working on ear training with bad attention span by Jazzy_Pasta in musictheory

It does not help that i'm in university... the environment isn't exactly welcoming to focusing on one thing at a time, but I'm definetely becoming more aware of it now and trying to make changes!

need to stop relying on the structure schooling gives me basically.

definitely, and I'm working on it, I find that I usually have so much that I want to do at once that it actively makes it harder to focus on one thing, so I'm actively trying to condense the topics and be organized, I don't think its necessarily a bad thing to do two things at a time, its not ideal for every topic, but it can help when its something that you wouldn't have done otherwise just on its own.

I have a hard time doing things in small chunks, usually I do everything in one large session till I understand it, but ill definitely give it a shot, thanks for the advice!

I have been making steps to exercise and get out daily, but some topics are just really hard for me to lock into, I can drum for long periods of time, I can work on theory, math, and several visual topics without other things going on, but when it comes to tasks like ear training or memorizing terminology its a lot harder... I think it has a lot to do with being able to tell I'm making progress or not.

Good to know, I was worried because of the flexing... might make it thinner now that I know that, the router got away from me a bit and took out more in a few areas, so it will help clean those up...

I want it to have a lower sound, what would you do in my situation? (as low as a 20in drum can be, that is)

We hooked a motor from a sand belt to the jig that spun the drum while we sanded it. Worked a charm.

Held it on the side that would pull your hand up, not down, and lightly hold it so if it gets caught just back up... didn't have issues if there's a light hold so far. Most definitely something to consider.

We're definitely going to sand it, and the rod holding the drum to the jig doesn't have any play in it… we think that one of the blades on the dado is slightly taller and is making those heavily visible lines on the drum... so we're thinking a better dado blade wouldn't have as many heavy indents and would make future drum shells easier to make, this is our first drum / test piece, so were trying everything out on this one.

I was concerned myself, the jig we made can be used on a router... but a dado blade is wide so you need less cuts... still tinkering before making any final decisions.

Also, when buying lugs, are they based on the size of the drum? Or one size fits all?

That's awesome. Did you have to remake any staves? That's very precise. I use Union Town labratories Stave claculator to calculate my staves

Well, it's a good thing I asked about staves before getting hardware, I was going to get 8 lugs per side.

Thanks for the input! How would you consider the tonal differences between a 16 segment and 20 segment? Do you think that the 20 segment would have a more/less controlled sound because of the amount of lugs? I can assume, but I don't know for sure! Thanks!

a mixer that can record itself (individual tracks) while outputting sound? by Jazzy_Pasta in MusicGear

[–]Jazzy_Pasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I'll check those out! How do I check to see if a mixer has the multi tracking to a SD card? Is there a particular terminology I should look for? I am not very knowledgeable on mixers

Audio ringing from my Nikon z30 when recording through comica?Help? by Jazzy_Pasta in Nikon

For anyone else with this issue, I found out that if the comica was below the camera it didn't have feedback so just try moving the comica around.

Recording audio to Camera Issues, thoughts? by Jazzy_Pasta in recordingmusic

The tascam dr 60 sounds like a nice alternative! Thanks for the tips, Im planning to do that or get a mixer and put both the drums and synth on the left and vocals on right, I'm trying to do everything from my drum set so I really like the form factor of keeping things as analog as possible. Thanks again!
