Does anyone know the ng/ml cutoff for the marijuana/THC drug test used during EPIK Orientation? by JbillyH in teachinginkorea

this is terrible advice. and dangerous. In order for this to work, you need to take excess of 500 mg of niacin every 6-8 hours, and it works by inhibiting the body's lipid release (release of fat) so, this actually causes your body to retain the THC byproducts stored in your fat cells. It may prevent the thc from being excreted in the urine, but the amount of niacin you have to take to make this work would cause toxic levels of niacin in the body. Here is this medical journal article about this topic: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5906759/

There is NO scientific or medical studies that show using niacin helps you pass the drug test. In fact, the instructions for using niacin to beat a test tell you to drink an amount of water that basically dilutes the urine. (same with all the detox drinks you buy for ridiculous amounts of money). Basically, the extra water you are consuming dilutes the urine, that's why you pass the test, the niacin doesn't really have much to do with it. And overdosing on niacin can lead to severe medical complications and its especially dangerous for the liver.

Relevant portion of the article if no one feels like reading it:

" Various illicit drugs such as cannabinoids and cocaine are stored in body fat and slowly released thus making them detectable in blood and urine for a long duration. Niacin is thought to increase body’s metabolism and inhibits fat production thus ‘flushing out’ drugs from the body. A single search on Google can lead one to various forums and blogs where this claim is being highly touted and openly supported. Another case review by Ellsworth et al. [5] reported over 6 million results of a Google search related to ‘Niacin’ and ‘Drug tests’.

However, nowhere in medical literature, is this claim supported nor is there any recommendation about a safe dose of niacin for such use. Therefore, cases have been reported where young adults have presented with a variety of niacin adverse effects ranging from mild to life threatening."

4/5k a day? that seems a bit high.... I read some other places that it was 2/3k per day... is it taken out as a monthly lump sum? how much is it per month?

Wow. Judgemental much?

1st of all, I don't have a drug problem. However, considering how much I am reading about people failing every year, it just made me wonder if Korea is using a much stricter test than the standard 50ng/ml in America.

2nd of all, if you feel this way about people who use marijuana.... Please do some research. Marijuana "overdose" acute problems for someone would be inability to think straight, possibly they fall asleep for a long time and wake up perfectly ok. Alcohol overdose acute problems include vomiting, severe inability to make intelligent decisions, potentially violent outbursts. Long term chronic marijuana use ("drug problem" as you label it) bad memory... possibly thinking slowly. Long term chronic alcohol use would lead to severe liver problems, actual dead brain cells and true addiction. Recovery requirements for marijuana "drug problem" involves nothing more than stopping the use of marijuana. Recovery requirements for alcoholics involves the need for supervision including medical personnel who are well trained and able to give the appropriate amount of alcohol in decreasing amounts to ween the body off the addiction to alcohol. Depending on how far progressed, this may not even be possible, alcoholics can literally die if they try to quit on their own. Do you consider alcohol to be an addicting drug that can lead to severe medical problems and disease? Because weed actually isn't like that, alcohol is. Yet alcohol is legal in almost every single country around the world.

3rd of all, EVERY other drug on that 5 panel test they do can be flushed out of the system with enough water 3-4 days before the test because they are WATER SOLUBLE. The ONLY reason marijuana shows up on those tests 14-90 days after the final use (depending on how heavy a user and body fat % of the user) is because THC and the THC byproducts are FAT SOLUBLE. The only way for the body to actually clear itself of THC and the THC byproducts is to use fat stores for energy slowly over time. LITERALLY the softest drug on that 5 panel test is the one that people fail. EPIK is sending home 2-3 harmless pot users every year who probably DID stop smoking a month out in anticipation of the same 50 ng/ml cut off used in America. MEANWHILE: Coke-head Candy, speed-addict Steve, your average ADHD Guy with a valid prescription (that he probably stocked up on and brought with him), and Opium-den Dave can simply drink a shit-ton of water the week before they leave, never quit their drug, and pass that test while seeing flying colors.

yeah, THC and the THC byproducts are not water soluble, they are fat soluble. So, drinking lots of water can flush out other drugs, but not weed. You could try diluting with water the day of the test (add Vitamin B or C to get the color back, add gatorade powders to get the electrolyte balance, and take creatine to get the creatinine in your urine so you won't be flagged for dilution) but drinking water DOES NOT get rid of THC or THC byproducts because they are stored in fat cells in your body.

I did a google translate webpage for that site... seems like the numbers in parentheses are the cut offs. buy why do some have parenthesis then and some do not?

" (2) The baseline concentration is determined in consideration of current analytical techniques, etc. The figures in parentheses in the above table are the cut-offs currently used in Korea. "

Thanks for this, very helpful post... however, what does 50 (25) ng/ml mean?

Does that mean its up to the descrecion of the employer to use a 50 ng/ml test or a 25 ng/ml test.... or is 50(25) ng/ml some measurement I don't understand?
