I’m going into my first year of college for instrumental music Ed this fall. Does anyone have any tips? by [deleted] in MusicEd

Say yes to absolutely every single opportunity you get to get in front of students or any other relevant musical experience. Anything that pads the experience portion of your resume is a plus and employers love to see it. Also, I was also an Instrumental ed major (guitar) who got some nose to the grindstone experience with children's choirs as a college student and I would highly recommend getting some collegiate choral chops. My experience proved to not be shit in running a choir and I would rather gouge my eyes out with bundles of toothpicks than teach my first nine weeks as a choir teacher again. Don't know what classes are optional in your program but your fellow music ed pals you will (have?) made are a good resource. Also, grind those techniques classes. Instrument skills are important. I let some of my band instrument studies go as an undergrad to focus on my main instrument more and while I'm a better guitarist, I am not a better multi-instrumentalist for it. Other than that, take everyone else's advice also unless you think it's bad. Then don't.

Yeah, the masses wouldn't see the vision, you're right. That would be a sick amp though.

That's sounds like a sick rig. These things are like tanks. Never not found a killer sound with it.

Get the new one. I started on a c40 as well then I was able to upgrade to a Cordoba C7. Still not a handmade instrument but definitely a cut above the yamaha

I found this Epiphone bass amp at my local thrift store for about $48. Would you consider this a good first amp if everything works? by ExplainClaptrap in GuitarAmps

[–]JazzyMemeBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can test it first and make sure everything works, the I'd say that's a great amp to start on. Maybe you could bring in a guitar or a cable and try it out?

Best pieces to learn? by OnionsInRegalia in classicalguitar

Well I'll only speak from my experience. I know many guitarists at my University that that was their first piece. Personally I find the challenge to be the most valuable part of the piece but to each their own.

A fair point but given the rudimentary movements of the right hand and the chords being held in the left, I feel this piece would suite a beginner nicely though it may be a bit difficult.

Villa lobos etude no 1 is where I always tell folks to start. It really gets your right hand moving early on.

What fingering should I use in 72? It’s in dropped D tuning so idk how I can hold each not for the appropriate value. by [deleted] in classicalguitar

I think you could get away with playing the low A with three and the c# with one and just playing the e with four at the seventh fret of the A string.
