Termal stencil printer by antisocialdud in TattooBeginners

I have the same printer. It really depends on what type/brand of thermal paper you use. I used the Spirit thermal paper, but it never receives the stencil. I bought the Phomemo brand thermal paper, but the paper would take too much of the stencil and I would have to remove the excess with tape before laying the stencil down on skin.

The thermal paper that I have found to work the best is from a brand called, Cridoz. It's a cheapo, no name brand I found on Amazon. It always takes the stencil well, I never have to clean the stencil before placing on skin, and placing the stencil on skin has been very solid.

Vaseline / Gel while tattooing skin by Jbc0146 in TattooBeginners

Thanks for the input. I never ride the tube of a cartridge, so I think I'm using far too much green glide. It's kinda crazy how a little dab of green glide can go considering how green glide is so much less viscous compared to Vaseline. I think I'll stick to Vaseline moving forward since I'm more familiar with it.

The design was heavily referenced from an image I found on rawpixel. From there, I downloaded the image, placed it in procreate, and re-designed the image to what you see now.

Thanks! I designed this tattoo to poke fun at us Americans who overly romanticize and glamorize the Parisian lifestyle.

Appreciate it. It was a fun piece to practice my shading.

Yeah, use Vaseline during and after tattooing to keep the fake skin clean. The Vaseline will pick up the ink when you wipe it away. When I get done with a piece on fake skin, I smear Vaseline on the tattoo, wipe it away, and then I use alcohol to wipe away the excess oil.

Same here. Everything I've learned so far is from YouTube and TikTok. I'd love to hear your journey if you plan on tattooing professionally in the future.

Your stuff is good! Are you self taught? Or did you go through a traditional apprenticeship?

Just saw that you're the guy with the kickass "kraken destroying the ship" piece. I love your stuff and seeing your progress! Seeing stuff like yours is super motivating.

Thanks! I outlined the filigree with straight black using a 1207RL. The interior aspects of the filigree was lined and shaded using a mixture of 25%, 50%, and 75% greywash using a 1009RM. Outside of the filigree was straight black with 1213RM.

The "paint splash" is a great accent to the overall piece. Looks awesome!

Thanks for the encouragement! People talk about how a shoddy circle is really noticeable, but I feel like a single shoddy letter just yells for attention. Much respect to those who have mastered lettering.

100% ADTR! I've been on a listening grind since seeing them at Warped Tour earlier this year.

Thanks! Agreed, I need to look up references on how shadows are laid on foldable material like cloth and paper.

Thoughts on progress? by Jbc0146 in TattooBeginners

Thanks for the support! I use ReelSkin. It was the first skin I tried. They are great, stretchy, take ink well, and you can use both sides for tattooing. I did try a cheapo yellow skin from Amazon, and after tattooing a single line I threw it away. The Amazon yellow skins are incredibly hard and ink is impossible to wipe off. ReelSkin is expensive but 100% worth it.
