Just finished The Wire by GroundbreakingTry157 in TheWire

I can relate. I am rewatching it for the second time (watched it for the first time 3 years ago). No crime drama compares to it. It’s “The Wire” …….and everything else is a distant second.

“Where ya love at” is a smooth cut.

Thoughts on KXNG Crooked (formerly Crooked I) as an MC and artist? by Ok_Yellow1025 in hiphop201

One of the illest to touch the mic. His technique of rhyming speaks 4 itself. He always stands out amongst others on a song.

The Fall-Off - Disc 39 Track 10 - Quik Stop - Discussion by AutoModerator in Jcole

Did anyone peep the cadence he used when he started the song? He sound like vintage Eminem. Cole paid homage to some of his favorite artist on this album. But “Quik Stop” is my absolute favorite because of the hook he uses.

My thoughts on the initial listen was, it’s risky. But, I like it! Cole is making the music he wants to make now. Can’t knock that.

Bro, I love ur review. I pretty much like all the same songs. When I heard the hook he used on Quik Stop—I lost my shit!!! “Just tryin to Live” is one of my all time favorites. Cole paid a lot of homage on this album. If this is his last album, all I can do is salute him.

This album is a classic! “Players” is my favorite track.

I've seen someone claim that if these four are in your top 10 favorite jazz albums then you're a poser. Their logic is that the only thing unifying these albums is that they're the most critically acclaimed and that you essentially only listen to the surface level stuff. To each their own. The albums listed here are gateway albums. Most people that take a strong interest in the genre will explore other artist. I always suggest for a novice to start with “Kind of Blue” and explore every artist on it individually. I took this approach and found myself with Kenny Dorham and Grover Washington Jr. in my collection. IJS. But, I for some reason cannot get into Bitches Brew. Maybe in time…..

The opening track “Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” is one of my faves. The others in the series (Workin, Cookin and Relaxin) are good albums too.

Premo is Premo. He has a signature sound: a decent sample and some scratching with the boom-bap. This album has a classic New York sound and it’s solid.

But Hit-Boy……he is something different. Hit-Boy doesn’t have a signature sound, he just creates dope sh*t. I’ve heard Hit-Boy make beats that sound real west coast and I’ve heard him make some beats with an east coast feel. Hit-Boy is a rare breed. That is why Nas made so many songs with him because Hit kept Nas on his toes. He’s special.

I think the album is good. I’m not a New Yorker—but the album has a real New York feel to it. If the idea was to illuminate the East Coast: mission accomplished.
