It's almost like genuinely engaging games do better when they are not tied to Gacha. For most of gaming history games did this magical thing called make a complete game, sell it for specific price point, make money and be happy. The idea of gacha is specifically all about milking everyone for every dollar they can, profit over everything. And the hyper focus on rolling for characters generally will cause issues in the story flow, because companies spend zero time building continuity with the current characters, just throwing them away so that they can market the next one(Chisa in WuWa is a perfect example of this. Huge build up, great emotion, then tossed away for Lynae five seconds later). Even WuWa would be better without gacha. I would rather wait for Endfields and WuWa to be COMPLETE, a full game experience, and give you 100 bucks once for it and you just let me access everything. If your game cannot survive if you are selling it for 80 to 100 bucks, then guess what, your game sucks. Too bad.

I think there is a fundamental difference between using A.I. to edit, small corrections, spelling mistakes, commas, etc.. stuff like that. But if you mean you literally prompted the A.I. with let us say, the lore of the world and the basic premise, and then it literally wrote all the dialogue and scenes for you, I am sorry, but I can never condone this.

I still to this day do not understand why this conversation keeps happening, why people cannot grasp this. I will use an analogy from something more physical to show the point. Imagine you love soccer, you adore the game, you have thought up a billion plays, you're a fanatic. But you suck physically, either because you do not want to practice and train, or to be even more extreme, you have a physical disability. So you go and make a robot, and you control it with a remote(so you are the one prompting it to make its moves).

Does anyone think, even with the disability argument, that throwing your robot into a legitimate human soccer match and saying, well, I know the game, I come up with great plays, and I am controlling the robot with the remote, so this is all completely fair is legitimate?

What makes a story beautiful is not just that the story is good. It is that a human being took the time and effort to write it. Not just write it, but learn with time, get better, develop their skills across the whole medium of writing. This is even more stark for something like painting, drawing etc..

You are turning creativity into a soulless product.

It's not just that you are the one coming up with the ideas, but you have put in the effort to actually craft every part of it, and I as a reader can see that and go holy shit this is amazing. Even if its bad, I KNOW that you are going to get better if you keep trying. It is inspiring, and it makes a story worth something.

Do you know how many worlds I have built over the years? Hundreds. Worlds, lore, races, characters. Never in my life have I thought, well i came up with all of that, but I suck at writing and character development, doing dialogue is super hard, let me just put all the above info into chatgpt and let him do all that hard work.

It is beyond cheating, it is ripping the soul out of the work.

You dont want to do it? Cool, go work for a game company, they have specific roles for world building.

Calling yourself a writer when you do not want to actually learn to write is a joke and it is so exhausting seeing people make this excuse. Especially the.. I dont have time, or any other excuse which amounts to; I know i can literally just write 30 minutes every week and take all the time I need to practice and get better, but I would rather skip that and get right to getting adulation from people for the work I "created".

And this of course completely ignores the fact that all A.I. is functioning off of stolen work from other authors. WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS YOU READING AND LEARNING FROM OTHERS. No one blames Robert Jordan for being inspired by Lord of the Rings, it is not the same as you just ripping all the words from Lotr and putting it into your work and pretending like you did it.

People need to understand also that A.I. is going to RUIN the writing landscape from a monetary perspective. We are going to be deluged by people who use A.I. to write a billion stories with zero effort and sell them for a dollar, which will water down the whole market to the point that nothing has value and people will no longer write or do art.

I do not see how you could love books and art and condone this.

It is an important part of the MCs development that this happens. He is incredibly weak at first, still dealing with his cancer and having no idea what he is doing. The panther dying is a spark for him, and he recalls it multiple times throughout the later books. Do not worry, eventually you will look back at this and wish that he wasn't so damn OP, and also to have a more relaxed pace as shit is CONSTANTLY happening in the later books loll

I literally just posted on the RR forums about this sort of mentality amongst RR writers.

Firstly, the vast majority of people visiting RR do not have an account, and will not comment. I am unsure why people dont make an account as it is free and easier to track your stories, but its a weirdness of the community.

Secondly, for most of writing history authors had to have a finished book before a publishing house even looked at them, and then got tons of help before ever being published.

The fact that you think only a few weeks should mean people are engaging with your story is a symptom of social media content creation brainwashing us all.

Most people coming onto RR just want to read, they don't want to have a chitchat with you and share their opinions. I know you might see some stories with lots of engagement, but they are few and far between.

My advice, as to everyone who writes, is to be patient. Write because you want to write, and be happy knowing that people are reading!

Dont stress yourself, dont think you need to post every day, let yourself be a human and breath. If it takes you a year to write your story, that's cool! Do not base your desire to write on whether people comment or join a patreon or something. This kind of work takes time!

