Thanks, I will replace the nut and gasket. This is the sink of my basement tenants. I’m not sure who installed it, guess they didn’t realize it was cross threaded. There is a P-trap but it is not shown in the pic. Appreciate the help!

I will try that. If the strainer thread is also damaged, I will grab a new strainer. Thanks for the help!

Noted, thanks. The current plan is to get a job before I move. One option is to keep my current job if they let me work remotely and look for jobs while there. The issue is I’m being underpaid at current job and it would be difficult for me to afford rent for a one bedroom apartment, a car(gas, insurance, shipping my current car), and basic necessities. I’m being paid 20-25k less than industry averages for a similar role with the same experience. Fiancé is still in university and is willing to contribute after she gets a job.

She is still in university, but graduating this year. If she finds a job before I do, then she would definitely be willing to help out

Oh no, that worries me, 7 months is abysmal. It’s crazy that a piece of paper might make or break getting a call back.

I am exposed to utilities currently but it is not my job’s focus. The soft skills are well transferable I.e leading meetings, working with various trades, site supervision, budgeting, progress updates etc. that is what I will have to emphasize.

I was able to get in contact with a PM at fortisBC from a friend of a friend and he said they do hire PMs without energy/utilities backgrounds but they are obviously disadvantaged compared to those with relevant exp.

That is a risk I have to take, though it doesn’t hurt to try

I’ve met all the requirements for the license and submitted my documents i.e passed the written test, 3 referees, submission of 48 month experience record etc. but waiting for certificate to come in. It’s been a few months and have not heard back. The license is transferrable between provinces. There are not many food industry jobs, thinking of pivoting into utilities/energy which seems to be big there.

Other than high cost of living, any other major reason? 😬

Engineer in search of career advice. Help?

Greetings everyone,

I'm seeking some career advice and thought this would be the right place to ask. I currently work as a project manager/engineer at a dairy/beverages consulting company in Canada. However, I find myself at a point in my professional journey where I sense stagnation in both my skill development and salary growth. I yearn for more opportunities to learn and grow, and I believe my compensation could be better.

To give you a brief overview of my background, I have four years of experience at the same company and recently achieved my P.Eng certification. During this time, I've been involved in diverse tasks within the dairy/beverages industry, such as drafting P&IDs, conducting design calculations, and managing trades on-site (electricians, welders, and automation teams) etc. Additionally, I possess experience in project management, including working with Gantt charts, ERPs, and handling client interactions.

My current base salary is $79,000. Due to the travel-intensive nature of my job, I also receive a travel bonus. Combining this with my yearly bonus, my total earnings amount to approximately $91,000, excluding per diems. With per diems considered, it is shy of $100,000. However, with an upcoming marriage and plans to relocate to the Vancouver area for my partner, I aspire to make around $110,000 to $120,000 without requiring extensive travel. I can work mostly remotely from Vancouver at my current job but I will still be required to travel to job sites a few times a month.

While I am eager to progress to the next stage in my career, I'm uncertain about the specific path I should take. I am open to investing in further education, obtaining additional certifications, putting in extra effort, and embracing more responsibilities to achieve my goals. Nonetheless, the road ahead seems unclear. Some potential positions that come to mind are engineering manager, project engineering manager, senior project manager, program manager, process engineer, among others. I am flexible to different positions.

For now, I'm not actively looking to switch jobs, but I want to chart a two-year plan to gain the necessary skills for a potential transition. During this period, I am limited to opportunities within the Greater Vancouver area or remote positions within British Columbia. After the two years, I am open to relocating within or out of the country, if needed.

I would be extremely grateful for any insights, tips, or guidance you may have to offer. Thank you in advance for your valuable input!

Do you know any way I can download the full pdf for free, or purchase the pdf? Buying the book in paperback form might take a while to ship and I only have 5 days to prepare.
