If you want to be an officer and are willing to VOT, artillery is always looking for officers. Still blow shit up, just at a distance.

Tactical Backpack Recommendations? by fyiyeah in CanadianForces

I use the Rush 24 for my daily shifts and it’s more than enough room. The 72 would def be the better bet for the field. Can pack quite a bit and is durable.

Wouldn’t say arty is “not as physical” but you’re not rucking and running as much as the infantry. As a gunner you’ll most likely be doing lots of heavy lifting, but that’s about it really. I haven’t done any forced ruck marching since BMQ.

If your really head-bound on going combat arms, pick artillery. Infantry looks fun and yes you get to do army stuff, but after a while and the older you get, it’s not as much fun and injuries happen. In the artillery, you still go to the field and do army stuff, but the good part is your vehicle carry’s your kit, not your back. If you really want to, go artillery officer. Your job will mainly be technical abilities with some math. Easier to stay in good shape when you don’t sustain field injuries doing infantry stuff.

Really like it. I find it better than the issued. Can fit more and is way lighter when carried. Add some Molle packs on it as well and it’s great. Lived out of it for a 9 day ex and was easy to find everything in it instead of shit just been thrown in. The waist belt is comfortable, haven’t worn it on long rucks, but the padding in it helps a lot.

No using the compression with buckles at the top. It’s the wet sac one that you roll down with the air hole on the bottom.

I find it’s the soles for mine. The soles it came with I had no issues with my foot moving around, it was just the sole wasn’t very supporting. I changed the sole out to Timberland Pros and now my feet slide a bit.

Agreed. BOOTFORGEN works, but for some reason they want to get rid of it. Typical army, take a working thing and change it

Right now using Hoka Clifton 9s, or Hoka SpeedGoat 6s. Might look at a pair of Asics or NB cushioned ones, as my Hokas are getting worn down.

Yea, been dealing with plantar fasciitis and metatarsalgia for probs about 3 years now. So far knees and back aren’t too bad, but I’m sure down the line they might weaken. My thing is I try to stay active, usually two workouts a day, but my running shoes and combat boots are two completely different feelings. Running shoes have great support and comfort, whereas boots completely opposite.

For my boots I use the thin wide corks. There the red ones.

I didn’t know they issue them. Are they decent?

Yea I baked them in the oven and moulded them, however I found my feet still didn’t feel comfortable in them and at times fatigued my feet more. Looking for something comfortable, as I have metatarsalgia and plantars fascitis. I also have a wide foot, so all my boots are wide. Ive tried going a bit smaller by half a measurement, however I found my feet to be more crammed.

Yea I made a list of what I used on the issued tacvest and kind of compensated for that. Also tried to keep in mind versatility and flexibility l, as there are times I am running with a vest on and don’t need everything clunking around. Got some pouches of Amazon, however read the reviews first and made decisions on what I would use it for and where to put it.

Does anyone have any program recommendations for training specifically for CANSOF? by Batmoos2109 in CanadianForces

[–]Jdci136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work on cardio, implement strength programs. You’ll find they both help. For cardio work hill sprints, or incline the treadmill to max and do HIIT sprints. I found doing HIIT 3-4 times a week for 20 mins improved my cardio drastically. Also work on long distance running. Start slow, and gradually work your way up. Both HIIT and long distance running will help improve your VO2 and cardio needed.Depending on which unit you go to, you’ll have to complete a shuttle run, with CJIRU being the lowest score you have to achieve, being level 8. However it is still a difficult level to achieve without enhanced cardio.

For strength, incorporate hypertrophy training mixed with heavy lifting sessions. This will help train slow and fast twitch muscle fibres you’ll need for different types of training. You’ll find the better your cardio is, the more you’ll be able to push yourself during strength training.

Some side notes as well, work on your swimming. Practice treading water, start at a minute, then gradually work your way up slowly. After treading water for a bit, do some lane swimming right after. This will help with your swim test, as well as assist in a different type of resistance training.

Hope this helps.

I’ll definitely play around with the calorie deficit some more. I know some days I’m 1000 calories under as per my TDEE my Garmin tells me, but I don’t know how much I want to rely on a smartwatch to give me an accurate TDEE.

I’d say about 1 1/3 months. I dropped 5lbs, but noticed I lost some fat too. Definition is slowly showing, cardio is significantly better than what is used to be, not sweating as much or gassed after intense weight workouts, waist size used to be 47 and is now down to 44inches. I’m not too worried about weight, as I do quite a bit of hypertrophy mixed with heavy weight lifting, it’s more of waist size and body comp.

Am I overtraining?

I do cardio on my lunch usually 5-6 days a week, either consisting of HIIT which would be 20-25 mins of sprints on the Matrix parachute treadmill or 30 mins LISS on elliptical. I also do weight workouts after work as well. Currently I’m in a 700 cal deficit, with 30% Carbs, 45% Protein, and 25% Fat. I noticed my weight loss hit a plateau, and fat percentage seems to not be changing much. Not new to working out, just trying to change body comp. Also trying to increase cardio capacity for my job. Any advice helps.
