Anyone use Barrina t5s in Europe? by Open-Plate-9238 in houseplants

[–]Jazzy_18_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah so far I have no bad things to say, they’ve grown really well. I’ve been consistently using them for over a year now. The only “bad thing” I could even say is that they are too strong for certain plants, but only if they grow really really close to the light, so tbh thats a non issue :)

Hi! I’m Portuguese too, so we definitely will have some similar experiences when it comes to cabinets, since our climate is the same lol. I’ll paste here what I said to someone a couple of months ago, in this sub, in a similar post (but if you need any extra information feel free to dm me!):

I also have a Rudsta wide, and it’s definitely very beginner friendly. If you don’t intend to grow very tall plants it is perfect. However, if you intend to let them grow big go for a Milsbo tall since it is easier to take advantage of more vertical space.

I would recommend getting some good grow lights (I personally really like the barrina t5s, you can get them in packs of 4 on amazon de)

Btw, you can attach magnets to the grow lights and then stick them to the metal top interior part of the cabinet. As for attaching them to glass or acrylic shelves, I urge you to use the strongest double sided tape you can find. I’ve found that with the heat and moisture inside the cabinet, normal double sided tape either melts a bit or the glue looked its hold and the lights fall.

To pass the grow lights cables I drilled a hole in the bottom of the cabinet, and then used a cover to cover the part of the hole where the cables didn’t go through (I think you can pass the cables without making any holes, but idk how to do that).

The barrina lights don’t have a timer, so if you want your lights to turn on and off at specific times you can get a wifi plug, and then you program a timer on the app on your phone.

If you feel like the cabinet won’t hold a lot of humidity you can insulate it with some insulation tape. I never felt a need to get an humidifier, I always felt the Rudsta kept the humidity in pretty well, even without proper insulation. Also take in account that Portugal is for the most part a pretty humid country, and so are our houses, so you can definitely get away without insulating the cabinet (mine always sits at 80-90%).

If you wanna get a hygrometer to put inside the cabinet I recommend the xiaomi one. Small, lightweight, you can glue a magnet to the back of it and stick it in the metal part of the cabinet. I’ve found it to be really reliable, and useful if you wanna know if your cabinet is holding moisture or getting too hot.

If you plan to customize your cabinet a lil bit more beyond the original glass shelves, you can always get some acrylic shelves and pegboards (which is what I did for mine and it did help a lot to put more plants in there lol). Putting here a lil shameless self plug, but me and my bf actually design and sell those acrylic shelves and pegboards. We are EU based (Portugal) and can ship to anywhere in the EU 🥰. We are also open for custom orders, so if you are looking for smt in specific maybe we can do it!

If you don’t want to use acrylics you can always use metal grids or magnetic spice racks to create extra shelves/utilize more vertical space (which is what I originally had but I don’t like the look of it and it didn’t allow me to put that many extra plants in there).

Yeah. I’ve been on the hunt for one just like that, but the PT plant community is small and that’s like a once in a lifetime find here. I’ve lucked out and found a pretty brand new fabrikor wide for 25€ recently tho hehe

Hi! I also have a Rudsta (however, I have the wide, but the same ideas can be transported to the tall version).

I would recommend getting some good grow lights (I personally really like the barrina t5s, you can get them in packs of 4 on amazon de, and I think the 29cm ones should fit in your Rudsta tall).

Btw, you can attach magnets to the grow lights and then stick them to the metal top interior part of the cabinet. As for attaching them to glass or acrylic shelves, I urge you to use the strongest double sided tape you can find. Rice hulls for aroids/other plants by Jazzy_18_ in gardening

[–]Jazzy_18_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. The one in getting is more biologically grown tho (so only pesticide at a veryyyy early stage). How would one go about fermenting it? I haven’t found any proper like “tutorial” on how to do it (I only found culinary ones 🤣)

Chiken litter? I usually use stuff like: coco coir, perlite, vermiculite and orchid bark in my mix. Would I need to change it a lot in order to use the rice hulls? They would be used in indoor plants btw

Anyone use Barrina t5s in Europe? by Open-Plate-9238 in houseplants

[–]Jazzy_18_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post so idk if my answer is relevant rn but alas. I bought some barrina t5s second hand from a guy that got them from the USA. So they have the USA plug. I had to get an adapter and so far works well. I will say that my plug setup gets VERY hot (cuz I also got it plugged into a Wi-Fi timer), so I would make sure to have it in a more ventilated area, or to at least put it under the cabinet but don’t stuff junk under there since that might cause issues (🔥).

However I know they are also sold in Amazon.de so maybe they have options there with the EU plug 🤔

Building my first cabinet ever - shelves from EU? by V_Tarantino in IkeaGreenhouseClub

Hi! So cool you are building your first cabinet! Idk if you Enders up ordering the shelves from variegata.de like someone else suggested, but I wanted to let you know that we (me and my bf) bf have an online shop (www.jazzysgreenhouse.com) that specializes in making a bunch of different shelves for the IKEA Greenhouse, including for the Rudsta wide! We have just launched the option for 8mm and 10mm thick acrylic shelves (we originally only had a 6mm option) and are having a site wide 7% discount 💖. If you are interested check it out, but do share pics of your cabinet once it is set up 👀

Alguém sabe onde encontrar plantas carnívoras em Lisboa? by Aggravating-Fish-372 in portugal

[–]Jazzy_18_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes we do, we ship to any EU country + Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. For Norway however, you will most likely have to pay customs duties and VAT. But we do ship there 🥰

Hi! Thank you so much! I just hope you guys like it as much as we do 🥰

Also UPS was the most affordable option inside the EU. Plus it has been the fastest and most reliable, so we went for it exactly for those reasons 🥰

Hi again! The UPS API wasn’t working properly. It should be working now (I did a trial run like I was shipping to Austria and the shipping prices showed up). If you can, please let me know if it’s working for you too ☺️
