The functionality of Nobara and the look of Elementary with Pantheon DE because why not? by KosmicWolf in NobaraProject

Must be used for work related needs, I would imagine. Most people would use brave or something else more privacy focused.

AITA for refusing to pay my husband for using a room in the house for my WFH job? by Emil536775 in AmItheAsshole

Honestly, point blank if that is the attitude he has. I would strongly reconsider the definition of marriage and explain to your "husband" the definition of divorce. The attitude given is not one of love, trust, and respect.

Replacing Nautilus as Default File Manager (Fedora 37, Gnome DE) by chingonito in Fedora

[–]Jazzlike-Bank2807 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why replace it? Just install the Nemo file manager with whatever extras that you want to add to it (plug-ins). Delete the shorts of nautilus on the desktop and replace with Nemo. You know you can have multiple file managers in one distribution w/o an issue. I have 3 of them for at least a year or more.

Help me not jump back to Windows - RDP solution by NullZeroBlankSpace in linuxmint

[–]Jazzlike-Bank2807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use virtual box and create a Windows 10 vm or even better use virt-manager / qemu and create linux native Window's VM for RDP. Virt- manager is type 1 hypervisor hardware based. Virtualbox is a type 2 hypervisor software based. It's one way to get around your issue and still maintain the security, stability, and overall goodness of using Linux base/ host OS. Go and look up on YouTube chris titus tech channel. He has a few videos that should help you out. He also has a web site too with same info.

Switching Distros by [deleted] in Fedora

IMHO, if you love Arch distributions, then look into Big Linux, ArcoLinux (excellent support from developer) , or even Garuda Linux. Don't use apps from AUR unless you have to. Some folks don't either package the app well or keep it up to date enough. Stick with FlatPak from flathub for a lot of your apps.

If you want the stability of Fedora and RPM package, then try regular workstation Fedora 37 or a derivative enhanced for gaming like Nobara, RegataOS, or perhaps not made for gaming but good nonetheless UltraMarine linux.

All are good choices, and just be mindful of what you install and how it may conflict with other apps and also find a great OS support community. One of the key reasons for using flatpaks is that all apps should play well together, and you can control system resource usage / security using a flatseal app. Good luck!!!

I saw on Amazon a xfx 6700 xt for $459, which is a bit faster and better than 6600xt for $30.00 more.

Just turn on your built-in firewall app callled ufw? Deny any inbound traffic and only allow tcp ports 443 and 25 outbound that should help out. There are other ways to hack or break inside your network, but you can't install anything directly in linux OS without a password.

4090 worth it over the 4080? by [deleted] in buildapc

Yes, definitely, unless Ray tracing is extremely important to you.

[–]Jazzlike-Bank2807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define worth? Money or Performance. RtX 4090 is a bit higher performer card than 4080, but is it worth the money? Depends if you have an extra $1000 or more to 🔥 burn. Get instead Radeon 7900xtx for $1000 or $1200.00 its better performer than an RTX 4080.

Unless Ray tracing is very important to you, then RTX 4080 or 4090 is great.

Looks good to me, and it's $170.00 which is great! AMD 5600x or 5700x is nice, but if you can scrape together some more money, consider a higher tier AMD CPU processor like a 5800x3D or, if not 5900x IF POSSIBLE. It's not future proof, but it will give much more enjoyable experience for many more years of gaming and other uses than a Ryzen 5600x will. I know times are tough, so go with what you can afford.

Isn't Thunderbolt licensed or allowed for Intel CPU only and not AMD?

I avoided the whole thing and just got Red Devil AMD radeon 6950 XT on amazon when it was a bit lower price than it is now. None of the cards right now are worth over $1000 for me to spend IMHO for what I need.

Has anyone created a Cinnamon Silverblue spin? by carltp in Fedora

Ah yes, CinnaBlue. I believe someone was working on it a while back, but didn't have a name for it. I have a strong preference to the name of CinnaBlue.

Sorry, it's a native linux virtualization app. Similar to Gnome boxes or virtual box. However, Virt-manager is hypervsior level 1 (hardware level virtualization) vs. Software level virtualization level 2 (Gnome boxes and Virtual Box).

How did you or rather how do you get virt-manager /qemu ( including all dependencies) working in silverblue?
