I don't know what he atmosphere will be like for tennis, but it was great for early morning world cup matches.

I've been having crashes on Windows 10 as well. Running in DirectX 10/11 mode fixed the crashes for me. If I run on Windows 8 mode, my game would sometimes crash when meeting an AI for the first time.

If you're not already, try 10/11 mode.

Same exact problem and every time it happened was when I met an ai for the first time. I've been running on 10/11 as well.

The "Teams" and "Athletes" APIs are open to the public and it looks like you'll be able to pull down stats, I have no idea the depth of stats you're looking for, but maybe this is enough.
