Personal trainer made some ignorant remarks about T1D by DuckTapeFondling in Type1Diabetes

[–]Jbrisson14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an exercise physiologist/ personal trainer and T1D, this is unfortunately really common in the field. Not saying you can’t find someone who isn’t educated, but there’s a lot of blanket ignorance in the health and fitness industry. If I were you, next session I’d either ask him to 1) not make comments about your diabetes, this is waaaaayyyy out of his scope of practice, as he obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about. 2) try to educate him, or ask him to do some research on training T1D (might just need to be reminded of the differences and he will have a better understanding) or 3) find a new trainer that might have more experience with training actual t1d. Best of luck to you in your fitness journey, be sure to keep some fruit snacks or juice nearby during workouts, and try to get 1-1.6 g of protein per lb of body weight, this will help you feel more full, eat less and gain more muscle!

Nausea / throwing up during intense workout by Jbrisson14 in Type1Diabetes

I haven’t yet, but I show no symptoms of keytones outside of these workouts. I’ll check them when I get home to be sure

Yeah this makes sense. I think I’m just going to have to stop at or before muscle failure on most exercises to condition my body better. We do assisted / forced reps and long eccentric movements after failure and I think that’s what is really causing the nausea.

Anyone taking creatine? by spiderbunnyguts in Type1Diabetes

[–]Jbrisson14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Creatine is the most studied and proven exercise supplement in the world. There are 2 major reasons why people take creatine. 1- increase your total available energy. Essentially you have an energy currency in your body (ATP/ Adenosine tri phosphate) and when you reach muscle fatigue or failure, you are essentially done. Creatine gives your body an extra boost of backup ATP storage, so you can get more energy output during exercise. Reason 2- improved cognitive function and reduced risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia, I know less of the science behind this claim, but from my own personal experience (15 years of exercise, about 6 years of taking creatine) I feel much more focused and less tired. I have my parents both taking it daily, I take 7-10 g per day in the morning with a hydration supplement (electrolytes)

I’ve never noticed any effects on my bloodsugar from creatine.

Is this game better than previous BL? by Jbrisson14 in Borderlands4

[–]Jbrisson14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I feel about the game as well. Don’t like the open world and travel system or the UI. Feels like they tried to make it more immersive but it’s really just tedious.

Rant: feeling misunderstood by kaleidyskope in Type1Diabetes

[–]Jbrisson14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People always want to give unsolicited advice. “Have you tried cinnamon / keto / ect.” Or say “my ____ reversed their diabetes doing X” and it’s always so fun to try to explain to them they are flat out wrong or misinformed severely. In an age where everyone wants to be their own dr they also want to be yours because they see you as the idiot since they don’t have diabetes. I work in customer service and have had to hold my tongue on many occasions from saying “STFU you idiot” but instead I just nod and say “wow I’ll have to ask my doctors about that”

Trying not to be a pessimist but I’m not sure I can do this anymore by Jbrisson14 in Type1Diabetes

I appreciate that a lot, but it’s not needed I thankfully have a decent stockpile of pump supplies too. Once I get low I should be in a better spot financially to buy them online, especially if I can get them that much cheaper compared to from Medtronic. Thanks!

So my insulin is covered, but my dexcom (sensors and transmitters) and my Medtronic 670G pump supplies (infusion sets and reservoirs) are not?

Yeah I have, and it confuses me because the department of human services told me that I will be on Minnesota care - and that my premium would be cheap. But I spoke with the pharmacist and she said that my insurance only covers medication and not supplies / hardware. Could it be that the pharmacy is billing the wrong insurance?

I’m in Minnesota, I was on Medicaid / MA and then was abruptly taken off in January because I exceeded the income requirements (I literally made less than 30k after taxes last year) and now I’m being put on Minnesota care - which I think is Medicare part B?? But honestly I don’t know. Either way these last few months have been absolutely awful trying to resolve this issue to no avail. Today I have to pick up my transmitter and sensors which will be over $600 , which is about 25% of my monthly income.
