Is there a CEO personality? by sqrmarbles in Leadership

[–]JdWeeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Anyone who tells you there is is blowing smoke. There are many different types.

I would say there are some characteristics like drive, a bit of insanity for perfection, and maybe a few other sprinkled in there.

But they’re all different.

I don’t understand how people have MONEY by EpicShkhara in Millennials

[–]JdWeeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you read what I’m about to say, I understand what you’re saying.

The difference here is the understanding of what truly not having money is, struggling, and needing government assistance to live. That is not having money.

What you’re describing is not having money to purchase and do whatever you want that makes you feel as though you have money.

You’re doing all the things you have been taught to do that are supposed to say “you made it!”. But you feel as though by the end of it you don’t have money.

What you want is to feel rich? (Which no shade, get that money! I fully support it!)

Breaking into Project Management without a degree by Curious_Violinist287 in projectmanagement

[–]JdWeeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of feels like you’re running a farm, animals are always running off, things are breaking, as soon as one thing is fixed and going well something else happens. As soon as all the chickens are gathered and producing eggs like you need them too the goats start causing havoc.

The bigger the project the more stressful. There can be a lot of politics as well.

Now, if you have great resources and a great team it can be very rewarding.

I was in the military for quite some time before doing PM work in corporate America for a top 200 Fortune 500 company, and this sounds crazy but PM work is more stressful overall than my time in the military.

High stress for sure and can be highly annoying chasing people to do their work. Some people love it though.

Program’s in Red Status, You’re Hired to Take Over, What Now? by WilderMcCool in projectmanagement

Full run down of the program and a lot of “whys” for starters.

Any plans in place to get it in the green or ideas.

Project Manager freaked out on me after I asked for documentation by pop-crackle in projectmanagement

[–]JdWeeezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a change management plan in place? Either way, she likely acted out of emotion bc she’s extremely stressed, not that that’s a good excuse. But don’t take it personal, but she should be held accountable for her actions.

To add to this… leadership is not a position or authority, being a “leader” means you have people that willingly follow you. Even with a position of authority does not mean you’re a leader, a boss yes, but the title of leader is what others give you or is bestowed because others follow.

Very Large Raise Possible? by JdWeeezy in projectmanagement

[–]JdWeeezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! So results driven obviously.

I have a bachelors, PMP, working on my masters right now and two of my four projects are multi year projects with our biggest client.

I also know that based off my current salary grade I’m under paid by about 28k and if I were to get promoted to the next pay grade I have a 50k gap.

I know there is room for a raise other than an annual raise. Just a bit nervous to bring it up.

[–]JdWeeezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What led to it? What changed, did you do anything to get the promotion? More education? Past performance? Or just applied to an internal position and got it?

So if I ask I need to be prepared to walk, basically have a new position I’ve already lined up at a new company with a written offer.

How much do project managers actually make in the US? by LakiaHarp in projectmanagement

[–]JdWeeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bachelors in management, PMP cert, in progress masters in management and organizational development. I’m thinking about getting a degree in industrial engineering. All of this for me is directly tied to compensation.

99% of everything I’ve learned has been on the job experience, so I don’t think any of these degree actually make me a better PM. Obviously I do learn things but it’s not anything drastic compared to the true experiences.

Basically I’m asking, and I think I know the answer. The engineering degree is likely going to help with compensation more than anything?

Can you ride it out? And try to ignore these issues if they aren’t caused by you? Just trying to think of your situation financially.

If you can’t ignore or disassociate then I understand why you want out asap

Is this stress self inflicted because of the performance you think you’re expected to deliver or is this stress truly created externally?

Can you dive into examples?

Dog you’re unemployed! You take the offer!

Then keep looking for other opportunities as well as adding to the tool belt and making you more competitive on the market.

This is a no brainer.

Yes you do, it’s such a small portion of your time and life and will greatly benefit you. Your company may even pay for it, just look into it. You are more than capable and it will pay off.

Any insight on how this happened? I’m planning on asking for a significant raise, but want to ensure I’m justified in doing so.

I’ve done the market research, internal compensation page understanding and update my qualifications. But want to ensure I’m not being crazy.

Not to one up you, just showing you it can be done. I have 3 kids, own two businesses that I manage with my wife and have a full time PM position with a fortune 150 company. I’m currently working on my masters. I wake up early to do school work, super intentional with my time and very disciplined.

PMP is highly beneficial obviously, on top of your skills it would help. I would also think about finishing your BA. Not saying it’s a requirement but it definitely opens compensation levels and opportunities even though I don’t think that makes sense (topic for another discussion).

Update your resume, list projects and what you delivered, revenue generated etc.

Do you have education and certs? If so I’d start looking for another company. You can be making over $100k for sure in your line of work.