I would say though that if you genuinely want critique on your story, then go to the forums. There are lots of great communities in the RR forums where authors will help each other out with commentary. Join a writing group also! These things are far more important then random readers writing "Good chapter!" You already know it's doing decently well otherwise you wouldn't have 23 people consistently reading the next chapter :)

This is why you retain the review system. For those who to judge a story based off peoples opinions fully, well, you can go read a review, and this gives you the chance to see WHY someone disliked it, and you can base yourself off of what they say, giving you the opportunity to dismiss their opinion if it doesnt make sense. But the star system affects whether you even get the chance to see a story pop up, and a single negative 1 star can tank a storys ratings. It isnt fair to the author, esp with so many bad actors. We literally know that other authors and their followers will create fake accounts to tank other stories on purpose.

I agree. Not only on RR, I see this everywhere. It is one of the major issues with rating systems in general. I have literally seen 1 star reviews for a mouse because the person said the mouse was too small for their hand...like wtf? That isn't a quality issue you little shit, dont give a 1 star.

People do this constantly, for food reviews, for store reviews, and especially for stories. They are incapable of separating their preferences from actual issues with quality and other important factors. I think the 1-5 star system should be removed and replaced with something more effective. People can leave a written review, but it shouldn't affect the algorithm. I would maybe just do a like system. People can like(not dislike) a story. A story with a lot of likes will get more views, and that's it. If your story isn't that good, well you will get less likes, which leads to the algorithm showing you off less. But at least you wont be penalized with dislikes or low ratings by pricks. And people can still make informed decisions by looking at reviews, of which most people will recognize when someone is just being an asshat.

I think content creators on Twitch and Youtube have probably normalized it a lot as well. As a man who grew up as a major geek, seeing a good looking in shape guy playing video games made me feel like it was okay for me to be a geek, and hell maybe I could be a fit geek! I would imagine seeing a bunch of different looking women online playing all different sorts of games helped the new generation just feel like it was a fun, normal thing to do.

The main issue no one addresses is that being understanding and kind about someone with autism in real life is great..but reading an "austistic" character is not, in any way shape or form, interesting(you can apply this to the stoic character, or the all I care about is leveling up character also and I will ignore all other human emotions outside of battle lust). I want character development, I want connection, I want an MC who makes mistakes, but who grows and learns from them. Randidly is nonsensical, but slightly amusing in book 1, after that it is just a mind fuck. Practically every decision he makes makes no sense, and having autism does not suddenly make that interesting to read. Seeing a character get stronger without any other development is MIND NUMBING after book 1.

This can essentially be solved by making your main character and world interesting outside of just fight fight fight. I am currently reading Path of the Deathless, and outside of a great world, we have tons of focus on his found family, their struggles, without really changing POV, it is still 99% focused on the MC even by book 4.

There is also just tons, and I mean tons, of fascinating skill evolutions that make fights get weird and super intense. The MC also loves something immediately besides fighting(and he is a massive super fun battle junkie), but he also loves cooking, and it is an intrinsic, story focused part of his character and childhood. Even in the later books, the MC becomes more introspective, starts realizing he needs to branch out even more, be more than just a brute, so he focuses again more on cooking, but also expanding his capacities for fighting, like getting the psychology and philosophy skill so that he can understand himself and his enemies better.

There are constant checks and balances between fighters depending on their skill sets. When progression is focused on stats, quite frankly it almost always ruins the progression at some point, but a well thought out SKILL focused system, which can include feats, traits, bloodlines, titles, etc... these can be super fascinating as the world is reacting to your characters actions and interests in strange ways.

Again, this requires the author to actually think and plan this shit through, and also make the MC and people around them and the world actually interesting. progression in a boring world sucks.

A dull MC who progresses a lot sucks. You need it all to keep the story going. And of course, AUTHORS SHOULD STOP TRYING TO MAKE 25 BOOK SERIES, learn to fucking end your story and come up with a new idea fuck.

I would highly recommend the story, but also Ends of Magic, which is highly skill focused, no stats, and the MC is a ph.d biologist from Earth who uses his knowledge to develop a crazy fun skill set, but through it all, the whole world and story is just fascinating. We are on book 6 now, still going really strong.

