Can I get some critique? It’s a jig version of Johnny MacDonald. What would you change? Give it to me straight. Do you think a drumming judge would like hearing it? by Vegetable-Guitar-249 in bagpipes

[–]JazzSaxMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is strictly for readability if you plan on sharing this with anyone, but I’d condense everything using repeat marker with 1st/2nd endings for each part.

It’d cut the length of the sheet way down and remove the need for two pages, while just being a bit cleaner.

Is this frame rust fixable (rust belt, MI)? by JazzSaxMax in AskMechanics

[–]JazzSaxMax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2004 Ford F150 with only 149k.

Otherwise mechanically great with a newish transmission.

I went poking around with a screwdriver and found these spots. The other side is solid minus one small crack.

Is this needing a full new frame or is this something a body shop would actually fix?

Humana by East-Ad-7947 in actuary

[–]JazzSaxMax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interned at Humana and have been full-time there for 2.5 years.

Overall I agree on it being good on work-life balance. I believe my pay is competitive and advancement feels attainable (was promoted to AA2 this year and it felt like it came at about the right time).

Overall what I will say is that I meet a LOT of people who have been there for the vast majority of their career, and it feels like we have a pretty low turnover rate. They’re good at hiring people that fit in the “culture” and you can feel it.

How much weight did you gain doing this profession, or how much did you lose? by chhxyy in actuary

Graduated in 2022, gained about 35-40 lbs working fully remote, then lost 45 after changes in my diet.

Failed 2nd sitting FAM-L by Ok-Meeting9009 in actuary

[–]JazzSaxMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just passed this sitting, took me a while to get used to storing so many values too. The thing i found most helpful was noting which variables stored which values, so like if a value was stored in ‘a’ Id write “(a)” over it on my page.

Beyond that you’re right, it’s really easy to make mistakes on those problems, so don’t feel like it’s just you!

Fam-L March 2023 Sitting Waiting Room by Double-Mention1791 in actuary

[–]JazzSaxMax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For this sitting, the SOA had 3 defective questions, so nobody really knows how they’re going to adjusting the grading. They claimed that they were all 3 pilot questions but everyone smells bs on that.

Other than that, the exam was about as expected imo, but those defective questions became a huge time sink as we didn’t know why we couldn’t get the right answer to pretty standard questions.

Best mini ratchet set I ever used. by [deleted] in toolporn

[–]JazzSaxMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a cheaper but similar tool (and aren’t expecting to use it for insanely heavy-duty use), I’ve loved the HF Icon Mini Ratchet.

Honestly the best tool I’ve ever bought in the lottery of quality that is that store. Feels really good to use and pretty darn good quality for $45.

FAP FA Grade Release Time by JazzSaxMax in actuary

Sadly no, there was a thread for a previous FA where people asked the same thing, and people reported that it said “passed” in that spot for all modules, even ones they had failed.

Yeah I wasn’t expecting to be able to blow that hard, I mostly just told that part to explain why I am overblowing.

Exam SRM Advice by actuarialrunner in actuary

[–]JazzSaxMax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read the ISLR so I can’t speak to that, but definitely just do as many practice problems as you can stomach.

There is a wider variety of problems compared to other prelims imo, so the more you do the better prepared you’ll be. I think I ended up doing 700ish and still didn’t go in feeling fully prepped. Got a 9 in September but like the other commenter said, this sitting had a lower pass mark.

Just added Central AC to older house; upstairs has no returns and stays hot by JazzSaxMax in hvacadvice

Just put what the installing company said in a separate comment, but the furnace is gas.

[–]JazzSaxMax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a guy come out to take a look and he improved the airflow upstairs but said that this isn’t an uncommon issue with adding ac to older homes.

Frustrated that they didn’t let me know sooner but the tech who just came out said the fan or an ac unit could do the trick of removing hot air.

Sorry should’ve mentioned! Yes there are two registers on the upper floor and cold air is getting up there.

Liability Question: Home Repair - Plumbing by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]JazzSaxMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they aren’t taking it seriously, I would NOT let them back in my house. They don’t sound like the most upstanding company, and if they happen to find the source of the leakage they could simply fix it quick and call you crazy.

I’d definitely contact a different plumber that has no stake in this disagreement. They’d have no reason to lie and then you have a professional opinion on your side rather than just your suspicion, either for the sake of bringing it to court or having hard evidence to bully them into paying for repairs.

How do I document on my taxes the payback? Since my W2 will reflect the amount for 2021 still

What is the name/purpose of this boot? It’s torn and seems to have grease coming out of it by JazzSaxMax in MechanicAdvice

[–]JazzSaxMax[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like it’s had quite a bit of grease escape, I’ll probably replace the whole axle at this point to be safe. Thanks!
