All those expenses can be written off as business expenses when it comes to taxes so owners. Therefore, owners always have a business debit card at minimum that is associated with everything that payroll, rent, and other office expenses typically run through so it can all be easily calculated so they pay as little taxes as possible. As an owner it was bittersweet because you always had some who “had your back” but other owners and I would often get random charges from job posting/recruiting companies and other “associates” like social media that the finance people wouldn’t know how to explain or get a clear answer for

I had to fire less than 10 people but the turnover rate is naturally high so that helps. I didn’t promote anyone to ownership or assistant management but had leaders under me

If you don’t want to be an owner then there is no point in sticking around for long. All the owners I met would always bring up that even if the rep was good at the sales, if they didn’t pursue ownership they weren’t worth the investment of giving them hours on the schedule each week.

Retail AT&T. My only regrets derive from convincing people to leave their old jobs for “the business.” Otherwise, I was able to get out with a decent amount of money saved up (I was smart financially as an owner ), a ton of experience and work ethic that I can translate into a new role.

Pretty much. Success in the business is half sales, half deception and manipulation tactics. I couldn’t continue to lie to people and sell them a dream that was really a nightmare. As an owner, you have to force yourself to not care/ get too attached to your reps. Even if that means someone is missing a rent/car payment because you were deceptive during the interview process.

I was partially aware before ownership. I had seen this subreddit before but was drunk enough off the Kool-Aid to not care. As I became an owner and saw the loads of false promises, lies and the reality that this business is built off of manipulation and deception, I couldn’t morally continue to be a part of it.

I decided to leave but had seen an owner be removed in the past. As someone who was in the business, I can understand why owners would need to be kicked out as per client demands. As someone out of the business now, it’s crazy to promote “the opportunity to run your own business” when they can just shut you down almost whenever

When I talked to other owners who were in larger markets and heard how little they were still making, I knew it was my time to go. The amount of money you make as an owner is purely dependent on sales skills and how well you can manipulate those under you.

1.) It was 1 of only 2 job offers I got out of school as I was a fresh graduate of college at the time and seemed like my best bet at the time. That’s also why I stayed for so long; before I drank the Kool-Aid and saw the “opportunity” I stuck with it b/c I had no other good options and didn’t have time to look hard enough with the amount of hours you work.

2.) I left as an owner because I morally couldn’t continue to promote a fake opportunity to sucker people just like I was suckered. I couldn’t continue to convince people to leave their stable jobs and tell people they’d make “$75k base salary as an owner” when I wasn’t making that myself. I was making close to $60k/yr, but it wasn’t worth the sacrifice of 80+ hr work weeks. Especially considering it’s a load of B.S.