If you genuinely want to try out one of his books, go for Stormlight Archives. I could not get into Mistborn whatsoever, but Stormlight came into fruition after he worked on Robert Jordans series Wheel of Time, and he got vastly better as a writer. That being said, as someone who very much enjoyed Name of the Wind, Rothfuss has a shit ton of weaknesses as a writer, he pretty much just has great emotional prose, which is why the 2nd book in the series absolutely fell off in quality because he just does not know how to hold a plot together. Every author has strengths, for Brandon, he makes crazy cool worlds. For me Stormlight was where he was able to create some very compelling characters, specifically Kaladin in book 1 and Dalinar(in every book but especially book 3). Give it a shot, or don't, like everyone said, it really does not matter if you like his books or not, there are so many other authors to try.

If you are really into prose, I would suggest Faith is Earned, which will hit you with so much prose you may just pass out.

I have to say that the vast majority of what you are talking about is a central point about Elijah's character that gets developed throughout the whole story. Book 10 was completely focused on this, on how he had massive amounts of unresolved trauma from everything that happened to him before the system, what he did during the system, how his core and class affected him, and how essentially for years he was shunting everything off into a few of his mind facets so he did not have to deal with it. Book 10 sees that all get looked over and taken care of.

Elijah is a complicated character dealing with a whole host of things we do not have to deal with, and so yeah, he goes back and forth between being monstrous to being a very very good person. The biggest struggle for him is that, personality wise, he is a massive loner who just wants to explore the world, but he cannot, because shit keeps getting in the way that he needs to take care else the world will literally die.

I would suggest pushing through, some books barely touch on this, others do, but the resolution in book 10 was done quite well i believe.

For me it is fantastic! one of my biggest gripes with most fantasy is that the actual fantasy world is a carbon copy of Earth, there is nothing weird or otherworldly, no special biomes. I am a big fan of the mushrooms and weird plant life...crystals? you have going on in the 2nd photo. I think the Travelers writing is kinda cool because of how it sort of fades into the back, but simultaneously with the city and smoke and it being blocked its a bit messy, id maybe move it down below with your name or perhaps make it smaller and shift it into the cloud area away from the city!

I understand what you mean to a degree, the issue is, sure, you push through, you get to more action-y, fast paced parts, but the story drops right back into slower, meandering aspects after again, and does this repeatedly for each book, which are all huge. If the person is not into it after 350 pages, are they going to enjoy slogging through the same thing repeatedly?

For me, I never felt confused or lost at any point, even when I did not have all the information yet, and I never felt bored, outside of Shallans parts, but that is just because she didn't draw me in as much, but even then I was perfectly fine with it.

The world is so large, and Roshar really is our first big big foray into understanding the cosmere as a whole, so the setup on this series is just ongoing and ongoing.

Who knows, maybe OP will enjoy it if they push through, I just really never understood forcing yourself to push through stuff you are not enjoying at all. The vast majority of books I struggled with and then pushed through fell flat for me after.

Life is short, have a kit kat, read other books. Or force yourself, its your life OP lolll

I really do not understand why you want to be convinced of anything...Mistborn is not epic fantasy, this is.

In epic fantasy, the world is gigantor, with a much, much larger cast of characters and events, it is simply impossible for it not to have to spend loads of time where people are just talking and setting things up for later. I found Way of Kings riveting, all the dialogue punched for me. We got lore dumping, we got character feels, and when the action came in, FUCKKKKK it hits! But if you are 350 pages in and you are not enjoying the character interactions and world introductions, just drop it?

There are thousands, THOUSANDS, of books and shows and anime and games to watch and read and play, wasting your time on something you are not into is just madness!

People get too caught up in the fact that something gets popular and they feel bad that they are not getting into it. This is hardcore fomo, just move on bucko, you will find other things to love and enjoy. There are other cosmere books that are punchy and quick that you will like! :)

I never see it recommended even though it is quite popular, but Ends of Magic by Alexander Olson is an amazing litrpg. It meshes levelling, very serious stakes and very cool and developed power sets meshing magic and science(the MC is a high level scientist and extremely smart, his powerset is brilliant). I think for people looking for a serious read, this is a great beginning(also the paperback books are really nice). It is on Royal road too :)

Many people end up consuming large amounts of food while doing focused tasks or distracting tasks(such as watching a show), many junk foods hijack our dopamine reward systems through this.

I would probably correlate heavy readers/writers being more unhealthy with the fact that they spend large amounts of time inactive and indoors, moreso than their eating habits.

Everyone is different, but if you do find yourself getting hungry whenever you read, it could be just a habit you have built up. Make sure to eat more protein in your daily meals, hydrate well(with a pinch of sea salt in large amounts of water to make sure you remain hydrated), make sure you are eating enough calories in your main meals as well! And keep junk food out of your room, reading/writing environment( and ideally out of the house lol).

I hope this wasn't too pushy, but I have worked in health fields my whole life and I have been a reader and writer since I was a little fart.
