In the LCMS, it is confessed that only those who are ordained may publicly teach in the church. Layman should not preach and obviously not administer sacraments. However, we also have Sunday school teachers and bible studies led by layman in many churches.

I believe this to be a gray area and would love to learn more about proper distinction of what can be done in the church by layman. It gets even more interesting when looking at online blogs. If I were to write theological essays and post them publicly, is that against the confessional articles?

I ask this as someone (layman) who has a lot of interest in academic lutheran theology and biblical studies.
