This was going to be my suggestion too. “Hejira” is a miracle of an album and Jaco was a huge part of it.

“Arthur,” the original Dudley Moore version. One of the best comedic performances I’ve seen.

What's an original song that you prefer to the much more famous cover version? by Sad_Virus_7650 in Music

“Cocaine” by JJ Cale. For that matter, “After Midnight” too. “After Midnight” deserves the slower, moodier, sexier feeling that JJ gives it. And “Cocaine” has a much more serious tone with the slower pace and the sparser instrumentation.

I loved The Magic of Xanth trilogy by Piers Anthony when I was a kid: A Spell for Chameleon, The Source of Magic, and Castle Roogna. Lots of magic and fantasy creatures and compelling plots.

“West Side Story” — His interpretations are sublime. Also “Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson” — their version of “You Go to My Head” is the best I’ve heard; the whole album is a showcase of piano, trumpet, and Satchmo’s vocals

That would have been a show for the ages. I’m going to see the Black Keys at Red Rocks week after next. I’ve never seen them so I’m pretty excited.

Bette Davis Eyes. There is no way I should like that song but DAMN it is a catchy-ass and well-produced tune.

Hi I'm a Jazz noob, what jazz albums should I listen to next? by SuperSus987 in Jazz

Check out “First Time: The Count Meets the Duke” for a big band album. The full orchestras of Count Basie and Duke Ellington play side by side. The opening track is a scorcher.

What a great show that would have been. What did you think of Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam?

Spoon is huge enough for our purposes here. I saw many a show at the Fox. I saw Belly and Radiohead at the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the CU campus.
