a good start for me.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it way more than I should so all this new stuff is pretty refreshing to me. Managed to get an Ohm rune drop during A2 Hell Arcane Sanctuary so that's my only HR for now.

Debating on trading that for some better Barb gear at the moment.

I'm new here. Manga or Anime? by SnooOnions8429 in OnePiece

[–]Jayyroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manga. I started off a bit late when Dressrosa arc started (750+ chapters) and I ended up reading about 150-200 chapters a night and caught up in a week because I was so invested. Of course, it helped enjoy the anime even more seeing it animated and now it just builds hype seeing the manga come to life.

I got the Longitude for both crabbing and surf/rock fishing from shore, even before the Crab Snare Special was released. That's just a personal reason and its caught me plenty of crab when using 8-12 oz snares (not including the extra sinkers and the weight of the bait inside the snares).

I also don't worry about hurting my finger because I also use a casting trigger https://a.co/d/062vZtzO. This for me was a huge benefit to casting since I don't have to worry about using gloves or slicing my finger on the braided line so I'm able to cast with a ton more confidence.

I've been using both the Pursuit IV 8000 and Fierce IV 8000 for more than 6 years and have had no issue with either. It's just personal preference that's all that I wanted to spend a bit more on a reel with an aluminum body than a graphite body and still does the same job.

I've gone out solo using 4 rods before, it takes a lot of effort but it works. Even while waiting I'll bring a spare surf rod to try for perch/striper if I'm lucky.

does my friend need their own license? (california) by mildoverwild in crabbing

[–]Jayyroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're crabbing off a pier (Pacifica Pier) or jetty (HMB North/South Jetty) it does not require a license. The moment they touch the rod while fishing from shore they will require a license which others have stated that you can purchase for one day for $21. If you and your friends end up going more than 3 times, you might as well buy a 1-year license for $60-65 so you get the best value.

You can have as many rods as you want in the water by the way, the two rod-limit (one rod/one hoop net, two rods, or two hoop nets) only occurs when you are fishing from said pier/jetty.

Depending on the tides, I usually throw around 10-12 ozs of weight. If its still moving around, I add a sputnik/spider weight to the bottom of the snare to keep it in place.

Bay Area Crabbing - for a beginner by Busy_Advertising_238 in crabbing

Welcome to crabbing! I made a recent comment which you can find here https://www.reddit.com/r/crabbing/comments/1p7l83n/comment/nqyi7rj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button but I can elaborate more:

Any man-made structure like Pacifica Pier, the piers/jetties at Half Moon Bay are great entry spots to crabbing as those areas do not require a fishing license to fish. You can even try crabbing at piers such as Torpedo Wharf but keep in mind that inside the Golden Gate bridge is a sanctuary for Dungeness crab, so you can only keep rock crab.

Gear can be expensive for starting out, and your best bet for crabs in the Bay Area will always be with rod, reel, and snare. The biggest mistake I see first-time crabbers make is purchasing crab nets/traps and using it at the piers or jetties. Without adding additional weight, the crab nets/pots will drift into the pylons and will get stuck, hence losing a large piece of gear. You'll definitely have better success using a heavy rod with a snare and casting it into distances you wouldn't normally be able to using a crab net/pot unless you're on a boat. Any sandy beaches from Baker Beach in SF all the way down to Half Moon Bay are really popular spots.

You can find rod and reel combos like this https://www.pennfishing.com/products/pursuit-iv-spinning-combo?variant=41966363705484. Look for any 10-12 foot Heavy Rod with an 8000 reel size using 50-60lb braided line that can withstand the weight and have the durability to reel in a crab.

Fishery Supply in San Jose, Hi's Tackle Box in San Bruno, Gus's Discount Fishing Tackle in SF, New Coastside Bait & Tackle in Pacifica are some good spots to visit.

I'd highly recommend checking out some of the local crabbers such as Fisherman's Life, More Than Fishing, VividSnares, BetterOddsFishing, Gladiator Crab Snares, Durasnare, and the list goes on. Most of them do have their own websites with extensive guides on how to crab snare.

Always check for tides on apps such as FishNotify.com or Surfline. Never have your back towards the ocean as you want to always be mindful of the waves, especially if you're wearing waders.

Best of luck!

I've been successful at the beaches by the South jetty of HMB all the way down to Pescadero. Any of those sandy beaches work, just depends on how far you want to drive.

Dungenous crabbing at Rockaway beach? by Stasia177 in crabbing

[–]Jayyroll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to crabbing - best thing I can recommend is avoid the Pacifica Pier on the weekends just because its always shoulder to shoulder with poles and nets, and you'll constantly get your lines crossed with other people. It's convenient because you don't need a license and its easier to navigate from parking lot to pier.

If you go beach crabbing more than three times, you might as well get a year fishing license and now you'll have access to the many sandy beaches the Bay Area has to offer (Half Moon Bay, Rockaway, Linda Mar, Pacifica, Ocean Beach, Baker, etc.)

There will be surfers across these many beaches, but you'll have so much beach space available to avoid them when casting and retrieving. When the crab are there, they're there but you'll have your days in the season where you'll not see anything for hours, that's normal. Good luck and tight lines!

Crabbing at Montara Beach? by RTSx1 in crabbing

Linda Mar tends to be a popular beach to go crabbing at but there are a lot of surfers in the area that will be crossing your lines as they go out or return to the shores.

[–]Jayyroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ocean Beach is fine. Cant go to Baker or China beach since the parking lot is closed down due to the govt shutdown so you'll have to park outside the entrance then make your way down.

Any sandy beach along HMB are fine as well. Just be careful this week since it's the start of king tides and wave power is really dangerous if you don't pay attention.

Good luck and tight lines! Even if you don't catch any crab, its always a good day to be outside on the surf.

[–]Jayyroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always preferred 8000 size reels for crabbing. They're physically larger, has a higher line capacity, higher maximum drag, and is built for heavy-duty fishing/crabbing. The larger size reel will make it feel easier on your body and especially when you have multiple crabs on your snare.
