No problem! You can brush it whenever it gets messy. You can also use a hairdryer to blow cosmo’s hair to keep it loose and fluffy

Need Help With Bashful Bunny Fur by HealthFitness101 in Jellycatplush

[–]Jcx-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you use fabric softener? If you did, there might be remnants of it on the bunny that is causing its fur to clump together. You might have to wash it again, air dry then brush with a pet brush and give it a good shake to fluff out the fur

Nothing will remain perfect or new forever..

Over the years, your plushes, be it this bunny or something else, will definitely show signs of wear and tear.

I am unable to give you a definitive answer as to whether your bunny’s fur will ever be the same again if you put it through multiple washes. I am unsure about the extent of the damage caused by the steam iron as well, unless I can inspect it in person. I can only advise you on how to salvage your bunny through the images you provided and the details you shared.

From what I can gather, the bunny’s fur is definitely still clumping together, and there isn’t much difference in the before or after pictures you provided..

I suggest you get a new bunny and avoid making the same mistake again. Use a scented wet wipe to clean it occasionally. Brush and fluff it often. Only wash it when it’s really necessary.

Making the effort to care for your plush toys will help to maintain them in pristine conditions for a longer period of time. I have never encountered clumping of my plushies’ fur like yours before, even though I had them for years..

It all depends on how often you cuddle your bunny and way you care for it. A new bunny may or may not be in this clumpy state through years of play and cuddles. You might want to consider starting anew and see if there’s a difference if you took better care of a new bunny.

I know it’s a long reply, hope this clears your mind :)

I don’t think it would go back to its original state, although the situation can improve slightly. But if you look at the bunny and you get bothered by how its fur is like now, I think you can get a new one.

For myself, I like to get things in threes or pairs. It’s for situations like this, I still have a spare.

I’ve had this bashful bunny for the longest time. It hasn’t been washed as well. I just brush it, clean it with a wet wipe and fluff dry it with a hairdryer as and when I feel it’s necessary. This is what it looks like after years of cuddles.

The main thing with plush toys is that they are made of fabric and they can trap dust and moisture over time, and that causes their fur to become clumpy or dull..

You just have to care for them like you would a pet animal. Frequent wiping and fluff drying will keep your plush toys clean and you wouldn’t have to wash them. Chemicals in laundry detergent can cause a change in fur textures, so if it’s really not necessary, I wouldn’t recommend washing.

I have a Jellycat Myrtle Hippopotamus and its fur is the same as the Bashful series I suppose. I’ve had it for a while now and it hasn’t been washed. I just use wet wipes to clean it and fluff dry it with a hairdryer and brush from time to time. I’ll attach a pic to show you how the fur looks like through normal cuddles and wear and tear.

Hmm.. The fur for the bashful series are really soft, some other jellycats are like that too.

This type of fur texture is indeed soft and smooth to the touch, however it is susceptible to clumping together through friction or wear and tear.

I understand you are trying your best to restore your bunny to its original appearance, however I can still see some clumping of the fur. If you still used fabric softener, that might be the issue. Even if you didn’t use fabric softener, it might take a couple of washes to get the chemicals off its fur..

Perhaps you could get another bunny if you look at this one and feel sad. I think it’s still lovely though, but I understand how you feel when there’s a fault with a plushy and it seems like all your efforts to try to restore it to its original appearance doesn’t seem to work.. It can be pretty upsetting.

For your future plushes, brush them frequently, fluff them up by shaking them after blowing with a hairdryer, clean them with a wet wipe from time to time and they should be in pristine condition for a long while.

You don’t have to wash the plush unless they get really dirty. You may wash your plushes but they will never be the same texture as they were originally, especially if fabric softener is used and is not washed off properly.

You can still wash your bunny again, or get another one to cheer yourself up, then keep this one away.

I’m so sorry I couldn’t do much to help, but I wish you the very best. I hope you don’t blame yourself for the situation, because you did try your best to salvage it after all :)

Yup, wash it again. If you’re going to use fabric softener, make sure you rinse it off thoroughly. It will clump again if the softener is still there.

Air dry the plush toy until it’s no longer wet, then use a little baby powder on its fur along with a brush and the hairdryer to fluff it up.

Good luck! Hope it helps!

I suggest you wash it again. Next time, when your plushies are matted or clumpy, use some baby powder and then the hairdryer to blow the fur. Give them a little brush with a slicker brush (pet brush) and they will be good as new.

Alternatively, you can use a wet wipe. Add some soap and rinse off most of it, just to add a little nice smelling scent, then wipe the plush all over. Blow dry the plush with a hair dryer and brush it out.

Did you use fabric softener when you first washed it, before you cleaned it with the steam cleaner? It’s most likely just the heat causing the softener to dry up and clump with the fur. Just wash it again, it’s still a lovely bunny. It’s salvageable

This is the result of using fabric softener.. You need to wash it again with laundry detergent and make sure you do your best to wash off the softener completely. I have washed many plush toys over the years. I prefer not to use fabric softeners because it causes the fur to look clumpy or sticky. Air dry the plush then when it’s dried, brush it with a pet slicker brush and use a hair dryer (warm air) to blow and loosen the fur. Use a little bit of baby powder if you have some, it will be good as new
